Surrey, led by Rory Burns, were put into bat by Durham and went on to post a mammoth 820/9 declared in their first innings. Opener Dom Sibley starred with a monumental 305 off 475 balls, while Sam Curran (108), Dan Lawrence (178), and Will Jacks (119) also smashed centuries to propel Surrey to that enormous total.
In response, Durham were bowled out for 362 in their first innings, forced to follow on, and then ended their second innings at 262 without loss.

The match eventually ended in a draw, with a staggering 1,444 runs scored in total.
The run-fest featured one triple century and six individual hundreds across both teams.
With that in mind, the big question is: Will India or England look at those numbers and opt to bat first if they win the toss? Could the fifth Test turn into another run fest?

'Won't require surgery...': Real reason behind Jasprit Bumrah's absence from 5th Test revealed in new report

Jasprit Bumrah missed the fifth Test against England not because of workload management but for some other reason. A new report has revealed the real reason why Bumrah was released from the squad. read more Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah didn't play in the fifth and final Test match against England at The Oval, and now a new report has revealed the real reason. While many thought it was just workload management as Bumrah had previously confirmed he would play just three matches in the series, it has now come out that he had a small knee injury. Bumrah only played three out of the five Tests in the series. Before the series began, it was already planned that he would play only three games. Since there were long gaps between the matches, fans hoped he might be able to play one more. But the BCCI released him from the squad for the final Test. 'Mr Jasprit Bumrah has been released from India's squad for the fifth Test,' the BCCI said in a press release. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Bumrah is suffering from knee injury? According to a report in the Times of India, a BCCI official said that Bumrah is suffering from a knee injury, which is why he has been released from the squad. The source revealed that the injury is not too serious and Bumrah won't require surgery. 'Unfortunately, Bumrah is suffering from a knee injury. The good thing is that it's not a major one and won't require surgery. The BCCI medical team is currently awaiting his scan reports,' the BCCI source was quoted as saying by TOI. With the Asia Cup just a month away and the T20 World Cup scheduled early next year in India, the board wants to make sure Bumrah is fit and available for key white-ball events. It appears the decision to rest him from the Oval Test was taken to prevent the injury from getting worse, which could threaten his participation in the upcoming tournaments. 'There is an Asia Cup around the corner, the T20 World Cup is also there. He would want to play those events. Considering his body, he can't play every game. He needs to be managed with extra care. Playing him at The Oval would have been a huge risk. Going forward, there needs to be a clear plan on how to manage Bumrah's Test career,' a BCCI source told PTI.

Jasprit Bumrah "Is Suffering...": Not Workload, Report Claims Real Reason Behind Star's England Departure

Jasprit Bumrah played only three Tests in the five-match series against England before the pace great was released from the squad during the final Test at The Oval. Though it was pre-decided that Bumrah is going to play only three Tests, the eight-day gaps between the 1st-2nd Tests and 3rd-4th Tests raised hopes that he might be able to push his body to play an extra Test as there was enough opportunity to rest. But Bumrah followed the plan and played only three games. 'Mr Jasprit Bumrah has been released from India's squad for the fifth Test of the series against England. The fifth and final Test of the series is underway at Kennington Oval, London,' the BCCI said in a press release. While workload management was perceived to be the cause of Bumrah not playing, now a fresh report has given an entirely new angle to the development. It says not workload management, but a knee injury stopped Bumrah from playing. "Unfortunately, Bumrah is suffering from a knee injury. The good thing is that it's not a major one and won't require surgery. The BCCI medical team is currently awaiting his scan reports," a report in TOI quoted a BCCI official as saying. India's premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah not taking part in the series decider against England at The Oval has sparked a debate over his Test future. Considering his injury-ravaged body, it is highly unlikely that Bumrah would ever be fully available for a five-match series in the foreseeable future. The next such assignment isn't until 2027, at home against Australia. He made himself available for three Tests out of five in England and stuck to his side of the bargain but the followers of the game including greats like Anil Kumble were left wanting more with the series on the line in the final Test. Him being released from squad on Friday also had the tongues wagging. In the near future, India play only two-match Test series against the West Indies and South Africa while the important white ball commitments include the Asia Cup in September and the T20 World Cup at home early next year. "There is an Asia Cup around the corner, the T20 World Cup is also there. He would want to play those events. Considering his body, he can't play every game. He needs to be managed with extra care. Playing him at The Oval would have been a huge risk. "Going forward, there needs to be a clear plan on how to manage Bumrah's Test career," said a BCCI source told PTI. The 31-year-old Bumrah bowled 119.4 overs across three Tests and took 14 wickets including two five-wicket hauls at Leeds and Lord's. India's only win of the series thus far came at Edgbaston where Bumrah was rested.

Stuart Broad criticizes decision to end play early on Day 4 of India vs England, says fans were left disappointed

India vs England Test match has now set up for a blockbuster finish on the fifth and final day of the series as far as the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy is concerned. Day 4 at The Oval was all but over and done with, as England were sailing through in the chase of 374. However, Shubman Gill's India had something else up their sleeves as the visitors scripted a memorable fightback in the final session, toppling Jacob Bethell and Joe Root back to back. Nevertheless, the umpires at one point decided that it was time to get the players off the field as the light was now bad. Yet, the officials decided to call stumps early on Day 4 and ask the players to return to the field on the final day. Ex-England pacer Stuart Broad has now questioned the move to force an early stumps and called it a 'lazy' decision. The left-arm seamer stated that the supporters deserved to see the Test match end on Sunday as the atmosphere really demanded it. It must be noted that as soon as the umpires called stumps, it was bright sunshine at the Oval. If the authorities had been more lenient with the rules, the players could have returned to the field and finish the match on Day 4 itself. As per the official rules and regulations, the players would have to be back on the field by 11.12 PM IST at the latest. The umpires, however, had called stumps for England vs India Test by 11 PM IST. The decision was taken by the on-field officials, Ahsan Raza and Kumar Dharmasena, after consulting with the groundstaff.
