‘Historic moment for country': Rajnath hails passing out of first batch of women cadets from NDA
DEFENCE MINISTER Rajnath Singh on Thursday hailed the passing out of the first batch of 17 women cadets from the National Defence Academy as a 'historic moment for the country.' Singh was delivering the 'Sandesh to Soldiers' aired from Akashvani on the eve of the 79th Independence Day. According to a press statement from the Ministry of Defence, Singh said in his speech that Operation Sindoor emerged as a balanced military response amid the asymmetric warfare being witnessed across the globe. 'India successfully utilised cutting-edge apparatus such as drone war, layered air defence, electronic warfare and network-centric operation, and proved that India is no longer dependent on foreign technology.' The MoD press statement quoted him as saying. 'For the first time, 17 women cadets successfully passed out from NDA, Khadakwasla. It was a historic moment for the country. Two brave women officers of the Indian Navy, Lt Cdr Dilna K and Lt Cdr Roopa, made the country proud by completing a difficult sea journey of 25,600 nautical miles under Navika Sagar Parikrama-II. It was a testament to the strength of our naval forces. An all-women tri-service sailing team created history by returning home from Seychelles after completing an international sea voyage of 1,800 nautical miles. It was the first international open sea sailing voyage undertaken by the women of Indian Armed Forces. For our women, no challenge is impossible. They will always be at the forefront in protecting and honoring the country,' said Singh. An order was passed by the Supreme Court in August 2021 while hearing a plea seeking directions to allow eligible women to sit for the NDA and Naval Academy examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The first batch of the women cadets joined the NDA in July-August 2022 as part of its 148th course. At the time of the entry of the women cadets in 2022, the NDA had said, 'With minimum changes to the existing curriculum, the training in academics, drill, outdoor training, etc. will be conducted in an absolutely gender-neutral manner.' The NDA said a dedicated support staff has been provided for facilitating the training of women cadets. A majority of training activities are conducted jointly keeping their employability in mind, wherein the women officers are required to command the troops. Similar training methodology already exists in other Pre-Commissioning Training Academics like OTA Chennai, INA Ezhimala and AFA Hyderabad. One of the most important milestones in the assimilation of the female cadets at the NDA came when they were moved out a separate accommodation and integrated with the existing 18 squadrons of the academy, in the sixth and final term of the first course. After this, the female cadets allotted to each of the squadrons started undertaking their full day training activities with the male cadets. While the first batch of 17 women cadets passed out of the academy in May this year as part of the 148th course, the second batch is set to pass out later this year as part of the 149th course.

Tejashwi Yadav accuses Bihar CM's aide and NDA MP of holding multiple voter IDs
Patna, Aug 14 (UNI) RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has levelled serious allegations at the Election Commission of India (ECI), accusing NDA's Dinesh Singh and Veena Devi of possessing duplicate Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) and being registered in multiple constituencies. The war of words between the ruling BJP and the Opposition on the large-scale irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar has heated up ahead of Bihar Assembly polls. The RJD leader slammed the ECI, alleging "fraud committed in collusion between the Election Commission, the BJP, and the NDA". He questioned the ECI's impartiality, asking if it has become a tool for the BJP to win. He alleged that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's close associate MLC Dinesh Singh and his wife Veena Devi, an NDA MP from Vaishali, also have multiple voter IDs. In a post on social media platforms 'X', Tejashwi stated that Dinesh Singh, a long-time JD(U)legislator, possesses two different EPIC IDs REM0933267 and UTO1134527 registered in two different Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies. Similarly, his wife, Veena Devi, an NDA MP from Vaishali, also possesses two different EPIC IDs UTO1134543 and GSB1037894 issued by two different district administrations and registered in two different Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies. In his attempt to prove large-scale irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, the RJD leader has been revealing the names of top NDA leaders who possess more than one voter ID. Earlier, he alleged that Bihar Deputy CM Vijay Sinha's name is listed in two different constituencies. Later, he raised the issue of two voter IDs issued to senior BJP leader and Muzaffarpur Mayor Nirmala Devi and her two brothers-in-law. He said that Dinesh Singh and Veena Devi's names registered as voters in two different Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies indicates that they must have filed two different forms during the voter list revision, or enumeration forms were filed, on their behalf, by the BLOs appointed by the Election Commission. He said that the onus is on the Election Commission to prove how the two leaders got two different voter IDs. He asked, 'Did the Election Commission allow Dinesh Singh to have two voter IDs because of his closeness to the Chief Minister? Is this not a case of fraud, manipulation, and collusion by the Election Commission to ensure a victory for the BJP-led NDA? 