Body of missing teen recovered in Lake Michigan near Illinois Beach State park, officials say
The office said that on Tuesday, shortly before 6:30 p.m., the Beach Park Fire Department, along with the Lake County Sheriff's Office and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police, responded to the beach, in unincorporated Zion, for a report of a beachgoer who went underwater and did not resurface.
The body was recovered on Friday in the general area of the north beach.
Coroners identified the victim as 14-year-old Kyle Williams of Milwaukee.
An autopsy conducted on Friday at the Lake County Coroner's Office indicated that the teen's death is consistent with drowning.
Investigation into the drowning remains under investigation by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police and the Lake County Coroner's Office.
No further information was immediately available.

Attorney General Kwame Raoul warns Texas politicians that police can't just come to Illinois to arrest Democrats
Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul issued a stern warning to Texas Governor Greg Abbott and other Texas Republicans who said they will send law enforcement to arrest Democrats who left the state over the GOP redistricting plan. More than 50 Texas state house Democrats have left the state to deny the Republican-controlled legislature a quorum for a special sessions in which they will redraw congressional districts in order to deliver five more Republican representatives to President Trump. The special session was supposed to provide disaster relief for the hundreds of victims of deadly Texas floods earlier this year. A significant number of those Democrats have come to Illinois, where their efforts have been supported by Governor JB Pritzker and Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton, along with other lawmakers. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has also called the Democrats cowardly, and said they should be found, arrested and brought back to Texas' capitol of Austin immediately. But Raoul was quick to shut down Paxton's and Burrows' threats. "In Illinois, the rule of law matters, and law enforcement must have a legitimate legal basis to arrest someone," Raoul wrote in a statement Tuesday morning. "Texas law enforcement officers have no authority to hunt down and make arrests of Texas legislators in Illinois based on a civil arrest warrant issued by the Texas House. The Texas House may have managed to issue civil arrest warrants without having a quorum, but those civil warrants carry no weight in Illinois." The Texas Democrats appeared at another news conference Tuesday morning alongside Pritzker, Stratton and Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin, where they characterized this fight not as a Texas fight, but a fight for all Americans. "Right now, we are facing the voting rights fight of our lifetime," said Stratton, who is also running for Senate. "This is a new Democratic party," Martin said. "We are bringing a knife to a knife fight, and we are going to fight fire with fire." "They've decided the only way to save themselves is to cheat. To change the rules in the middle of the game," Pritzker said. "And what do MAGA Republicans do when Trump ignores his oath of office and theirs, and when they're taking it upon themselves to thwart the will of the American people? Austin Drummond captured in Tennessee after days-long manhunt
Austin Drummond, the man at the center of a days-long manhunt accused in a quadruple homicide in Tennessee, was arrested on Tuesday, August 5. Drummond was wanted in connection with the killing of four people in Lake County on July 29. He was taken into custody by the Jackson Police Department, according to the Dyer County Sheriff's Office. 'This would not have been achieved without the tireless work and dedication of our local, state, and federal partners," Sheriff Jeff Box said in a statement. "Their commitment to justice and public safety around the clock since Tuesday at 3 p.m. has been invaluable throughout this investigation. Also, our citizens have been extremely helpful and cooperative. Thank you so much for always being a willing partner with our deputies and investigators," Box continued. Drummond is facing several charges, including first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Hours later, authorities announced that they were investigating a crime scene where four people were deceased in Tiptonville, revealing there may be a connection between the cases. The victims were identified as 15-year-old Braydon Williams, 20-year-old Adrianna Williams, 21-year-old James Matthew Wilson and 38-year-old Cortney Rose. The victims were the baby's parents, uncle and grandmother, respectively. Drummond, who was considered armed and dangerous, was recently captured on surveillance footage amid the high-profile search to track him down. The 28-year-old was seen on surveillance videos in Jackson on August 3, donning a camouflage outfit with a brown backpack. He also appeared to be carrying a black rifle in his hand. Three others linked to Drummond's manhunt arrested Officials have charged three people in connection with aiding Drummond. Dearrah Sanders, 23, was arrested Aug. 4 on a charge of accessory after the fact to first-degree murder, according to a statement from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI). They alleged that Sanders assisted Drummond after the murders took place. Tanaka Brown, 29, and Giovonte Thomas, 29, were arrested on accessory after the fact to first-degree murder on Aug. 1 and Aug. 2, respectively, the agency said in a pair of statements. An update added that Brown had been charged with one count of tampering with evidence. Thomas was already booked into the Madison County Jail on an unrelated charge and was expected to be moved to Lake County Jail for arraignment, according to the statement. Drummond has a criminal history Drummond served a 13-year sentence for aggravated robbery and retaliation charges in 2014 – according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal, part of the USA TODAY Network. He was released in September 2024, despite several pending contraband charges, including allegations he had meth and a handgun. Two men killed in Rockford motorcycle crashes on consecutive days identified
Two men killed in separate motorcycle crashes Aug. 1 and Aug. 2 have been identified by the Winnebago County Coroner's Office. Ricky Kruse, 45, of Rockford, was identified as the man who was injured when his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck about 6:30 p.m. Aug. 1 at the intersection of 9th Street and 20th Avenue. Kruse was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:51 p.m. An autopsy shows that Kruse died from blunt trauma to the head, neck, chest and abdomen from the crash, according to information from the Winnebago County Coroner's Office. A man suffered serious injuries when a motorcycle he was riding collided with a sedan about 2:43 p.m. Aug. 2 at the intersection of South Springfield Avenue and Montague Road. The man identified as Ralph Fry, 65, of Winnebago, was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:16 p.m. An autopsy showed that Fry died of chest trauma suffered during the crash.
