TORONTO (AP) — The Toronto Blue Jays cut veteran reliever Erik Swanson on Tuesday and put struggling starter Bowden Francis on the 15-day injured list because of a right shoulder impingement.
The Blue Jays recalled right-hander Paxton Schultz from Triple-A Buffalo and selected left-hander Justin Bruihl from the Bisons.

Swanson was designated for assignment after allowing seven earned runs in 1 2/3 innings over two weekend appearances against Philadelphia.
Swanson was 1-0 with a 15.19 ERA in six appearances since coming off the 60-day injured list on June 1. The right-hander missed the start of the season because of a nerve issue in his arm.
Francis has lost his past six decisions and is winless since April 18 against Seattle. He's 2-8 with a 6.05 ERA in 14 starts. His IL stint is retroactive to June 15.
Francis twice took no-hitters into the ninth inning in 2024, losing both bids on leadoff home runs in the final frame.

Swanson went 2-2 with a 5.03 ERA in 45 games with Toronto in 2024, a challenging season that began with a young son being struck by a car during spring training. Swanson started the season on the injured list because of a sore forearm and was later demoted to Triple-A, rejoining the Blue Jays in July.
Swanson went 4-2 with four saves and a 2.97 ERA in 2023, his first with Toronto after being acquired from Seattle in a trade that sent popular slugger Teoscar Hernández to the Mariners.
Swanson will be eligible for free agency following the 2025 World Series.

Blue Jays lose outfielders Clase and Straw to injury in 2 innings against Diamondbacks
TORONTO (AP) — The Toronto Blue Jays lost center fielders Jonatan Clase and Myles Straw due to injuries within two innings Tuesday night against Arizona. Clase, who started in center, exited after being hit on the right knee by a pitch in the bottom of the fourth inning. Straw, his replacement, departed after crashing into the wall while chasing down a double in the top of the fifth. Clase went down in pain after he was hit by a 93-mph sinker from Diamondbacks right-hander Brandon Pfaadt. Clase stayed in to run the bases, but the inning ended when the next batter, Bo Bichette, flied out. The Blue Jays said Clase left because of a right knee contusion. Four batters into the next inning, Straw slammed into the wall and went down while trying to catch Josh Naylor's RBI double. Naylor put his hands on his head as he looked out at Straw, his former Cleveland teammate, lying prone on the field. The Arizona slugger then walked all the way out to the wall to check on Straw. Straw eventually got to his feet and walked off the field through an outfield gate. He was replaced by rookie Alan Roden. ___ AP MLB:

Longhorns baseball connected to elite ACC Catcher in the transfer Portal
Longhorns baseball connected to elite ACC Catcher in the transfer Portal The Longhorns are in the mix for Carson Tinney Over the last week, Texas Longhorns baseball has been one of the busiest teams in the transfer portal. While they have added a few elite bats, they are not done looking for talent. They are reportedly in the mix for Notre Dame catcher Carson Tinney, alongside the Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs. With Rylan Galvin expected to enter the MLB Draft, the Longhorns will need a new catcher. Adding a player like Tinney would ensure that Texas still has an elite option behind the plate. Along with Galvin, Tinney is a finalist for the Buster Posey Award, which is awarded annually to the best catcher in college baseball. During the 2025 campaign, Tinney was a human highlight reel with the bat. In 48 games, the talented sophomore hit 27 home runs while driving in 53 runs. He led the Fighting Irish in walks with 34 and total bases with 119. Regardless of the opponent, the Valor Christian High School product was a hits machine. While the Longhorns would love to add Tinney's bat to the lineup, he is not the only player they have been connected to. Texas Is also reportedly showing interest in Virginia's Harry Ford, the best bat in the portal. Like Tinney, he is being courted by some of the top programs in the country, including Florida. If Tinney were to join Texas, he would be part of a talented transfer class. That group includes Luke Dotson, Kaleb Freeman, Hayes Holton, and Jack Moroknek. After winning an SEC championship, the Longhorns wasted little time improving their roster with some of the top hitters available. Over the next few weeks, Tinney will be a player to watch. Texas is one of the final teams in the mix, and they hope his next stop will be in Austin before becoming an MLB Draft pick in 2026.
