He is a much loved brother to Mhairi and Alan, and caring uncle to Rhys, Eryn, Owen and Jack, he'll be sorely missed by us all".Sgt Dave Cooper from the road policing unit in Elgin said: "Our thoughts are with Alistair's family and friends at this difficult time."Our inquiries are ongoing, and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash or the vehicles prior to the crash and who hasn't already spoken to officers to contact us."I would also ask anyone who was in the area and may have dashcam footage which could assist to get in touch."

Man who stepped in front of train with toddler jailed for ten years
A suicidal man who attempted to murder a two-year-old boy by walking in front of a train while carrying the child has been jailed for ten years. Frederick Danquah, 28, stepped in front of a train after being told that his former partner had entered into a new relationship. Both the child, who cannot be named for legal reasons, and Danquah were injured in the incident at Garrowhill railway station in Glasgow's east end in July 2023. The court heard that earlier that day, Danquah had tried to climb over a footbridge above the M8 in Glasgow with the child on his shoulders, after arguing with his former partner who told him she had 'moved on'. After posting a suicidal message on Facebook, he prepared a 'contingency plan' including a note with contact details, the court heard. Danquah collected the child from relatives and took him into Glasgow city centre and met his sister's partner, before he attempted to climb the bridge over the M8. He was spotted by police but 'reassured them', the court heard, before he travelled to Garrowhill station with the child and made an attempt on their lives. British Transport Police said Danquah sustained a broken jaw and fracture to his neck, while the child suffered cuts and bruises but no serious injuries, and the child was discharged from hospital two days later. You were intent on taking your own life on July 2, 2023.' He said a train driver 'saw you step in the path of a train' and people involved in the rescue were in 'various stages of upset'. The court heard that Danquah had no previous convictions and was involved in a Ghanaian community group. Danquah made further suicide attempts, including in December 2023, the court heard. Gary Allan, for the defence, said it was a 'horrible miracle' and Danquah was receiving psychiatric help since a 'one-off horror story took place at his own hand'. Allan said Danquah had been 'beaten up by other prisoners', and jail 'will be a living nightmare for him'.

Word ‘Jewish' ripped from comedian's posters at the Edinburgh Fringe
A comedian has claimed the word 'Jewish' was burned from posters advertising her Edinburgh Fringe show. Earlier in the festival Rachel Creeger had one show cancelled over alleged staff concerns about potential security risks. Ms Creeger was offered the chance to perform at another venue, Hoots, and posters were put out advertising her show, Ultimate Jewish Mother. The word 'Jewish' appears to have been deliberately burned on outdoor posters, rendering the 'Jew' illegible. She posted on Instagram: 'Overnight, vandals burned out the word Jew out of the signage outside my lovely venue. I am not going to let this break me, but I am not going to lie, it's a tough day.' The vandalism marks the latest in a string of controversies at the Fringe, amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. In July, Ms Creeger and Philip Simon were set to perform at the Whistlebinkies venue in Edinburgh. However, they claimed they were informed that their gigs would be cancelled after bar staff at the venue expressed fears of feeling 'unsafe'. It was claimed that the concerns were raised after an announcement that the venue would receive extra police supervision amid continued worries over the safety of Jewish acts. Days later, having found an alternative venue, Mr Simon was cancelled again, barred from the Banshee Labyrinth pub because of alleged 'rhetoric and symbology' linked to Israel. One reason cited by the venue for cancelling his show, Shall I Compere Thee in a Funny Way?, was his attendance at a vigil for people killed in the 2023 Hamas terror attacks. He said of the incident: 'I am still processing the concept that in 2025 I can be cancelled just for being Jewish. In the meantime, I will still be at the Fringe for my one remaining children's show and continue to investigate possible alternative venues for both of my cancelled shows.' It is understood that the alleged vandalism has been reported to Police Scotland.

Jailed for ten years, man who stepped in front of train holding two-year-old child
A man who attempted to murder a toddler by stepping in front of a moving train while holding the child has been jailed for 10 years. Frederick Danquah assaulted the two-year-old in his care at Glasgow 's Garrowhill train station on July 2, 2023. The 28-year-old had been told his relationship with a former partner was over. He was carrying the youngster on his shoulders as the train struck them. Both were injured but the toddler escaped with minor grazes and has since recovered. It came after police let Danquah leave with the boy after he was spotted trying to pull himself and the child ver a fence on a foot bridge over a motorway. Danquah was previously found guilty of attempted murder at the High Court in Glasgow and was yesterday sentenced to 10 years in prison. He was also convicted of culpable and reckless conduct. Danquah had lodged a special defence that he was unable to appreciate his actions due to a mental illness. The court heard yesterday that he was deemed to have an 'adjustment disorder', but was not at a level which absolved him of being criminally responsible. Yesterday a judge condemned Danquah's attempts to kill the boy, saying: 'You meant to have his mother attend his funeral'. The incident had been described as an apparent 'murder suicide' during a previous hearing. Jurors heard how Danquah had struggled to accept his relationship with his partner was over in 2023. She insisted they would not get back together and that she had since met someone else. He ended up alone with the boy on the day of the murder bid. At one stage, he wrote what appeared to be a suicide note and posted it on Facebook. It included: 'I cannot continue to live in this darkness, I guess this is goodbye.' He was later seen with the child on a footbridge over the M8 in the city centre. He repeatedly tried to pull himself and the boy over a fence. Police went on to speak to Danquah, but were reassured enough that they left him with the boy. However, he went on to make his way to Garrowhill station where what his own lawyer called 'a one-off horror story' occurred. CCTV captured Danquah as he had his boy on his shoulders and then stepped in front of a train pulling into the platform. An off-duty nurse was at the station and she helped calm the chaotic scenes until paramedics arrived. The child miraculously suffered only bruising and swelling to his head, back, face and nose. Danquah, however, had fractures to his spine and jaw. The boy's mother later learned of what happened and raced to hospital to see her son. Recalling his condition, she recalled in court: 'He was lying and could not move his body. 'They did not know at the time if there was anything wrong with him. The nurse said he could hear, but was in shock. He had a lot of bruises.' After the incident, Danquah was initially held at a mental health clinic in Glasgow before being discharged. Gary Allan KC, defending, said Danquah continues to need help with prison 'frightening the living daylights out of him'. The advocate said what happened was 'wholly out of character'. Mr Allan said: 'He has asked me to state how sorry he is that he put the child in the position that he did.' Sentencing, Judge Tony Kelly said he had read an emotional impact statement from the boy's mother. He told Danquah: 'The affect on his mother is profound. She is deeply affected. 'She said she felt overwhelmed. She still suffers constant anxiety.' The judge added: 'You endangered the life of the boy, You intended to take his life. 'You meant to have his mother attend his funeral.' Members of Danquah's family broke down in tears as he was led handcuffed to the cells.
