Why thousands now face travel misery at popular airport
The incident, involving a Beechcraft B200 Super King Air, occurred due to landing gear problems, leading to the runway's closure from 2:40 PM until shortly before 8 PM.
Three people on board the aircraft were assessed by West Midlands Ambulance Service, with one person sustaining minor injuries.
The emergency caused significant delays for passengers, both those departing from and arriving at Birmingham, even after the runway reopened.
The Air Accidents Investigations Branch (AAIB) has launched an investigation into the incident, with a team of experts dispatched to the scene.

Have you fallen victim to the Gen Z stare?
Boomer: Morning! Gen Z: *Stares blankly* I said 'Good morning'? *Stares blankly* Are you malfunctioning? Get her an iced-matcha-whatever-it's-called, pronto. It's the Gen Z stare. Didn't you see Riley Despot's TikTok? I DMed it you. I've learnt my lesson since I opened the TikTok you sent me in Tesco and that WAP song came on top volume. Lols. Anyway, Despot's clip has 1.2 million views and describes the blank, middle-distance stare into the void in social situations. Celia Walden wrote about this in The Telegraph and I agreed with a commenter who said: 'In the 1970s and 80s we just called it gormless.' Appaz we're all at it. Walden says during a recent shopping trip, a Gen Z cashier stared at her 'unblinking and slightly unfocused for what felt like a lifetime'. When I'd stare as a kid, my mother would say: 'There's a cure for that: a slap in the face with a wet kipper.' Don't trivialise child abuse. Besides, it's lockdown's fault. Totes ruined our in-person convo skills. Of course it's Covid's fault. Nothing to do with you lot staring at phone screens like zombies for hours instead of actually interacting… Because you're always saying weird stuff! I've heard you say 'scabby-de-toilet' in conversation before. Skibidi Toilet. It's a YouTube thing, Boomer. So what conversational faux pas am I making? I low-key hate when you say 'thank you'. Goodness! I'd apologise for being polite, but that would no doubt offend you too. According to a poll by Nationwide, a fifth of Gen Zers feel uncomfortable saying 'thank you'. Dare I ask why? One 24-year-old told the Daily Mail: 'None of my mates say thanks. It's awkward, outdated and feels forced.' Is 'you' no longer an appropriate pronoun? What do I say instead? Forty-two per cent of under 25s reckon 'cheers' is better. Or a thumbs-up emoji is super-chill. I'd say that's ridiculous, but I doubt you'd thank me for it. Criiinge. Sorry. Noooo! Saying sorry is also such an ick. Sorry?! According to a writer at online mag Medium, Gen Z prefers 'authentic' ways to show feelings. 'An old-fashioned 'sorry' just doesn't cut it.' What does 'cut it'? Posting self-flagellation on your Instagram Stories and tagging the offended party? They would rather 'focus on changing their actions' and 'let their future behaviour prove their growth'. You lot are beyond hope. Hardly! I'm all for self-growth. Anyway, I have an etiquette coach now. A what? Our office hired someone to teach Gen Zs how to act politely in public. In my day that was called a 'parent'. Etiquette coach Rosalinda Randall, quoted in The Week, said Gen Zers can't make eye contact, don't interact politely and even FaceTime their friends from their desk. It's a wonder they've got any friends to FaceTime given they've got the social skills of Basil Fawlty. I start Randall's class tomorrow: 'How to ask – not demand – things from your boss'.

Chilled red pepper soup straight from Andalusia
I have always liked the idea of chilled soup. Granted, there aren't too many occasions when I crave it in the UK. It's not as if we have an Andalusian climate that calls for gazpacho on a daily basis. But, in those odd periods when it is sticky and hot and I can't quite figure out what I feel like eating, chilled soup hits the spot. My repertoire is pretty limited, rotating between my mother's excellent cucumber soup and a spin on gazpacho that I make using cashews instead of bread. So I was genuinely pleased when reader Maureen Kennedy sent in her recipe for chilled red pepper soup, given here. It's a doddle to prepare and makes clever use of that brilliant shortcut ingredient, Boursin. I should add that I also tried the soup warm, which was rather lovely, too, so don't file the recipe away once summer ends. If you are a fan of soup, hot or cold, here's a brilliant tip from another reader, Jeanette Mahon. She recommends making broth with the leftover bones from a Sunday roast chicken by popping them in the slow cooker with some vegetables. 'Let it simmer – the longer, the tastier – for a flavoursome and nutritious broth, which makes amazing soup,' she says. I couldn't agree more: homemade stock is a game-changer, particularly as so many shop-bought versions are packed with salt, artificial flavours and preservatives. 3 red peppers, £2.07; 150g Boursin Garlic & Herbs, £2.95 10g chives, £1; 1 onion, 12p METHOD Roughly chop the onion and deseed then roughly chop the red peppers. Heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a large saucepan over a medium-high heat. Fry the onions and peppers with ½ tsp salt for 5-6 minutes, until softened. Tip in 1 litre chicken or vegetable stock and bring to a simmer. Cook for 20 minutes. Transfer to a blender (or use a stick blender) and add the Boursin. Whizz until smooth, then taste and season as required. Leave the soup to cool to room temperature then chill until cold. Serve with a few chives snipped over the top.
