Elizabeth Taylor's 14-karat Gold Purse, Art Deco Diamond Brooch, Ruby Necklace and More Pieces From Her Jewelry Collection Up for Auction
Elizabeth Taylor collected some impressive jewelry pieces over the course of her life. The late Oscar-winning actress, who died in 2011, owned a bevy of jewels from emeralds to diamonds, rubies and many more.
Now, pieces from the actress' collection are up for auction as part of Julien's Bold Luxury: The Limelight Edit auction, which will take place March 27 at the Peninsula Beverly Hills beginning at 10 a.m. PT.

Below, WWD breaks down some of the highlights from the treasure trove of pieces previously owned by Elizabeth Taylor.
Taylor's ruby, diamond and gold necklace and earring set features a circular-cut diamond with a marquise-cut ruby and a gold lion's face. The lion's face holds in its teeth a circular-cut diamond hoop. The necklace also features a four-strand ruby bead choker, joined by a circular-cut diamond and gold clasp. The earrings, featuring the same gold lion motif, feature detachable ruby tassels. The set's value is estimated between $200,000 to $300,000.
The Art Deco emerald and diamond brooch dates back to roughly 1935. As described by Julien's, the piece features a pavé-set scroll bordered with old mine-cut and European-cut diamonds and emeralds framed in an open-work of the scroll; each emerald varies in cut and size. The stones are mounted in platinum and gold. The brooch's value is estimated between $100,000 and $200,000.
Taylor was seen with her gold and diamond evening purse in December 1964, when the actress and her then-husband, Richard Burton, attended the Lido premiere, which was a burlesque show, in Paris, per Julien's. The handbag features a wedge-shaped design with a woven gold basket. The bag also features a diamond 'Liz' plaque. The bag's value is estimated between $100,000 and $200,000.
Malcolm Forbes gifted Taylor this glittering diamond brooch. The piece features pear-shaped diamond clusters and two scroll-like bands of baguette-cut diamonds. The brooch's estimated value is between $20,000 and $30,000.
Taylor's diamond and gold Star of David pendant necklace was designed by Theo Fennell. Taylor converted to Judaism in 1959, following the death of her husband Michael Todd and upon her marriage to Eddie Fisher. The necklace is described by Julien's as a detachable swivel pendant with circular-cut diamond and gold Star of David, which is mounted in 18-karat yellow and white gold. The pendant hangs on a rope-style chain. The necklace's value is estimated between $20,000 and $30,000.

How groundbreaking gay author Edmund White paved the way for other writers
NEW YORK -- Andrew Sean Greer, a Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist, remembers the first time he read Edmund White. It was the summer of 1989, he was beginning his second year at Brown University and he had just come out. Having learned that White would be teaching at Brown, he found a copy of White's celebrated coming-of-age novel, 'A Boy's Own Story.' 'I'd never read anything like it — nobody had — and what strikes me looking back is the lack of shame or self-hatred or misery that imbued so many other gay male works of fiction of that time,' says Greer, whose 'Less' won the Pulitzer for fiction in 2018. "I, of course, did not know then I was reading a truly important literary work. All I knew is I wanted to read more. 'Reading was all we had in those days — the private, unshared experience that could help you explore your private life," he said. "Ed invented so many of us." White, a pioneer of contemporary gay literature, died this week at age 85. He left behind such widely read works as 'A Boy's Own Story' and 'The Beautiful Room Is Empty' and a gift to countless younger writers: Validation of their lives, the discovery of themselves through the stories of others. Greer and other authors speak of White's work as more than just an influence, but as a rite of passage: "How a queer man might begin to question all of the deeply held, deeply religious, deeply American assumptions about desire, love, and sex — who is entitled to have it, how it must be had, what it looks like,' says Robert Jones Jr., whose novel above love between two enslaved men, ' The Prophets,' was a National Book Award finalist in 2021. Jones remembers being a teenager in the 1980s when he read 'A Boy's Own Story." He found the book at a store in a gay neighborhood in Manhattan's Greenwich Village, 'the safest place for a person to be openly queer in New York City,' he said. 'It was a scary time for me because all the news stories about queer men revolved around AIDS and dying, and how the disease was the Christian god's vengeance against the 'sin of homosexuality,'' Jones added. 'It was the first time that I had come across any literature that confirmed that queer men have a childhood; that my own desires were not, in fact, some aberration, but were natural; and that any suffering and loneliness I was experiencing wasn't divine retribution, but was the intention of a human-made bigotry that could be, if I had the courage and the community, confronted and perhaps defeated," he said. Starting in the 1970s, White published more than 25 books, including novels, memoirs, plays, biographies and 'The Joy of Gay Sex,' a response to the 1970s bestseller 'The Joy of Sex." He held the rare stature for a living author of having a prize named for him, the Edmund White Award for Debut Fiction, as presented by the Publishing Triangle. 'White was very supportive of young writers, encouraging them to explore and expand new and individual visions,' said Carol Rosenfeld, chair of the Triangle. The award was 'one way of honoring that support.' Winners such the prize was founded, in 2006, have included 'The Prophets,' Myriam Gurba 's 'Dahlia Season' and Joe Okonkwo's 'Jazz Moon.' Earlier this year, the award was given to Jiaming Tang's ' Cinema Love,' a story of gay men in rural China. Tang remembered reading 'A Boy's Own Story' in his early 20s, and said that both the book and White were 'essential touchpoints in my gay coming-of-age.' 'He writes with intimate specificity and humor, and no other writer has captured the electric excitement and crushing loneliness that gay men experience as they come of age,' Tang said. "He's a towering figure. There'd be no gay literature in America without Edmund White.'

Mia Goth is joining the new Ryan Gosling-powered Star Wars installment, Starfighter, taking over the role originally offered Anora Oscar winner Mikey Madison. The casting coup is the latest scrap of news about the anticipated project, which will be helmed by Shawn Levy and which had its coming-out party at Star Wars Celebration in April 2025. Levy says that Starfighter will cover new territory in franchise storytelling and won't feature any of the major characters from prior releases. 'This is a standalone. It's not a prequel, not sequel. It's a new adventure. It's set in a period of time that we haven't seen explored yet,' the filmmaker said. 'The reality is that this script is just so good. It has such a great story with great and original characters,' said Gosling. 'It's filled with so much heart and adventure, and there just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn.' Starfighter the movie is not related to the 2001 video game of the same name from LucasArts that was set on the planet of Naboo during the time period of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Starfighter takes place about five years after the events of the last Star Wars feature, 2019's Rise of Skywalker. According to Variety, Mikey Madison was initially offered the female lead one of the baddies hunting down Gosling and his young sidekick. Madion reportedly turned down the role due to a pay dispute. It was confirmed that Mia Goth had accepted the role in June 2025. The news was initially reported by The InSneider. No other casting has been announced. Starfighter is slated to begin production in fall 2025 in England. Starfighter is scheduled to open May 28, 2027.
