Kohima, Jun 21 (PTI) Along with the rest of the globe, Nagaland marked the International Day of Yoga across the state with a grand public event at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima, on Friday, drawing hundreds of participants from various departments, educational institutions, and the general public.
Speaking at the event, State Programme Officer (AYUSH) Dr Seyiekhrietuo John emphasised the significance of yoga in promoting preventive healthcare and mental well-being.
'Yoga is not tied to any religion, it is universal in nature. It is a practice that everyone can embrace for the well-being of humanity,' Dr John said.
Urging people to adopt yoga without misconceptions, he said that Ayush Mission in Nagaland is working to integrate traditional wellness systems into the mainstream healthcare system, particularly at the grassroots level.
Meanwhile, on the occasion, Nagaland Governor La Ganesan extended warm greetings and best wishes to the people of the state highlighting yoga's timeless relevance and its power to bring balance to modern life.
In his message, the governor emphasised that yoga, originating from ancient India, transcends boundaries and cultures, offering a universal path to holistic well-being, inner peace, and resilience.
Observed annually on June 21, the International Day of Yoga serves as a global reminder of the mind-body harmony that yoga promotes, he said.
'In our fast-paced modern lives, yoga is more relevant than ever. It is an important tool to combat stress, enhance physical vitality, and cultivate mental clarity,' Ganesan said.
'By integrating yoga into our lives, we not only invest in our health but also contribute to the vitality and harmony of our beautiful state,' the governor said.
He also highlighted yoga's potential to foster unity, tolerance, and collective well-being, values that resonate strongly with Naga society.

Health Minister Veena George has said that local self-governing bodies achieving Sampoorna Yoga (complete yoga integration) will receive special recognition for their efforts. This move, she said, is intended to inspire other local bodies and encourage widespread adoption of yoga practices at the grassroots level. The Minister was inaugurating the State-level International Day of Yoga celebrations online, held in Thrissur, on Saturday. The State aims to transform all panchayats, municipalities, and Corporations into fully yoga-integrated zones, with the ultimate goal of establishing Kerala as a Sampoorna Yoga State. She noted that Kerala has accorded special importance to yoga and is implementing measures to integrate it into daily life. 'As part of this effort, over 10,000 yoga clubs have already been set up across the State, and steps are under way to establish at least one yoga club in every panchayat. Provisions have also been made to train and promote yoga through AYUSH centres and wellness programmes, including yoga, have been launched in collaboration with people's health centres and community health clubs, she said. New Delhi, June 21 (UNI) From Adalaj Ki Vav in Gujarat to the Sun Temple in Konark and Red Fort in Delhi, at least 81 architectural wonders served as backdrops for mass yoga participation by people of all ages on International Day of Yoga (IDY) celebrated on Saturday. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister of Culture and Tourism embraced yoga at Mehrangarh Fort in Rajasthan's Jodhpur, while Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, participated at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Likewise, Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution participated in IYD at Group of Temples at Pattadakal, in Karnataka, while other key dignitaries were spotted performing yoga asanas at various locations across the country. In fact, as part of the celebrations, several Union Ministers joined yoga sessions at various iconic ASI-protected monuments, reinforcing the significance of yoga as a national movement which was led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam, said a statement from the Union Culture Ministry here. It said that in a nationwide grand celebration of International Day of Yoga, 81 heritage sites under the aegis of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) hosted yoga sessions, organised in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Ayush on the D Day. The entry was free of cost to visitors to encourage their participation. This year's theme, 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health', aims to promote the importance of holistic health and well-being globally. The celebrations were marked by the participation of people from all walks of life, including students, professionals, and families, all coming together to practice yoga and experience its health benefits.
