Bafana Bafana have been on an upward trajectory recently, which is why expectations will be high for the team to win both of their international friendlies in June.
Bafana will face Lesotho and Nigeria in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in September, knowing that victories in both matches will secure their place at the finals in North America. To ensure they leave no stone unturned in their preparations and expand their squad, Bafana have scheduled two friendlies on home soil.
Hugo Broos' side will host Tanzania at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium next week Friday (kick-off 7.30pm), before facing Mozambique four days later at Loftus Versfeld.

Broos is set to announce his 23-man final squad on Thursday afternoon, despite omitting Mamelodi Sundowns players due to their congested schedule. Sundowns will face Pyramids in their must-win CAF Champions League final second leg at the 30 June Stadium on Sunday (kick-off 7pm) — the same day Bafana players are due to report for camp.
Thirteen days later, the Brazilians will represent South Africa and the continent at the Fifa Club World Cup, which runs until July 13 in the US.
The absence of Sundowns players has opened the door for new talent to be integrated into the squad and impress Broos ahead of the qualifiers and the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Moracco in December.
While new faces are expected, Broos has retained the core of his regulars in the 41-man preliminary squad he announced last week.

Orlando Pirates, having once again finished second in the Betway Premiership, are likely to have strong representation. Sipho Chaine, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Thalente Mbatha and Relebohile Mofokeng are all expected to retain their places in the national team.
Youngster Mbekezeli Mbokazi could also earn his first senior call-up after a stellar breakthrough season at Pirates. The tough-tackling midfielder was so integral to his club that they opted not to release him for the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt — a tournament Amajita went on to win against Morocco.
His composure on and off the ball has drawn widespread praise, and many believe he deserves at least a nomination for Young Player of the Season. Mbokazi's teammate, Mohau Nkota, could also make his international debut after impressing during Pirates' CAF Champions League campaign.

Bafana B side overcome Zimbabwe to keep hope for semifinals of Cosafa Cup alive
Bafana Bafana 'B' team defeated their neighbours Zimbabwe 2-0 to register their first win of the 2025 Cosafa Cup under way in Bloemfontein. South Africa scored a goal in each half during the Group A's match at Free State Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Orlando Pirates star Kabelo Dlamini scored a penalty five minutes before the halftime break while SuperSport United's young defender Ime Okon found the back of the net through an impressive header on 78 minutes. Bafana needed to win the match to place themselves in a better position to proceed to the next round of the tournament. The Vela Khumalo-coached outfit started their participation this year with a disappointing 1-0 loss to Mozambique, who are top of the pool by four points after their second outing ended in a draw with Mauritius. Kabelo Dlamini makes no mistake from the penalty spot 🎯 Bafana Bafana get their first of match and the tournament. 📺 Stream on DStv: — SuperSport Football ⚽️ (@SSFootball) June 7, 2025 South Africa are now second in Group A while Mauritius are third with two points as Zimbabwe find themselves at the foot of the table with just a single point next to their name. Khumalo's men displayed a good performance and created tons of opportunities, which were either not used or well defended by their opponents. There were excellent performances from players such as Boitumelo Radiopane, Masindi Nemtajela, who is heavily linked with a move to Pirates, Man of the Match Kamogelo Sebelebele, Siphesihle Mkhize and Gape Moralo. Nemtajela won the penalty that saw the hosts score their first goal of the competition this year. The Marumo Gallants forward gave the Zimbabweans defenders a tough time and combined well with Radiopane. Okon's goal came from a well-taken free kick by Moralo. Bafana will hope to give another solid display when they face Mauritius in the last match of the group stages at Seisa Ramabodu Stadium in Bloemfontein at 3pm on Tuesday. Only the winners of the group will proceed to the semifinals.

