'Sundowns must recall Rulani' Former Kaizer Chiefs star
Former Kaizer Chiefs attacker Junior Khanye has advised Mamelodi Sundowns to bring back Rulani Mokwena.
This comes after the Brazilians lost the CAF Champions League final to Pyramids on Sunday. Under Miguel Cardoso, Sundowns only defended the Betway Premiership but failed to win the Nedbank Cup and the Champions League.
Mokwena, who was sacked in July, joined Wydad Casablanca but only survived for 10 months. Former Chiefs star Junior Khanye says Sundowns must bring back Rulani and part ways with Cardoso.
'If we can be honest, they signed him [Cardoso] because of the Champions League not because Rulani did anything wrong,' said Khanye on iDiski TV .
'So, they must get rid of him too. For me, I'd go to Rulani and maybe he too can humble himself as he is a free agent, come back and focus on your coaching because you are so talented, you are a genius.'
Cardoso's style of play has been criticised, especially in the Champions League, where the club struggles despite reaching the final. Khanye feels Sundowns were playing better under Rulani hence Bafana Bafana's success.
'South Africa needs to hear me well on this one, with this gu,y it's not only Sundowns that benefits but the whole nation. We got to the AFCON because of Sundowns, whether someone doesn't believe this, I don't care because we are there because of Sundowns and Rulani took out the best out of those players. Credit to Pitso [Mosimane] for bringing in Rulani and Rulani for applying himself,: said the former Kaizer Chiefs winger.

PSL promotion/relegation play-off drama set to begin with Citizens still favourites
Interim Cape Town Ciy coach Diogo Peral has a handful of upcoming matches to save the club's elite status during the PSL promotion/relegation play-offs. Photo: Backpagepix Image: Backpagepix The Motsepe Foundation Championship encountered an unexpected hurdle when newly crowned champions Durban City were momentarily denied their spot at the summit, due to an ongoing case involving the alleged improper registration of a player earlier in the season. This matter forced the PSL to delay City's title celebrations, as a guilty verdict would have carried major consequences that could have reshaped the league's final standings. However, the club was eventually cleared of any wrongdoing and the player in question, Saziso Magawana was confirmed to have been transferred and registered properly. With that chapter now closed, all attention now turns to the highly anticipated PSL promotional/relegation play-offs, set to start next Wednesday between Casric Stars and Orbit College in KwaMhlanga, Mpumalanga. Here, Obakeng Meletse takes a look at the three clubs involved, which also includes Cape Town City, and assesses their chances heading into the mini-tournament. Video Player is loading. Reflecting on their inconsistent run in the 2024/25 campaign, they'll be left ruing the many missed chances, especially after losing more than half of their matches this past season. The appointment of Diogo Peral, supported by assistants Roger de Sa and Lebogang Manyama, has not delivered the intended turnaround. A side that ended the 2023/24 season in a respectable fifth place, has now found themselves in a desperate battle to avoid losing their top-flight status. Still, there is reason for optimism. City picked up a valuable four points from their final two matches, which gave them hope all the way to the closing moments of the season. Peral and his team will aim to build on that late surge and carry some momentum into the play-offs. Their opening match of the mini-tournament is next week Saturday in Cape Town against Stars. Orbit College The Rustenburg-based club were massively improved this season. From a ninth-place finish in the 2023/24 campaign, to ending just five points behind eventual champions Durban City, their rise has been impressive. The College side will be eager to maintain the form that has turned them from mid-table competitors into serious contenders for the title and a place in the top flight. They'll face a tough test from City and a Stars sides they failed to beat in both encounters this season. There is very little margin for error, and they'll know that these chances don't come around often and this could be their best opportunity in years to secure a place in the Betway Premiership. R7 million offer made for Kaizer Chiefs striker target!
Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly already moving to ensure they put to an end their goal scoring woes for next season. Chiefs struggled to score goals with their forwards failing to get over the five-goal mark in the 2024/25 season. Coach Nasreddine Nabi made it no secret that he wanted to bring in a striker, when he arrived at Chiefs. He didn't get his wish in his first window but was able to add two forwards in January. These being Tashreeq Morris and Glody Lilepo. These experienced stars were brought in to supplement a blunt-looking attack which featured Ranga Chivaviro, Ashley du Preez and a young Wandile Duba. While Morris proved to be a flop, Lilepo ended up being the club's joint top goal scorer with young Duba with five. That, however, just highlighted the need for a senior striker to shoulder that goal scoring burden. There have been a number of players mentioned in that regard, with DRC international Fiston Mayele one. The latest striker linked to Chiefs is Mamelodi Sundowns loanee Etiosa Ighodaro according to Soccer-Laduma . Now according to the latest from same publication, Chiefs could be beaten to Ighodaro by a Russian club! 'It's a team from Russia. Yes, they've been monitoring Ighodaro for some time now and it's believed they have eventually made up their mind and they want to sign him. They are happy that he is a big striker who can use both his feet to shoot, can dribble and can also score with his head. That's very rare and that's what they are looking for. That's what they are looking at. Yes, it's a big club. It's called FC Beltika,' said the source. A second source went on to mention that Beltika could trump Chiefs with a salary offer for Ighodaro! 'There is a big offer there. Actually it's a huge offer from Russia. It's around US $400,000 (approximately R7,1 million). That's over R7 million just in salaries. So that means they are really serious about him. That's the offer in salaries only without the signing on fee,' said the source. Chiefs fans, should the club fight for Ighodaro to sign for them ahead of Beltika? Let us know by clicking on the comment tab. Or by emailing info@ or sending a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. Full list of players released by Kaizer Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs have announced the departure of three players in the past few days. Despite claiming the Nedbank Cup, Amakhosi have had a tough season, finishing ninth in the Betway Premiership. With Nasreddine Nabi desperate to change the club's fortunes, Chiefs are offloading players to make room as they look to sign quality players for next season. The players released are Sabelo Radebe, Njabulo Blom and Ranga Chivaviro. Other players such as George Matlou are rumoured to be on their way out while Fiarce Ntwari has attracted interest from other teams. On Wednesday, the club released Chivaviro after two seasons despite the striker showing good form early in the season. 'Kaizer Chiefs will not be extending striker Ranga Chivaviro's contract when it expires at the end of the month. 'The Limpopo-born attacker joined Amakhosi from Marumo Gallants in the 2023/24 season on a two-year deal. He scored nine goals and provided one assist in 45 official matches wearing Chiefs colours over two seasons.' We thank Ranga for his positive contribution to the team and wish him all the best in his future exploits,' the club said in a statement. With only Tashreeq Morris and Ashley Du Preez remaining as the club's main strikers, Kaizer Chiefs will look to boost their attacking options when the transfer window opens.
