SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Scranton Police Department say they need help identifying a child found Friday night.
Police say the non-verbal child was found in the area of Sheetz at the 500 block of Mount Pleasant and is believed to be five years old.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Scranton Police Patrol Officer Dippre via email at ldippre@scrantonpa.gov or by calling the Scranton Police Department Desk at (570)348-4134.

Allegheny County police apprehend wanted man in Crafton

Allegheny County police have apprehended a wanted man after a SWAT situation in Crafton on Saturday. The department's SWAT unit was deployed just after 4 p.m. to assist Crafton police after a man with multiple felony warrants was believed to be inside an apartment on Parkview Street. Responding officers were able to confirm a man was inside the apartment complex and was refusing to exit the building. After running out of the back door of the building, officers used less lethal munitions before deploying a taser to subdue the suspect and take him into custody. The man, later identified as 41-year-old Richard Graham, was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Graham was not the initial suspect Crafton police were searching for, however, Graham was found to have multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest in Pennsylvania and California. In addition to the warrants, county police say Graham is facing multiple charges, including escape and resisting arrest.

MOUNT CARMEL, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Mount Carmel Township Police Department on Saturday said they are searching for a missing teen. State police are searching for 13-year-old Mason Ortiz, who was described as weighing about 185 pounds and standing at about five feet six inches tall with brown hair and blonde highlights, brown eyes. Crafters, artisans take over mall for Craft and Home Decor Show Authorities say Ortiz was last seen wearing blue shorts, a t-shirt, and red and white shoes near the 300 block of East Columbia Avenue in Mount Carmel on Tuesday, June 3, at about 5:00 p.m. Officials believe Ortiz may be confused or at special risk of injury. Families of missing people come together in Pittsburgh to learn more about available resources

For the past three years, the Pennsylvania Missing Persons Foundation has held a special event in an effort to get people back home. Saturday was Missing Persons Awareness Day. It's a day that puts the missing people back into the eyes of the public and highlights the resources that are available to everyone to help find them. Speakers from the FBI shared important spoke about trafficking, child safety and domestic abuse. Families of four missing people from Western Pennsylvania also shared their stories. Cherrie Mahan's family was in attendance. She went missing from Butler County in 1985 after getting off the school bus. Ruth Brannigan's childhood friend, Mary Ann Verdecchia, was 10 years old when she went missing in 1962. 'There is no federal law or state law that says you need to wait 24 to 48 hours. You report people when you find that they're missing,' Brannigan said. Verdecchia's disappearance was one of the reasons the Pennsylvania Missing Persons Foundation was started.
