Looking for the perfect Valentine's gift for your ex? Crime Stoppers has you covered

ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- Looking for the perfect Valentine's gift for your ex? Both Odessa and Midland Crime Stoppers have you covered; though, it might not be the traditional roses and chocolates. This Valentine's Day, they're offering a sweet deal for anyone who knows of a former lover or loved one with an outstanding warrant.
According to Susan Rogers, CEO of Odessa Crime Stoppers, it's all part of a lighthearted approach to tackling a serious issue.
'Every year we try to do something fun around Valentine's Day, and this time, we're playing off the idea of 'ex-lovers' who might have some warrants out there,' Rogers said. 'It's a great way to clear up those warrants and bring a little fun to the process. Plus, we've got some pretty special perks for those who make the call.'
For the Valentine's Day Weekend Special, Crime Stoppers is encouraging locals to call in anonymous tips about any ex-partners or current crushes who may have warrants. If you know where they are, Crime Stoppers will do the rest.

'We'll send a vehicle with lights to pick them up, and we'll even put those pretty platinum bracelets on them,' Rogers explained, referring to the handcuffs that'll accompany the ride to the sheriff's office. 'Then, they'll get the full VIP treatment at the jail…think glamorous mugshots and a comfy stay in a local bed and breakfast.'
With over 15,000 active warrants in Ector County, and more than 1,700 new ones filed just since the beginning of January, Crime Stoppers is hoping this special event will help clear out some of the backlog.
'There's a lot of old warrants out there, some going back to 1980,' Rogers said. 'If you think you or someone you know might have one, it's better to take care of it before you end up with a free ride to jail. We want people to handle it on their own, but we'll be here if you need to make an anonymous tip.'
And while this promotion might sound like fun and games, the need for tips is very real.

According to Rogers, the Ector County Sheriff's Office is tackling a massive number of warrants, and Crime Stoppers is there to help clear them. The Valentine's deal offers rewards for tips provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers' tip lines, like the app P3Tips or their hotline at 432-333-TIPS.
'It's all in good fun, but we're doing it to help clear some of these serious issues. If you've got an ex out there that you know has a warrant, now's your chance to give them a 'Valentine's gift' they'll never forget,' Rogers said.
The Valentine's Day special is also going on in Midland. To make your anonymous tip in Midland, submit it to Midland Crime Stoppers at 694-TIPS (8477), www.694tips.com, or the mobile app P3 TIPS. For Odessa Crime Stoppers, Call 432-333-TIPS or go to this website.
So, if you've got an ex you know is avoiding the law (and maybe you're not feeling all that generous this February), take advantage of this 'sweetheart' of a deal. Crime Stoppers' operators are standing by, ready to take your anonymous tips and make sure this Valentine's ends with something memorable- or rather, a new mugshot.
And for those who may have an outstanding warrant and want to get ahead of this Valentine's Day offer, Rogers said it is important to get it addressed before officials do it for you. Learn more by watching the video below:

Australian mushroom murder suspect denies intent to kill

An Australian woman accused of murdering three lunch guests with a toxic mushroom-laced beef Wellington denied Thursday that she intended to kill them. Erin Patterson, 50, is charged with murdering her estranged husband's parents and aunt in July 2023 by spiking the beef-and-pastry dish with death cap mushrooms. She is also accused of attempting to murder a fourth guest -- her husband's uncle -- who survived the lunch after a long stay in hospital. Patterson denies all charges in the trial, which has grabbed worldwide attention. She says the traditional English dish, which she cooked in individually sized portions, was poisoned by accident. Prosecutor Nanette Rogers concluded her cross-examination of Patterson on Thursday by suggesting she deliberately sought death cap mushrooms and put them in the beef Wellington. Patterson rejected each accusation. Rogers put it to Patterson that she intended to kill her lunch guests. Patterson replied: "Disagree." The court also heard about two mobile devices used by Patterson -- phone A, which was the main device she used, and phone B, which was activated days after the lunch. Patterson said she began using phone B when her main phone was damaged. - Missing mobile - Rogers alleged the main phone had been used to view online posts about death cap mushroom sightings near Patterson's home in the months before the fatal lunch. Patterson disagreed. While police were searching Patterson's home on August 5, 2023, her main phone lost connection to the network. Police have not located the device since. Instead, Patterson handed over phone B to authorities. That device underwent a factory reset three times in the days after the lunch, Rogers said. The prosecutor alleged that the resets were done "to conceal the true contents of phone B" and that Patterson had hidden her original phone from police because "the data on that device would incriminate you". Patterson disagreed with both statements. She has previously said phone B belonged to her son and she conducted the resets to remove his data so she could use the device. The lunch host originally invited her estranged husband Simon to join the family meal at her secluded home in the Victoria state farm village of Leongatha. But Simon turned down the invitation saying he felt uncomfortable going, the court heard earlier. The pair were long estranged but still legally married. Simon's parents Don and Gail, and his aunt Heather Wilkinson, attended the lunch. All three were dead within days. Heather's husband Ian fell gravely ill but recovered. The trial in Morwell, southeast of Melbourne, is expected to last another two weeks. lec/djw/sco

Midland man arrested for allegedly using truck to hit wife during domestic dispute

MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- A Midland man is facing a felony charge after police say he intentionally struck his wife with a vehicle during an argument Saturday morning. 61-year-old Ralph Allan Olson was arrested on June 7 and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony. His bond was set at $75,000. As of Monday, Olson remained in custody at the Midland County Detention Center. No attorney was listed for him in court records. According to an arrest affidavit, Midland Police responded to a call just after 9 a.m., near Holloway Drive, for a reported accident involving a pedestrian. Officers arrived and found the victim, identified as Olson's wife, with visible scrapes and bruises on both knees and her left arm. Olson allegedly told officers that he and his wife had been in a verbal argument earlier that morning. He said he left the home but returned a short time later and saw her walking near the curb. Olson admitted he 'sped by out of spite' following the argument and struck her with his brown Ford F-150 on the passenger side of the vehicle. The victim confirmed the couple had been arguing and said she was walking along the curb when she noticed Olson's truck approaching. She told officers she was struck by the passenger-side hood and mirror, which knocked her to the ground. Despite her injuries, she initially told police she did not want to pursue charges. However, officers reviewed security footage from a nearby residence, which reportedly showed Olson driving at a high rate of speed through the residential neighborhood and making no attempt to avoid hitting the woman until after the impact. The video also showed that the victim was walking near the curb and not obstructing the roadway. Several witnesses told police that Olson did not immediately return to the scene after the collision. Due to the totality of the evidence, including Olson's admission, video footage, and eyewitness accounts, he was placed under arrest and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. According to Midland County Detention Center's Page, Olson remains in custody as of Wednesday, June 11. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, help is available.