Confirmed: Orlando Pirates to announce new player
Orlando Pirates fans have a new right-back to call their own. Tshepho Mashiloane is coming to Soweto. This will spell new competition for Deano Van Rooyen and Bandile Shandu. As reported in previous weeks, the Sea Robbers signed the 23-year-old Baroka FC star for the 2025/26 Betway Premiership and CAF Champions League. While the Orlando Pirates have yet to announce the news, Baroka FC's chairman, Khurishi Mphahlele, has confirmed that the deal has been completed. 'We still got to pay Mashiloane until the end of June, but Orlando Pirates have purchased Mashiloane for the coming season, not this season,' Mphahlele told iDiski Times . Another Orlando Pirates player to Kaizer Chiefs? Tshepho Mashiloane in action for Baroka FC in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. Image: IOL 'But if Pirates want Mashiloane earlier there's no problem we've got an agreement with Pirates. We can always make provision for that, but we are going to pay Mashiloane at the end of June because his contract ends at the end of June and the Pirates contract begins on the first of July. Sundowns star gives back to boys at his former school 'From the first of July he is an Orlando Pirates player, until then he's still our player and we pay him.' The 'Special One' Themba Zwane named in Mamelodi Sundowns' Club World Cup squad
Themba Zwane Themba Zwane watched from the bench as Mamelodi Sundowns fell short against Pyramids— a CAF Champions League final without their captain, and a decision that still haunts Chloorkop. Photo: Backpagepix The Mamelodi Sundowns CAF Champions League final discard Themba Zwane has been named in the squad for the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States later this month. The 35-year-old Zwane was an unused substitute in both legs of the recent CAF showpiece, and the Sundowns coach, Miguel Cardoso, was singled out for stinging criticism on his decision not to field the club's captain. Former Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena was recently pressed for comment on Sundowns snubbing Zwane for the final. He refused to criticise the decision except to say: "Zwane is special". There is a line of thought that says Cardoso might think the ageing Zwane is not up for the rigours of international football. He did not want the team to suffer due to pressure to select Zwane, the team captain. Meanwhile, the PSL announced that Sundowns will fly out to Florida on Sunday. Speaking ahead of the squad's Sunday departure, Cardoso said the Club World Cup represented a major career highlight for him and a unique opportunity to showcase African football at its finest. The South African champions, one of four African representatives at the tournament, hope to make a strong impression on the global stage, but without feeling overwhelmed by expectation. 'After my experience as an assistant coach in UEFA Champions League and Europa League matches, being involved in the Club World Cup is a big achievement,' said Cardoso, who previously qualified for the tournament with Tunisian club Esperance. 'For me, it's a very particular position - a clear highlight in any coach's career.' Cardoso expressed the pride and responsibility he feels representing South Africa and the African continent. While fully aware of the challenge ahead, he emphasised Sundowns' ambitions to compete fiercely. 'We know we're one of the biggest teams in Africa, but this is a test to see where we stand on the global stage,' he said. 'The mindset here is strong - focused on performance, achieving goals, and winning trophies. We want to understand our level compared to the world's best.' Facing powerhouse German side Borussia Dortmund in the tournament's early stages, Cardoso is well aware of the intensity they will encounter. 'Dortmund plays a very high-tempo, aggressive style typical of German football,' he noted. 'We're used to controlling games with high ball possession - around 70 per cent - so this will be a challenge. We have to be mentally ready to adapt to moments without the ball and still push ourselves to compete.' Cardoso also reflected on how opponents often play defensively against Sundowns, using long balls to bypass their pressure. He believes that to succeed, Sundowns must be a 'very complete team' capable of handling varied styles and maintaining their aggressive approach. Above all, Cardoso wants his players to play with freedom and enjoyment, shedding any burden of expectation. 'The worst thing would be to finish a game feeling we didn't play to our level because we carried unnecessary weight on the pitch,' he said. 'Our players should enjoy the experience and express the joy of African football - on and off the pitch.' He also challenged outdated perceptions of African football as disorganised, pointing to the tactical discipline and quality found in the continent's top teams.
