Injured Tony Bellew helped off pitch at Soccer Aid as worrying message emerges
The former boxing world champion looked devastated as he limped off moments into the match at Old Trafford
There was concern for Bellew as he was helped off the pitch
Tony Bellew had to be helped off the pitch as he was forced off with a nasty looking injury just moments into Soccer Aid at Old Trafford.
The former boxing world champion was named in the starting lineup for the World XI as they took on England in the annual charity match, but his evening was cut short as he limped off after six minutes on the field. Bellew looked in a great deal of discomfort as he was helped off the pitch, having signalled for help from his side's physio team.
It is unclear whether Bellew was injured in a tackle or not, but he struggled to walk as he left the field at the Theatre of Dreams.
However, it was later revealed by commentator Sam Matterface that the Liverpudlian had reportedly told the medical team that "something went bang and I heard it go".
On hearing the news, co-commentator Jason Manford added: "That's not good".
Ahead of the match, Harry Redknapp had given a concerning injury update about Bellew, saying he had suffered a groin injury in training.

"We give up our time, free of charge, and come and enjoy it to raise as much money as we can," Redknapp told Jane Garvey and Fi Glover on the Off Air podcast.
"Tony Bellew, ex-world champion, he's just decided to boot a ball without even warming up and just tore his groin.
"He's so tough he'll probably play on with it."
After his early departure, Bellew was replaced by Strictly Come Dancing professional Gorka Marquez.
It came moments after Wayne Rooney opened the scoring for England on his return to Old Trafford, with the Manchester United legend pouncing on a loose ball to turn it past former teammate Edwin van der Sar.
It was the fastest ever goal in Soccer Aid history, coming after just four minutes.

Despite Bellew being born in Liverpool, he was representing the World XI for the second year running - with the exact reason still unclear.
His teammates this year include football legends Rivaldo, David Trezeguet and Nemanja Vidic, as well as the likes of Asim Chaudhry, Richard Gadd and Maisie Adam.
They are up against an England side containing ex-professionals Paul Scholes, Jack Wilshere and Rooney, as well as famous faces like Louis Tomlinson, Bella Ramsey and Alex Brooker.

