Mia Sara, 57, starred with Tom Cruise then was in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, see her now in rare snaps
Mia Sara was a huge movie star in the 1980s. The exotic-looking actress made her big-screen debut opposite Tom Cruise in the fantasy unicorn-seeking adventure Legend in 1985. Then one year later - at the age of 18 - this siren landed a major role in an iconic high school comedy, 1986's Ferris Bueller's Day Off, starring Matthew Broderick. The 57-year-old Hollywood stalwart has continued to work but has rarely been seen. On Monday evening the formerly dark-haired star hit her first red carpet in many years for the premiere of her new movie. She was at The Life Of Chuck screening at Hollywood Legion Theater in Los Angeles with Star Wars veteran Mark Hamill. Born Mia Sarapochiello in Brooklyn, New York, she landed her big break aged 16 with the 1985 fantasy film Legend starring her as a princess and Cruise as a man from the woods. The movie was anchored by Hollywood heavyweights - not just Tom but also director Ridley Scott - and yet turned out to be a flop at the box office. However, one year later, Mia became recognizable all over the country as Sloane Peterson, the girlfriend of mischievous high school senior Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick). Ferris gets his famous day off by pretending to be sick, and manages to get Sloane to join him by feeding the school the fake story that her grandmother has died. Upon its release, Ferris Bueller's Day Off became a thunderous box office success and remains one of the best-loved high school comedies to emerge from Hollywood. Shortly after the movie came out, Mia showered praise on both Cruise and Matthew Broderick, whom she noted 'had much more experience' than she did. 'Tom was dedicated and I learned a lot of good work habits from him. And I respected Matt because I had seen him on Broadway. He was one of my favorites,' she told UPI. In the 1990s she featured in such movies as the Melanie Griffith drama A Stranger Among Us - directed by Sidney Lumet of 12 Angry Men fame - as well as the smash hit Jean-Claude Van Damme action movie Timecop. She continued acting on TV Programs like CSI: NY and movies like Dorothy & The Witches of Oz until 2013, when she took a hiatus that ultimately lasted longer than a decade. As early as 2010, she had remarked that she was 'mostly retired' as she had become a 'mother with a really noisy, difficult house to maintain!' The New York native also noted: 'I'm a poet, so for the last couple of years that's what I've been focusing on,' in an interview with Total Film. Mia now has a daughter named Amelia, 20, by her second and current husband Brian Henson, who is the son of The Muppets creator Jim Henson. She also has a 28-year-old son called Dashiell by her first husband Jason Connery, whose father was none other than James Bond legend Sean Connery. After many years away from the movies, she is back with The Life Of Chuck. Mia features amid a star-studded cast including Tom Hiddleston, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Hamill, Jacob Tremblay, Karen Gillan and Nick Offerman. The movie earned a warm response from the critics when it premiered in September at the Toronto International Film Festival, and will be out in theaters soon.

Pierce Brosnan reveals his favourite pick for James Bond
Former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan has thrown his weight behind an actor for the role (Picture: Getty/Rex) Pierce Brosnan has given an indication as to who his pick for the next James Bond is, calling the actor 'wonderful'. The 72-year-old star, who held 007's licence to kill from 1995's GoldenEye to 2002's Die Another Day – making four films in total as the suave spy – was initially reluctant to say. 'I have no picks. I shall leave it open to the powers that be,' he initially began, adding: 'It's a very exciting moment in the history of James Bond. Now that Barbara [Broccoli] and Michael [G Wilson] have relinquished the reins of it.' However, when The Hollywood Reporter asked how his MobLand co-star Tom Hardy could do in the role, Brosnan laughingly changed his tune. 'Oh! Tom would be wonderful,' he agreed. 'There's so many great actors out there who could portray this character. I have no idea who, I have no idea. I wish whoever it is great success.' While the 007 actor is careful not to pick favourites, he couldn't help but back his co-star Tom Hardy as a contender (Picture: Getty) The Bond franchise is now under the full creative control of Amazon MGM Studios, after the Broccoli family, its long-term producers through parent studio Eon, ceded that power earlier this year. Amazon had previously acquired the rights to the franchise through Eon, founded in 1961, when it bought MGM in 2022 for $8.45billion (£6.24bn). But Broccoli and Wilson retained final say on key production issues such as casting until February, when it's thought Amazon paid over $1billion (£739.3million) to buy those rights from them. Venom star Hardy, 47, has long been a favourite candidate for the coveted role of Bond in fans' eyes. The pair star together in Paramount Plus gangster series MobLand (Picture: Getty) As well as routinely featuring in betting companies' odds, he sparked a wave of support once more last summer, when Venom: The Last Dance's trailer showed him suited up in black tie, adjusting his cuff as he walked – a very Craig-era Bond thing to do. 