From packing cubes to multi-strap bras: the holiday hacks you swear by

To help you pack more thoughtfully, make the most of the beach, and stay sane on long journeys with small people, we've asked for your best holiday tips – and rounded up the best of our own, too.
If you want to take more manageable luggage, two- (or even three-) in-one products are a godsend. Reader Carina suggests 'a decent multi-strap bra to cover all eventualities', such as this M&S Flexifit bra that can be worn three ways.
Fashion editor Jess Cartner-Morley loves this swimsuit from John Lewis (now reduced to £27.50). 'The shoulder detailing and sturdy, non-transparent fabric make it perfect for wearing as a top, so it does double duty on holiday,' she suggested in her June style essentials. Fashion writer Peter Bevan selected these tailored swim shorts that could also pass as daywear for his 50 men's summer wardrobe updates.
Shoes are tricky: you want something for every occasion, but don't want to bring seven pairs with you. So, you need a pair of catch-all shoes that are comfortable for walking but won't look out of place at dinner. Fashion writer Ellie Violet Bramley found just that for her roundup of the best summer shoes: these women's Keen sandals and these men's Chaco sandals. If you're in need of holiday outfit inspo, check out Jess's capsule holiday wardrobe.
When it comes to beauty, travel minis will save suitcase space. Beauty writer Anita Bhagwandas picked her favourite Clinique travel moisturiser (currently on sale for £10) and two-in-one Bumble and Bumble dry shampoo and styling powder for her guide to the best travel toiletries. However, decanting your own products is far kinder to the planet (and cheaper, as you can use products you already own): she recommended these travel pots.
Choose a lightweight, quick-drying hammam-style towel instead of a bulky beach towel, says Melanie Wilkinson in our summer style updates (she also found this cute coin purse key chain to carry loose change for emergency ice-creams). While reader Annie Jackson suggests packing baby powder: 'It works a treat for getting sand off your feet and hands.'
Reader Shona recommends packing cubes: 'I organise my clothing by category in each cube so it's easy to find what I want without rummaging,' she says. She also advises noting what you did and didn't wear to inform your packing next time.
If you're in need of some new luggage, look no further than Pete Wise's favourite budget pick from his test of the best suitcases and this genius Antler carry-on bag that Jess says has strangers stopping her in the street.
Always check visa requirements before travelling: people from Europe heading to the UK now need to pay £16 for an ETA. Similarly, the US requires you to have an Esta even just for a layover. If you're planning on driving from the UK to Europe, here's everything you need to know.
Learn a few basic words in the language – please, thank you, hello at least. Duolingo is a great free app to help you learn. Plus, make a list of everyone's must-do activities to ensure you don't miss anything. Never over-plan though – always leave space for spontaneity and rest (holidays are always more tiring than you think).
Reader Jess Rogers has a tip for distracting kids on long journeys: 'Wrap up little inexpensive gifts from the charity shop and stagger them throughout the journey – or as a distraction to avoid a meltdown.' She also has a staycation hack: 'Find a new theme for every outing … how many birds/butterflies can you spot? Can you find a rainbow of flowers?' For more tips and tricks, check out our guide to surviving long journeys with kids.
'The only thing that gets me out of my tent': the camping essentials you need (and what you don't)
The best kettles to save energy and speed up your cuppa, tested
The best short shorts for men – and how to pull them off
'Astonishingly good value': the best supermarket tofu, tasted and rated
Summer drinking should be just as special for the sober. Wine writer Sophia Longhi has been testing red, white, rose, bubbles and sparkling tea to bring you this selection of 28 genuinely delicious no- and low-alcohol wines. Her favourites include a French white that tastes like the real thing, a blanc de blancs fit for a celebration – and even a few decent red wines.

