Motorcyclist, 23, dies in accident involving lorry near Woodlands Checkpoint, Singapore News
In response to AsiaOne's queries, the police said they were alerted to the accident along the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) towards SLE at 6.50am.
A 23-year-old male motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and his 23-year-old male pillion rider was unconscious when taken to the hospital.
Videos posted to social media show a blue police tent covering the body on the left-most lane of the expressway, with a trail of blood on the road.
A lorry is seen stationary on the road shoulder.
The police said a 39-year-old male lorry driver is assisting with investigations, which are ongoing.
In a Facebook post at 8.40am, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority said there is "very heavy traffic congestion" after Woodlands Checkpoint on the BKE due to the accident just before SLE Exit.
It advised arriving travellers to expect delays and co-operate with officers directing traffic on site.

A male car driver, 43 , is assisting with investigations, police said. This is the latest accident involving pedestrians caught in dangerous situations while crossing the road. On July 29, a boy knocked into a taxi after dashing across a pedestrian crossing at the junction of Yio Chu Kang Road and Hougang Avenue 9 . At the time of the accident, the red man pedestrian signal was showing. On July 23, a nine-year-old boy was taken conscious to the hospital after an accident involving a car at the junction of Moulmein Road and Sinaran Drive . A Facebook video shows the unaccompanied boy running across the road although an overhead bridge is nearby.

K-drama regular Song Young-kyu found dead following drink-driving incident, Entertainment News
South Korean actor Song Young-kyu has died at 55 years old. He was found inside a parked vehicle in Cheoin District, Yongin, Gyeonggi Province in South Korea around 8am (7am Singapore time) today (Aug 4). According to media reports, a woman discovered his body and notified the police, who are currently investigating the death. There are reportedly no signs of foul play. Young-kyu was arrested in June for drink-driving. Police had said his blood alcohol concentration was at a level that would result in licence revocation (above 0.08 per cent). The case was sent to the prosecutors and awaiting indictment. When the news went public in July, he was dropped from the play Shakespeare in Love as well as upcoming dramas The Defects and The Winning Try. An alleged close friend of Young-kyu told Osen he had been stressed over personal matters outside of the drink-driving incident, adding he had probably turned to alcohol to 'forget the pain'. According to the friend, who met him last year, he had been living apart from his wife and two daughters. Over $136k in fines: Nearly 1,500 Singapore drivers caught under Malaysia's VEP scheme since July 1, Singapore News
Malaysia's Road Safety Department (JPJ) has issued 1,489 summon notices amounting to RM445,800 (S$136,000) to Singaporean drivers entering Malaysia without a working Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP). The VEP scheme was fully enforced slightly more than a month ago. In a Facebook post on Monday (August 4), the department said that many as 14,379 Singaporean vehicles were checked outside the Sultan Iskandar Building Complex (BSI), Sultan Abu Bakar Complex and surrounding areas of Johor Bahru. This was part of an enforcement operation held from July 1 and August 2 said JPJ Senior Director of Enforcement Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan at a media conference in BSI. The drivers who were issued fines made up around 10 per cent of the 14,379 vehicles which were checked between that period. Kifli added that most of the motorists who were fined had failed to install and activate the VEP RFID tag, according to JPJ Johor. "One of the common excuses given was that they believed the Malaysian government had not yet begun enforcement and it was still in the advocacy stage," he said, reported Bernama. "Of all the summonses issued, only one individual initially refused to co-operate. However, when enforcement officers wanted to seize the vehicle, the person eventually complied, settled the summons, and proceeded to register for the VEP." Nearly 90 per cent of Singapore-registered private vehicles have already obtained the VEP by installing and activating the RFID tag, Kifli added. As of July 31, a total of 277,930 RFID tags had been issued to Singaporean vehicle owners, reported Bernama. Foreign-registered vehicles entering Malaysia without a valid VEP risk a RM300 fine, as stipulated under Section 66H(7) of Malaysia's Road Transport Act 1987. [[nid:720464]]