'Will the Election Commission accept its irregularities and mistakes in the SIR? Will the Election Commission issue notices to Dinesh Singh and Veena Devi from two different places?' he asked further. UNI IM MI AAB

I don't see any reason for me to contest outside of NDA: Chirag Paswan
Defending his recent remarks criticising the law and order situation in Bihar, Union Minister and Lok Jan Shakti Party (Ram Vilas) president Chirag Paswan said that he was not 'rebelling' against the JD(U)-led State government or against the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), but was only airing his concerns, since his party was only supporting the government from outside and not part of it. 'It was my concern and a genuine concern for my State Bihar and Biharis,' he told The Hindu in an interview. In the wake of the gang-rape of a Bihar Military Police aspirant in Bodh Gaya on July 24, 2025, and the recent spate of crimes in Bihar ahead of the forthcoming Assembly election, he said on July 26, 2025 that he regretted supporting the government in Bihar. 'I am not being rebellious… I am only raising questions. I want accountability. It is the government's responsibility to hold someone accountable..,' he further added. He explained why he felt the need to go to the public by saying that unlike in the centre, where he is part of the Union Cabinet, his party is not part of the Bihar government. He conceded that remarks such as the ones he made, makes the Opposition 'happy' and helps them set the narrative given his history with the JD(U). Mr. Paswan, while being in the NDA, had fought 2020 Assembly polls against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the JD(U). 'I have nothing against the government. And I believe in our Chief Minister,' he said, crediting him for the progress in the State. 'He (Nitish) is called the Sushasan Babu, because he dealt with the 'jungle raj' and brought it under control. I believe that he will be able to set it right again.' He also rejected all speculations of him repeating his 2020 gambit of contesting the Assembly polls outside of the alliance. Claiming that the NDA is a 'solid' coalition and will have historic win, Mr. Paswan said, 'I don't see any reason for me to contest outside of the alliance. Until and unless like 2020 I am not pushed to a corner which I don't see happening because all my concerns are getting addressed and acknowledged.' The conversation on seat division between the allies Mr. Paswan said has not yet begun in the alliance but said he expects it to be done amicably. He also dismissed the rumours on Mr. Kumar's declining mental acuity. 'I have interacted with him multiple times and not even once I have felt that you know he is not fit,' he said, calling it a manufactured narrative by the opposition. In the same breath he added, 'Eventually, I think it is the collective responsibility of the whole alliance to take the state forward and which we are doing very nicely.' Attacking the Opposition for their stance on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, he said that the Opposition's demand for a debate on the issue in Parliament and government's insistence on not holding it, had paralysed the Parliament. 'It's not a decision taken by the government of India. Where do we stand? This was a decision taken by an independent constitutional body, the Election Commission. 'Which Ministry does the Election Commission fall under? If we do hold a debate, which Ministry will reply to it? If the Opposition can answer this simple question then I would personally go speak to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urge him to hold the debate,' he said. On his party's efforts to cast the net wider beyond the Paswan voters that they traditionally cater to, to building themselves up as a bahujan party, reaching out to the OBC voters too, Mr. Paswan asserted that his fight is for all 14 crore Biharis irrespective of their caste. 'I am an educated young guy of the 21st century who doesn't believe in this caste system, but then this is a sad reality especially in my State.' Hitting out at the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), main Opposition party in the State, he said that in contrast to the RJD's MY-voteback (Muslim-Yadav), the LJP(RV)'s MY formulation is — M for Mahila (women) and Y for Yuva (youth). 'They (RJD) are both communal and casteist,' Mr. Paswan claimed.