Jackie Apostel, 30, flaunts her jaw-dropping figure in a bandeau bikini top as she shares loved-up holiday snap with boyfriend Cruz Beckham, 20
Cruz Beckham's girlfriend, Jackie Apostel, looked sensational in a blue bandeau bikini as she shared snaps from their luxury yacht holiday in the south of France. The influencer, 30, took to her Instagram on Friday to give followers an insight into her life lately with the Beckhams. And in one sizzling snap, she flaunted her jaw-dropping figure in the stylish bikini top, further accessorising the look with Victoria Beckham 's perfume bottle necklace and an oversized hat. Meanwhile, in another sweet holiday snap, Cruz could be seen cosying up to his love on a sun lounger as they both soaked up the sun. Next, Jackie slipped into a stylish white ensemble as she posed up a storm in a lavish bathroom. Flashing a glimpse of her toned midriff, Jackie looked incredible in a white crop top and matching trousers, featuring flared legs. The songwriter also shared with her followers a screenshot of her busy to-do list as well as several picturesque snaps of her latest holiday destinations. The Instagram photo dump comes after Cruz took a hilarious swipe at his father, David Beckham, as he mimicked him once again in a pair of tight white pants, mirroring his dad's underwear campaign. The youngest Beckham son stripped down to $550 (£410) Prada Speedos during the family yacht trip around St Tropez on Wednesday, which seemed to be borrowed from his dad's wardrobe after he was spotted wearing them last year. Poking fun at his father, Cruz playfully posed on the boat in a stance reminiscent of David's iconic BOSS underwear campaign, where he wore white briefs and slouched in a chair to show off his muscular frame. Cruz captioned the shot: 'Spreadin em' [sic] However, Cruz wasn't the only joker in the family, as his older brother Romeo, 22, savaged him with a cheeky response in his comments, writing 'Jesus', which sparked a wave of replies from fans who appeared to all think the same thing. The family are holidaying together on their £16million yacht, Seven, off the coast of the French Riviera. The only child not present is their eldest, Brooklyn, 26. The family were spotted having a whale of a time together on the boat on Wednesday, as Cruz kept his tight pants on for a spin around the bay on a wakeboard, showing off his skills before flaunting his musical talent on his guitar. The songwriter also shared with her followers a screenshot of her busy to-do list as well as several picturesque snaps of her latest holiday destinations He frolicked on the sun deck with his bikini-clad girlfriend Jackie before diving into the water. Following his dip in the sea, he could be seen chatting with Romeo, who was also on the annual family holiday this week. David and Victoria's estranged son, Brooklyn, is the only Beckham child not on the getaway, having spent the week before in the same location with his wife, Nicola Peltz, 30, and his in-laws. The eldest Beckham son looked to be missing out on a fun-filled trip, as the other offspring made the most of their trip together. Brooklyn has left the south of France to return to the U.S, where he was spotted looking glum on an outing in New York with his wife and mother-in-law, Claudia, on Tuesday. He narrowly avoided a run-in with his family in France amid their ongoing feud, after both families were pictured in the same port just days apart.

The ideal flight time: Early shift, late show or something in between?
Among the many benefits claimed for Heathrow 's controversial third-runway proposal is this: 'A better selection of flight times to the most popular destinations.' It's always good to have choice, and offering multiple departures across the day is a passenger benefit. Yet is there a perfect time to fly? You will have a view on this. Consider a three-hour flight to somewhere in Europe from a major UK airport. What time provides maximum benefit? My excellent colleagues have their opinions, which I shall bring you in a moment. But I have two preferences. 6am: Many aspects of a dawn flight are hideous: waking in the early hours, handling intermittent public transport or driving through the night, security queues longer than the Great Wall of China... Yet once you arrive at your destination, all is forgiven: assuming a one-hour time difference, it's 10am. The whole day lies ahead of you, museums are opening and the first delicious lunch is only a couple of hours away. 4pm: No need for an alarm. Whatever your chosen transport to the airport, it is likely to be quiet – as is the security queue. With that one-hour time difference, you will arrive in time for dinner and a drink before sleeping soundly ahead of your first day's adventures. My excellent colleague, travel writer Natalie Wilson, could not be more at odds with these timings. She picks her perfect schedule exactly in the middle, five hours from each of mine. 'For a travel experience with the least hassle, an 11am departure time would be my sweet spot,' Natalie says. "Assuming I'm arriving two hours before boarding (something that's hotly debated on the travel desk), 9am promises several forms of public transport are running to get me to a London aviation hub for an overpriced airport breakfast on several hours of sleep. 'Say there's a three-hour flight to Europe, and there's a one-hour time jump, you're ideally timed to arrive just after the average hotel check-in.' It sounds relaxed – though I don't relish having so much of the day devoured by travelling. Global Travel Editor Annabel Grossman goes for the late shift: 'Morning flights, where I'm up at the crack of dawn, leave me exhausted. It's not a great way to start a holiday or any trip, as it often means the first couple days involve catching up on sleep. 