Monsoon mayhem in Moga: One missing, another rescued after car submerges in overflowing drain
Inspector Harwinder Singh, SHO Mehna police station, said that one of the two occupants of the Skoda Laura car, identified as Beera, was rescued by the locals. However, another occupant Karan Bawa, in his twenties, was still missing.
'The state disaster response force is at the spot and rescue operations are on but he is yet to be found,' said the Inspector.
Bawa and his worker Beera were travelling towards Ludhiana from Zira of Ferozepur district when their car submerged in the overflowing drain at Bughipura, said police.
The locals rushed for help and pulled out the vehicle but Bawa swept away in the drain, said police.
Manjeet Singh, sarpanch of the village said that due to unrelenting rain since Tuesday, the drains have been overflowing and the car submerged.
Bawa's family reached the spot and urged police and administration to expedite rescue operations.
Beera told local reporters that Bawa was driving the vehicle when it submerged.
'We were travelling towards Ludhiana when Bawa was trying to reverse the vehicle and it submerged. We had opened the doors of the vehicle and had almost come out but then he again slipped and was swept away. I kept on holding to the vehicle tightly,' said Beera.
Locals said that the administration failed to take any concrete steps to manage monsoon rainwater and common people were facing extreme harassment due to the rainwater accumulating at public places.

Relief for AAP MLA Fauja Singh Sarari in sarpanch's suicide case, SIT clears name
1 2 Bathinda: An SIT that was formed to probe a suicide by Jashan Bawa, an AAP worker and the sarpanch of Tarida village in Ferozepur on May 31, has given the clean chit to party MLA from Guru Har Sahai, Fauja Singh Sarari, and his personal assistant, Bachittar Singh. An FIR in connection with the suicide was registered on Friday against five persons, based on a probe report submitted by the special investigation team (SIT), led by an SP-rank officer, said Ferozepur senior superintendent of police Bhupinder Singh. The charges include abetment to suicide and criminal conspiracy. The SSP said Tarida residents Sona Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Hardeep Singh and Sukhwinder Singh, and Nijjar village resident Karanbir Singh Dhillon had been named in the FIR, registered at Lakho Ke Behram police station in Ferozepur, under sections 108 (abetment of suicide) and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of BNS. Police are still probing the role of Mamdot panchayat secretary Roshan Singh, whose name figured in the initial investigation. The FIR was registered on a statement by Bawa's father, Tarsem Lal, and mother Veena Rani. It has been alleged that Sona Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Hardeep Singh, and Sukhwinder Singh hurled taunts at Bawa with support from Dhillon and the backing of panchayat secretary Roshan Singh. Initially, allegations were levelled against Sarari and his PA. A protest was organised against them. Acting on the allegations, Ferozepur SSP Bhupinder Singh formed an SIT comprising SP (headquarters), SP (investigation), and DSP (investigation). When contacted, Sarari said he had nothing to do with the suicide. "Some persons wanted to tarnish my image. Now the truth has come to the fore," he said.

Delhi court summons complainant in assault on Police Official case
New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) A court here on Thursday issued summons to the complainant in a case filed against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament (MP) Yogender Chandolia who allegedly assaulted an on duty Traffic Police Official in 2020. After hearing both sides, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Neha Mittal said, "Matter is listed for Prosecution Evidence (PE). However, summons have not been issued to the witness by the Ahlmad. The Ahlmad is directed to be careful in future." "Complainant be summoned for evidence on July three, 2025 for PE," the court said. The court had earlier said, "In view of the discussion, accused Yogender Chandolia is discharged under Section 186 of Indian Penal Code and prima facie case for offences punishable under Sections 341, 353, 356 and 34 of Indian Penal Code is made out against the accused." In this matter, a call was received on October seven, 2020 at Prasad Nagar Police Station regarding the blocking of a crane by a group of people, upon which ASI Pavinder Kumar along with Constable Sunil had reached the spot. Complainant HC Raj Kumar in a written complaint on October eight, 2020, stated that on October seven, 2020 at around 4:30 pm while he was on crane duty near Shiv Mandir, Tank Road, he pointed towards one Scooty which was improperly parked. Following which, the accused started shouting and asked why he is not lifting other cars, which are also improperly parked. The accused then blocked the way of the crane and used abusive language against the complainant. The accused incited people who gathered at the spot and kept on misbehaving with complainant despite repeated efforts to pacify him. It is further alleged in the complaint that the complainant started recording the incident on his mobile phone upon which the accused tried to snatch his phone and also pulled down the complainant when he was trying to board the crane. It is further alleged that the complainant handed over his mobile phone to his crane operator Beera but some unknown accomplice of the accused snatched the mobile phone from Beera. Thereafter, the accused kept the keys of the crane and the mobile phone of the complainant with himself, upon which he dialled 100 number and TI was also intimated. The FIR was registered on October eight, 2020 under Sections 186 (obstructing public servant in the discharge of his public functions), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 353 (assault to deter a public servant from discharge of their duty) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Chandolia.
