Cyber scam worth crores busted in Yavatmal; jobless youth duped via bank accounts
Victims from villages like Chopan, Vasantnagar, Shivni, Wagholi, and Jarang were asked to open bank accounts and submit ATM cards, passwords, UPI IDs, and net banking access. These accounts were then used to route large-scale financial transactions across India—including from Gujarat, Delhi, Mumbai, and Andaman—raising suspicions of a nationwide cybercrime racket.
The fraud came to light after former Pandharkawda municipal president Santosh Borale filed a complaint with Yavatmal SP, demanding a CBI probe.
Several affected youths have also filed police complaints, naming local agents Mayur Chavan and Manohar Rathod as masterminds.
Transactions ranging from Rs10 lakh to Rs1.15 crore were carried out through these accounts, exposing the account holders—many from daily wage families—to legal action. With their accounts frozen and tax notices expected, these unsuspecting youth now face criminal charges for crimes they claim they never committed.

CBI busts call centre racket in Igatpuri resort
Mumbai: CBI busted an illegal call centre racket operating from a rented premise at a resort in Igatpuri on Friday, arresting five Mumbai-based individuals and recovering Rs 1.2 crore in unaccounted cash, 500 gm of gold and seven luxury cars collectively worth Rs 1 crore. The accused duped their victims by introducing themselves as a customer care centre of an e-commerce website. The arrested individuals — Vishal Yadav, Shebaz, Durgesh, Abhay Raj alias Raja, and Sameer alias Kalia-Sohail, targeted US and Canadian citizens by posing as policemen and committing cyber fraud. They had recruited 62 people to work in the call centre. During the search, CBI recovered 44 laptops, 71 mobile phones and other incriminating digital evidence for examination and found transactions amounting to around 5,000 USDT cryptocurrency (Rs 5 lakhs) and 2,000 Canadian dollar worth gift vouchers (Rs 1.3 lakh). Illegal wildlife trade busted from Crawford Market, man arrested
Navi Mumbai: A joint operation by the Wildlife Department Thane, Forest Department Thane, Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB), Patrol Squads Thane, along with Wildlife Mumbai and the Wildlife Welfare Association, seized 226 protected animals from Crawford Market, Mumbai, on Aug 8. The authorities confiscated 10 Alexandrine Parrots, 112 Ringneck Rose-ringed Parakeets (11 of which were found dead), 67 Indian Star Turtles, 10 Indian Tent Turtles, 16 Indian Roofed Turtles, 10 Indian I Turtles, and one Indian Softshell. During the operation, the squad arrested Mukhtar Shaikh from Gala number 51 of Mahatma Phule Mandi, Crawford Market. Another accused, Rajan Khan, fled the scene and is currently the target of a manhunt. In May this year, Rajan Khan and co-accused Monu Khan were arrested from the same location with four star turtles during a previous raid but were later granted bail, said Shilpa Shigwan, Range Forest Officer. Bengaluru: Two armed muggers struck a senior official of the Central Silk Technological Research Institute (CSTRI) at Basavanagudi and stabbed him multiple times when he resisted their attempt to rob him of his valuables. Alween William Minz (43), an assistant director at the institute, was pushing his broken-down scooter to his staff quarters when he was attacked near Sri Rama Temple, just 200 metres from his home, on the night of August 7. Around 11pm, the watchman of the quarters informed Minz's wife that her injured husband was at the main gates. She rushed Minz, who was bleeding profusely from the chest and not in a condition to talk, to a private hospital, where he was treated and later discharged Saturday.