'I recently discovered to joy of an evening flight. Airports are so much quieter, and everyone seems far more relaxed and less bad tempered than during the morning rush! 'Then there's no hanging around to check in when you arrive at your destination – if you arrive earlier it's usually a bit of a wasted day anyway. You can have a good night's sleep and you're ready to start your holiday. Plus, you have the morning for finishing up packing.' On the subject of relaxation: at the British end, you could choose a flight that departs after most passengers have already taken off. Fortunately I have asked all the big airports for the magic midpoint when exactly half of the day's passengers have departed. There is no clear pattern: the halfway point is reached as early as 8am at Birmingham and as late as 2.50pm at Southampton. At the big four UK airports, the sequence is: Manchester: 11am Gatwick: 12.30pm Stansted: 1.30pm Heathrow: 2.15pm At the first three, I know from experience that the 'first wave' of flights is tough going (as it is at Luton, Birmingham, Edinburgh and many other airports). Yet few people leave Heathrow in the first wave, so the early experience can be surprisingly calm. There is one more departure time for three-hour flights that, depending on how well you sleep on aircraft, can work to your advantage: the midnight plane going east. Athens and Istanbul are both three-and-a-bit hours flying time from the London area, and with a two-hour time jump. A departure (from an almost empty airport) around midnight gets you to your destination at around 5am. After an hour's journey into the city, drop your bags at the hotel, then start your day like the locals: watching the sun rise over the Bosphorus or the Parthenon. You've also saved on a hotel night. The energy of the city will propel you through to lunch, and with a cooperative hotel you can take a siesta before some more exploration and indulgence. What about coming home? As late as possible for me, please: ideally 8pm, with the time change working in my favour for a 10pm arrival at the UK airport. But last word to Natalie, who says: 'In a dream world, on the way home I'd reverse the process: checking out of my hotel room at 12 noon to guarantee I've got my money's worth, arriving to the airport at 1pm ahead of a 3pm take-off, arriving back in London for 5pm. Then there's plenty of time to make my way home and unpack.' Simon Calder, also known as The Man Who Pays His Way, has been writing about travel for The Independent since 1994. In his weekly opinion column, he explores a key travel issue – and what it means for you.

Kelly Brook sends temperatures soaring in a bikini as she enjoys romantic Italian getaway with husband Jeremy Parisi
Kelly Brook sent temperatures soaring in a black leaf-print bikini as she shared a slew of snaps from a romantic getaway with her husband Jeremy Parisi. The model, 45, and her husband, 40, have jetted off to Ponza, Italy, for a sun-soaked holiday. And Kelly gave followers an insight into their trip on Friday, with the pair, who tied the knot in 2022, seeming as smitten as ever in the Instagram photo dump. In one photo, the couple sweetly posed for a snap on a boat, as they enjoyed a sunny day at sea. Kelly looked nothing short of sensational in the busty two-piece, further accessorising the look with a pair of black oversized shades, as she beamed alongside her man. Meanwhile, in another snap, Kelly appeared to be living her best life as she jumped off the bow of the boat into the crystal-clear sea. The model, 45, and her husband, 40, have jetted off to Ponza, Italy, for a sun-soaked holiday and the pair lived it up on a lavish boat on Friday During their vacation, the happy couple also ventured into town and made a quick pit stop at a fruit stand before enjoying drinks at a bar. Kelly looked radiant in a vibrant blue kaftan paired with a straw cross-body bag as she posed next to the fruit stand. Meanwhile, in another snap, her husband Jeremy cut a smart casual figure in a grey shirt and white shorts as he ordered drinks at the bar. She captioned the post: 'Italian Summers with the Hubby @jeremyparisi❤️⚓️' The holiday snaps come after Kelly showed off her incredible curves in a joyful bikini snap from her holiday to the South of France. The radio host was all smiles as she posed in the plunging red and white bikini that she accessorised with a pair of oversized sunglasses with brown lenses. She tied her hair back as she went for a dip in the crystal clear waters as she and husband Jeremy Parisi celebrated his milestone 40th birthday. Kelly captioned the picture: 'Pure joy'. The couple appeared to have a fantastic time on the week-long trip, spending much of their time by the sea enjoying French cuisine. As revealed on Kelly's Instagram stories, the romantic holiday began in the French capital of Paris before the couple made their way to the French Riviera. Kelly later shared a series of snaps from the trip on her profile grid, captioning them: 'What a Beautiful Week of Love Sun Sea Sand and Crudite.' The trip will undoubtedly have had huge personal significance for the couple as Jeremy, who is Italian, previously lived in France and is fluent in the language. Their love story is a very modern one and began in 2014 when Kelly watched one of the model's videos on Instagram and slid into his DMs. A year later, in 2015, they were officially an item.