'Tom Hardy in a tux is just teasing us for his supposed James Bond gig… man what an actor,' tweeted fan Sandra on X at the time, while Ally Keyoni was more insistent in her choice, writing: 'CAST TOM HARDY AS JAMES BOND RN.' Brosnan has been cautious of saying too much in this era of change for his beloved character, but he did previously suggest that he could be interested in returning to the role himself as a 'romantic notion'. However, he added to GQ that he felt it 'was best left to another man, really. Fresh blood'. Brosnan, now 72, played Bond for four films from 1995 to 2002 (Picture:) Hardy, 47, has always had a lot of support for the role – and while previous producers were looking for someone in their 30s, it could be different with Amazon in control (Picture: EPA-EFE/Rex/Shutterstock) In MobLand, Hardy plays Harry De Souza, a fixer for Harrigan crime family, led by Conrad (Brosnan) and Maeve (Dame Helen Mirren). The series is co-directed and executive produced by Guy Ritchie. Despite being Irish himself, Brosnan has faced criticism over his accent in the show, which has been branded 'offensive' by some. Having his say on the backlash, the Drogheda-native previously told Radio Times: 'My own accent is very soft, Conrad's accent is a million miles away from me.' Shedding light on his inspiration for the accent, Pierce explained that it was taken from someone suggested by his dialect coach. 'I told him that I needed a Kerry accent, so he gave me the name of a man and I googled the guy and that was it,' he added. Irish actor Brosnan, famously a non-English pick for 007, recently came under fire for his Irish accent in MobLand (Picture: Paramount Plus) 'It was a Kerry accent and so, I just gave it full tilt.' Brosnan will next be seen in Netflix's eagerly anticipated adaptation of Richard Osman's novel The Thursday Murder Club, again opposite Dame Helen, as well as Sir Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie. The quartet star as retirees who spend their free time solving cold cases for the pure fun of it, but things take a murderous turn when they are thrown into a real crime on their doorstep. Two major games to stop working on some PlayStation and Xbox consoles – it'll cost fans a fortune to keep playing
There are a number of reasons why games lose support for older consoles, such as development costs and hardware limitations GAME OVER Two major games to stop working on some PlayStation and Xbox consoles – it'll cost fans a fortune to keep playing TWO popular games are winding down this month as they lose compatibility with older consoles. To keep playing, fans will have to upgrade to the newer PlayStation 5 and Xbox X|S - costing as much as £499. 2 Black Desert Online will end support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One after nearly a decade Credit: Pearl Abyss 2 The First Descendant is also ending support for last-generation consoles, less than a year after it first launched Credit: Nexon Black Desert Online and The First Descendant are the latest titles to ditch support for the aging PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. After nearly a decade of service, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the Black Desert Online will be shutting down on 26 June. The creators at developer Pearl Abyss said they were shifting focus to the existing PC version of the game and the all-new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions. In-game purchases for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players are set to be restricted. Gamers will be able to keep playing - and pick up from where they left off - only if they upgrade to a new console. When Black Desert Online is eventually made available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S after maintenance, players on the respective PS and Xbox platforms may continue with all their saved data, its creators said. All game data, including purchased items and in-game currency will be stored and accessible on those platforms. The First Descendant is also ending support for last-generation consoles, less than a year after it first launched. The title is set to be discontinued on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One from 19 June, just two weeks before the game's first anniversary. The Sun tries new Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart before it's out The creators at Nexon Games pinned the decision on the "increased scale" of the game. The developer added that the team was spending "a lot of effort and difficulty maintaining the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One builds," prior to the shutdown. The First Descendant has been on a downward trajectory for the last few months as its player count dwindles, according to The Gamer. There are a number of reasons why games lose support for older consoles, such as development costs and hardware limitations. Older hardware can't keep up with modern game features, making it harder to deliver new content smoothly on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
