
Kuwaiti players ready to compete for top spots at the Arab Squash Championship
Abdullah Al-Subaie, head of the Kuwaiti delegation, expressed confidence in the Kuwaiti players' readiness to compete for top honors. Notable contenders from the Kuwaiti team include Abdullah Hani, Khaled Al-Fawzan, Issa Al-Najada, and Saleh Al-Kandari.
Representatives from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Qatar, and Yemen, along with a Kuwaiti representative, attended the draw ceremony. Walid Al-Sumaie, President of the Arab Squash Federation, was also present to oversee the proceedings.
The Secretary General of the Kuwait Squash Federation, Hamed Al-Omran, extended a warm welcome to the participants, emphasizing the importance of the championship and wishing everyone success in the spirit of friendship and peace.
In the tournament's draw, Saudi Arabia's Mohammed Al-Nusfan was placed at the top of Group 1, while Kuwait's Abdullah Hani led Group 2. The singles competition kicked off with 20 thrilling matches across the under-19 and under-15 categories, showcasing intense competition among the players.
The quarterfinal matches are set to begin today, with the first rounds scheduled from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. The semifinals will take place in the evening, followed by the finals tomorrow, Saturday evening.

Four Kuwaitis qualify for finals of Tetrathlon Worlds
CAIRO, Aug 16, (KUNA): Four athletes representing the Kuwait Modern Pentathlon Federation (KMPF) have secured spots in the finals of the UIPM 2025 Tetrathlon U15 World Championships. Mohammad Al-Suhaibi, Namr Aba-Darra'e, Badr Al-Suhaibi, and Abdullah Al-Habashi are among 26 competitors from various countries who will compete for medals in both individual and team events. KMPF Chairman Nasser Al-Waleed praised the Kuwaiti athletes' strong performances in the preliminary rounds, noting that their success reflects rigorous training and the robust support of the Kuwait Olympic Committee. The championship, organized by Egypt in partnership with the International Modern Pentathlon Federation (UIPM), opened in Alexandria on Wednesday, featuring 350 athletes from 26 nations. Tetrathlon, a variant of the Modern Pentathlon that excludes fencing, consists of four disciplines: shooting, swimming, running, and riding.

Al-Arabi players pose after victory. -- KUNA MALDIVES: Al-Arabi Football Club secured an important victory on Tuesday against hosts Mazia Sports Maldives with four unanswered goals in the Asian Challenge League play-offs at the Maldives National Stadium. Al-Arabi opened the scoring early through their professional player Ewal in the third minute with a powerful shot after a run down the right wing. His teammate Ngui added a second goal in the 41st minute after a cross that he powerfully shot into the net, giving Al-Arabi a comfortable 2-0 lead at the end of the first half. In the second half, Al-Arabi left no chance for their hosts to come back after Christopher John scored the third goal with an individual effort in the 54th minute, allowing Al-Arabi to dominate the game. In the 88th minute, Hussein Ashkanani scored the fourth goal after a pass from his teammate Youssef Majid, who shot powerfully at the goalkeeper, ending the match with a clean 4-0 victory.
