Drugs Worth RM3.55 Million Seized, Two Vietnamese Women Among Three Arrested
Johor police chief Datuk M. Kumar said the three suspects, aged between 32 and 39, were arrested during separate raids conducted by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department of the state police and the Johor Baru Selatan district police.
He said the syndicate, which is believed to be active since April last year, used gated and guarded residences to store and process the drugs before distributing them to the local market.
According to him, the drugs were seized following the arrest of the local man by a roadside, which then led the police to raid a rented room in a shophouse here.
"The suspect also led the police to conduct raids at three luxury condominium units, also rented by him, where more drugs were seized and two Vietnamese women were arrested," he told a press conference at the Johor Police Contingent Headquarters, here today
He said that in total, the police seized 20.7 kilogrammes (kg) of powder, suspected to be ecstasy, 18.49 kg of marijuana, 154.25 grams of ketamine and 141 grams of erimin 5 pills, as well as various equipment for processing and repackaging drugs, as well as RM800 in cash.
He said the current drug trafficking trend also appears to be shifting towards marijuana flowers, based on recent seizures.
''This may be because marijuana flowers have a higher hallucinogenic effect due to their purity, besides being more expensive, with an estimated market value of RM36,000 per kilogramme," he said.
Kumar said all the suspects, who tested positive for methamphetamine, were on remand until July 17, and the case was being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 6(3) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

2 Bangladeshi cyclists killed in hit-and-run
MUAR: Two Bangladeshi cyclists were killed and a fellow country man seriously injured after a hit-and-run in Parit Salam, Parit Yusof, here last night. The 8.45pm crash occurred when the three Bangladeshi men, all aged 21, were cycling against traffic from Parit Yusof towards Bukit Mor before an unidentified vehicle heading in the opposite direction crashed into them. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said initial investigations revealed the vehicle hit the trio, flinging them onto the left shoulder of the road. One cyclist died on the spot, while another succumbed to his injuries while he sought treatment at the Muar hospital's red zone. The third victim suffered fractures to his right wrist and shoulder and is treated in the hospital's yellow zone. As per press time, the driver is yet to lodge a report. "Investigations are underway to identify the driver, and vehicle involved to facilitate investigations for reckless driving causing deaths," he said in a statement today. If convicted, the offender faces up to 10 years' jail and a RM50,000 fine. Raiz urged witnesses to come forward and assist the investigation. Four teens freed on bail in Kajang assault case
KUALA LUMPUR: Four 13-year-old students detained over the alleged assault of a classmate at a shopping mall in Kajang have been released on police bail today. Kajang district police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said the remand for the suspects, which was initially extended until tomorrow, was concluded earlier following the completion of documentation and investigative procedures. 'To date, police have recorded statements from nine individuals, including the four students,' he said in a statement. Preliminary investigations suggest the incident was triggered by dissatisfaction among the suspects with the victim's manner of communication and interaction. On July 30, the Form One student lodged a police report alleging classmates beat him at about 11 am at the mall. He later received medical treatment and was confirmed to have sustained minor facial injuries.
