Shine with gentle integrity: Let this Leo season be a new chance to find your courage

With that in mind, it makes perfect sense that Leo symbolises luminosity, radiance and the ways we shine our inner light. For those born under the sign of Leo, this often manifests as a lifelong journey of self-discovery, frequently accompanied by the internal question: 'Am I shining too brightly – or not brightly enough?'
For those not born under this sign, the weeks ahead still offer an opportunity to reflect on this theme. Leo season invites all of us to explore courage – the courage it takes to share our authentic selves with the world.
Consider a performer or an artist: while they may seem designed to be on display, expressing oneself publicly can be deeply vulnerable. True authenticity takes guts. While Leo season always brings a spotlight on self-expression and visibility, 2025 comes with a twist: nearly the entire Leo season occurs under Mercury Retrograde. This cosmic pairing may temper the usual flamboyant, outward energy Leo is known for. Instead of a brilliant firework display, this year's Leo season might feel more like a warm, intimate campfire.
This gentler glow encourages a shift from external performance to internal reflection. Mercury Retrograde could add a layer of humility and mindfulness to Leo's otherwise bold and exuberant energy. The theme of this season becomes less about being seen and more about being aligned.
A helpful mantra during this time might be: shine with integrity. When Leo's natural creative force is guided by discernment and grounded self-awareness, its light becomes more refined, intentional and impactful.
As a reflection for the coming weeks, consider how and where you shine in your own life. Are there areas where you tend to 'play small' and could step more fully into your expression? Or perhaps places where your energy takes up more space than it needs – spaces where you could make more room for collaboration and shared brilliance?
Let this Leo season be an invitation to illuminate, not just perform – to burn steady and true, not just bright.

He led a vigil on Saturday night and yesterday morning returned for a Mass, thought to have been attended by a million people. In his first big encounter with the next generation of Catholics, the Pontiff spoke in Spanish, Italian and English as he told them: 'Friendship can really change the world. "Friendship is a path to peace. Advertisement 'How much the world needs missionaries of the Gospel who are witnesses of justice and peace.' At the Mass he told his audience they stood alongside the young of Gaza and Ukraine. Francisco Michel, a pilgrim from Mexico, described the pontiff's arrival as a 'spiritual growth'. He said: 'It is something spiritual that you can experience only every 25 years. Lughnasadh is a time of illumination so use midsummer to take stock and give thanks

In Celtic mythology, this date is associated with the god Lugh, a figure of radiance, masterful craftsmanship and generous harvests. It's always fascinating to note the cross-cultural echoes between ancient traditions. While the Celts were venerating Lugh, the Greeks were entering Leo season, which is ruled by the sun and linked to the god Apollo – another symbol of brilliance, artistry and solar power. Both Lugh and Apollo are portrayed as luminous, golden-haired masculine figures, embodiments of solar vitality. They were both known to have skin that radiated light itself. In mythology, everything is symbolic rather than literal. Assigning solar traits to a masculine archetype reflects the active, outward-moving yang energy, just as the moon is often connected to feminine, inward yin energy. In the Northern Hemisphere, this time of year was recognised by ancient cultures as a season of plenty – meant to be celebrated and enjoyed. It's a time to bask in the warmth of the sun, offer gratitude for life's pleasures and recognise the gifts of the season. Considering both Lugh and Apollo's love for music and the arts, this is also a time for artists to showcase their work at festivals and markets. With the symbolism of Lugh and Apollo in mind, we may feel illuminated by this solar light. This can be a time to relish in joy, creativity and connection. It's also a beautiful moment to reflect on how we shine on a personal level, through our talents, offerings and presence in the world. This year's Lughnasadh is accompanied by Mercury Retrograde, which isn't always the case. Mercury Retrograde tends to bring the tempo down and encourage a quieter tone. So while we can still tap into the bliss and bounty of this time, the energy may lean more toward inner reflection and gentle gratitude. Celebrations are certainly welcome, but you might feel drawn to approach social gatherings with a bit more grounded awareness. During Mercury Retrograde, we can sometimes feel more sensitive or reactive, so bringing mindfulness into the moment can help us stay connected and centred. May this Lughnasadh offer you a moment to pause, reflect and recognise how far you've come – and all that is still unfolding.
