Sustainable Farming Boost: Oil Palm Saplings Planted in Ryalampadu
Gadwal: In a bid to promote sustainable agriculture and improve farmer livelihoods, Jogulamba Gadwal Additional Collector Narsinga Rao stated that oil palm cultivation could become a reliable long-term income source for farmers. His remarks came during a plantation program held in Ryalampadu village of Dharur Mandal on Tuesday. The event was organized under the guidance of the Horticulture Department, where the Additional Collector actively participated by planting oil palm saplings himself, officially inaugurating the campaign. Oil Palm: A Sustainable and Profitable Crop Addressing the gathered farmers and villagers, Narsinga Rao emphasized the economic and agricultural benefits of oil palm farming. He explained that oil palm acts as a permanent investment crop, yielding income for several years after a single planting. He also noted that oil palm requires relatively low water usage, making it particularly suitable for water-scarce regions like parts of Telangana. He added that government incentive schemes are further enhancing the profitability of oil palm cultivation, encouraging more farmers to adopt this crop for better financial security. Review of Mango Plantation under Employment Guarantee Scheme Following the oil palm event, the Additional Collector also inspected a mango orchard that was planted under the MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) scheme. During the inspection, he reviewed various aspects including plant growth, maintenance, and water supply, and provided specific instructions and recommendations to improve the overall management of the plantation. Tirupati to take up mega plantation drive on June 5
Tirupati: To mark World Environment Day on June 5, a mega plantation drive aiming to plant five lakh saplings across the Tirupati district will be undertaken. District Collector Dr S Venkateswar instructed all concerned departments to coordinate effectively for the successful execution of the programme. In preparation for the event, the Collector held a Zoom conference with Forest Officer Vivek, DWMA PD Srinivasa Prasad, DPO Suseela Devi, and other officials. During the meeting, he underlined the importance of the event and gave several directions to ensure proper implementation. The Collector said this year's World Environment Day would be observed under the theme 'Solutions to Plastic Pollution – Our Land, Our Future', as part of the Mission Haritha Andhra Pradesh – Vanam Manam campaign. He directed officials to ensure that planting pits are dug in all mandals and municipal areas ahead of the plantation drive. Highlighting the crucial role of trees in protecting the environment, the Collector urged everyone to participate by planting saplings and ensuring their survival. He directed the Forest Department to prepare detailed plans for tree planting and other related activities, aligning with the set targets for the occasion. Further, he instructed that arrangements be made under the MGNREGS (Employment Guarantee Scheme) to plant saplings along government land, particularly on both sides of roads. Special focus should also be placed on promoting orchards. Municipal Commissioners and MPDOs were asked to ensure proper coordination for the success of the programme. Referring to the Chandragiri constituency, particularly Chinnagottigallu and Yerravaripalem mandals where elephant movement is frequent, cultivating lemon orchards, which are generally avoided by elephants, was suggested.

SKM, trade unions stage dharna against Centre's ‘oligarchy-promoting' policies
Hyderabad: The Kisan Morcha on Tuesday called upon the working class to unitedly fight until the central government withdraws its pro-corporate policies. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) state conveners T Sagar, Pashya Padma, trade union joint action committee leaders Paladugu Bhaskar, Venkatesh, Suryam, Y Srinivas, Chandra Shekhar, and Public Sector Employees Federation secretary Nageswara Rao led a dharna held in front of the Central Labour Commissioner's office on Tuesday. 'We are organising a dharna in front of the Central Labour Commissioner's office as part of the nationwide protests being organised on Tuesday,' they said. The protesters demanded that the four labour codes be repealed, the minimum wage for workers be fixed at 26,000, the 8-hour work schedule be continued, and that public sector enterprises not be tied to private corporate companies. They demanded that the new agricultural market draft be withdrawn, that a law be made to purchase at support prices by adding 50 percent to C2, that farmer loans be canceled, that a comprehensive law be made to protect tenant farmers, that the Indo-American Free Trade Agreement be rejected, that the Employment Guarantee Scheme be increased to 200 days and the daily wage to Rs 600, the Electricity Amendment Act be repealed. They demanded that a minimum support price be allocated and purchased for the crops grown by farmers. J Venkatesh, Eswar Rao, Srikanth Kurapati Ramesh (CITU), M Shobhan, Prabhulingam (Farmers Association), SL Padma, Anuradha (IFTU), Narasimha, Yadagiri (AITUC) and others participated in the protest.

Officials told to focus on ‘Viksit Bapatla'
Bapatla: Chairman of the 20-point programme implementation Lanka Dinakar told the officials to take measures to enhance employment and livelihood opportunities in agriculture, food, handloom, tourism, and service sectors to make Bapatla a part of Swarnandhra and contribute to Viksit Bharat. He conducted a review in Bapatla district on the progress of centrally- sponsored schemes, project implementation and issues related to infrastructure, in coordination with District Collector J Venkata Murali. The Bapatla Parliament Member Tenneti Krishna Prasad and officials from various departments attended the review. The review was held with the aim of achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's goal of Swarnandhra 2047. The action plan is to overcome existing challenges in the district through the efforts of the officials present to successfully transform Bapatla into a 'Viksit Bapatla District.' The review covered the implementation of schemes such as the Employment Guarantee Scheme (material component), irregularities between 2019-24, and current progress; the Jal Jeevan Mission aimed at providing safe drinking water to every household in every village; Gramin Sadak Yojana, Lakhpati Didi, Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, PM Suryaghar, KUSUM, PM Awas Yojana, PM Vishwakarma Yojana, PM SVANidhi, and other centrally sponsored schemes, along with tourism sector development and other related matters, discussed with the district collector and officials.

17 mandals in Prakasam face drought-like conditions
Ongole: Prakasam district in-charge minister and state revenue and endowments minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy participated in the District Development Review Committee meeting held at the Collectorate here on Monday, Speaking at the meeting , he said that the primary focus of the government is ensuring that welfare benefits reach every eligible citizen, particularly those in the most vulnerable sections of society. The DDRC meeting, which brought together top government officials, local legislators, and district administrators, revealed that 17 mandals in the district are currently experiencing drought-like conditions. The public representatives from various places urged the government to address the increasing demand for drinking water immediately. Key discussions in the meeting focused on the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission, with Minister Anam Ramanaraya Reddy highlighting that the central government has extended the programme until 2028. The administration announced it is fast-tracking water management strategies to prevent potential water crises during the summer months. In other issues, the minister highlighted the government's commitment to employment generation, particularly through the Employment Guarantee Scheme. He said that the government is committed to providing jobs to unemployed individuals in poor communities and instructed officials to expedite ongoing work projects. The potential involvement of the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) was explored as a means to generate new revenue streams for urban local bodies by utilising vacant lands. Regarding agriculture, the minister promised support to local farmers. Specific discussions were planned regarding challenges faced by tobacco farmers in the region, underscoring the government's approach to addressing sector-specific agricultural concerns. Social Welfare Minister Dr Dola Sri Bala Veeranjaneyulu, District Collector A Thameem Ansariya, Ongole MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, ZP Chairperson Buchepalli Venkayamma, MLC Thumati Madhava Rao, MLAs, chairmen of various corporations, and other public representatives, officials participated in the meeting.