Wayne Rooney makes Man Utd and title winner predictions as he sends Ruben Amorim message
Wayne Rooney has made his predictions for the 2025/26 Premier League season, with the Manchester United legend tipping his old side for a resurgence under Ruben Amorim Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has tipped Liverpool for the title and his old side for a Premier League resurgence under Ruben Amorim. However, he believes the Red Devils are one or two bodies short going into the new season. United kick off their season at home to Arsenal on Sunday and are eager to bounce back from a dismal 15th-place finish last season, which represented their worst Premier League campaign. But with new signings Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha bolstering their attack, there's a sense of optimism for a fresh start. Rooney, United's all-time leading scorer, believes his former employers will climb an impressive 10 places to secure a fifth-place finish by May. He made this prediction during a Match of the Day special edition preview (via the Manchester Evening News) alongside Kelly Cates, Danny Murphy and Julien Laurens ahead of the new season's kick-off. "I still think they [United] need one or two more signings," said the Old Trafford icon. "But I think you can see what Amorim is doing. I think it's looking better for Manchester United, and I think they will sneak into the top five. I hope they do, you never know." Laurens was quick to tease Rooney about his obvious bias given his 559 appearances for United. The Red Devils face a monumental challenge in regaining their Champions League credentials, especially after consecutive seasons of setting new records for new all-time worst league finishes. "Who did you play for again?" quipped Laurens, leaving Rooney and the rest of the panel in stitches over his potentially biased perspective. Despite his Everton and United roots, Rooney didn't let his loyalties cloud his judgement as he predicted Liverpool would retain their title. Moreover, he believes that if Arne Slot 's team manage to secure Isak, they're a sure bet for the crown. The Newcastle forward is currently at loggerheads with the club after it was revealed the Swede is determined he has played his last match for the Magpies, keenly awaiting another offer from Liverpool following a rejected £120million bid. "I already had Liverpool as favourites to win the title this year," Rooney admitted. "But if Isak comes in, then I think they're gonna be unstoppable. "The quality they've got, as Danny's just alluded [to], and I think a big thing was replacing Trent [Alexander-Arnold]. There's a lot of chances created, a lot of goals came from that side. I think [Jeremie] Frimpong has got the attributes to fill that, so I think Liverpool look strong." Rooney could only grin as he spoke the words, though it wasn't one of joy. Rather it seemed to pain the pundit to heap such praise on his old nemeses, regardless of how well-deserved the praise might be. Many pundits echo this sentiment as the new season approaches, especially with Liverpool bolstering their squad with talents like Florian Wirtz and Huge Ekitike. However, Slot's men may not find immediate success after Crystal Palace snatched the Community Shield at Wembley on Saturday. Rooney also predicted Arsenal will secure the Premier League's runner-up spot for the fourth consecutive year. He also tipped Manchester City and Chelsea to round out the top four. Wayne Rooney makes bold Man United prediction for new Premier League season - and picks SHOCK star to be the most important signing
Wayne Rooney has given his predictions for the new Premier League season - and backed Manchester United to impress. Red Devils legend Rooney, 39, is set to be more involved in the top flight in 2025-26 in a punditry role after he signed a £800,000-a-year deal to regularly appear on Match of the Day. And, ahead of the new campaign beginning on Friday when Liverpool host Bournemouth, the 39-year-old was questioned on his thoughts. Rooney picked Liverpool as his champions, and chose Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea to make up the top four. But it was his shout for fifth place that made headlines, with the former striker choosing United despite their struggles last season. Ruben Amorim 's side endured their worst-ever Premier League campaign in 2024-25, finishing 15th after 18 defeats in 38 games. They have since signed Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, while they went unbeaten throughout pre-season. Explaining his feelings, Rooney told the BBC: 'I think they still need one or two more signings but I can see what Amorim is doing. 'It's looking better for Man United and I think they will sneak into the top five. I hope they do and you never know.' Elsewhere, despite his United history, Rooney appeared to be favourable towards their arch-rivals Liverpool. Alongside naming the Reds as his choice for the title, Rooney backed Mohamed Salah to win the fifth Golden Boot of his career. Similarly, when asked for who he felt would be the most important signing in the league, he named new Liverpool right back Jeremie Frimpong. The Netherlands international, who was part of Man City's academy as a youngster, joined the Reds from Bayer Leverkusen for £35million this summer, with the full back tasked with helping to fill the void left by Trent Alexander-Arnold's departure to Real Madrid. Elsewhere, it was also in his breakout star prediction where the Liverpool trend was seen. Rooney tipped Reds wonderkid Rio Ngumoha, 16, in this regard, with the talented forward having moved to Anfield from Chelsea at the age of 15 last summer. He was named on the bench for Liverpool's defeat by Crystal Palace in the Community Shield on Sunday, but he has played just one senior game for Arne Slot's side. The final prediction Rooney gave was on which promoted team would perform the best out of Leeds, Burnley and Sunderland. The 39-year-old backed Leeds, who have strengthened significantly this summer, to top the lot.

Newcastle United were also keen but Leoni swiftly made the decision to join Liverpool where he will line up alongside a player he has described as his inspiration in Virgil van Dijk. Leoni will join van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez as Arne Slot's options at the back, effectively replacing Jarell Quansah in the squad after his £35m move to Bayer Leverkusen. The Premier League champions have also opened talks with Crystal Palace over a move for Guehi. Palace value the England international at £35million given he has just one year left on his contract at Selhurst Park. While Guehi wants to join Liverpool, he is also prepared to see out the remaining 12 months of his contract in south east London before making the switch next summer. More Trending Liverpool remain in talks with Palace, hoping to close the gap in valuation. The addition of Leoni will take Liverpool's spending to above £300m this summer, comfortably the biggest outlay in the Premier League. Florian Wirtz (£116m), Hugo Ekitike (£79m), Milos Kerkez (£40m) and Jeremie Frimpong (£29m) have all arrived on Merseyside this summer. Liverpool are also still hopeful of signing Alexander Isak from Newcastle United with the Swede adamant he will not play for the Magpies again.
