Malaysia, Germany Continue To Strengthen Defence Cooperation

BERLIN (Germany), May 14 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Germany are committed to continuing to strengthen bilateral defence ties through various strategic initiatives, including cooperation agreements, military training, and capacity building in the field of security and defence technology.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the matter was among those discussed during his meeting with German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius in conjunction with the United Nations (UN) Peacekeeping Ministerial 2025 Forum held here.
'Germany and Malaysia enjoy good relations in the field of defence, and we deeply value the cooperation that has been fostered over the years. Whenever the opportunity arises, we make it a point to meet and exchange views on the current geopolitical and security landscape,' he said when met here yesterday.

He also welcomed ASEAN's decision to accept Germany as an observer country in the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM), while hoping that the country would play a meaningful role in the regional security platform.
'Malaysia is grateful for Germany's willingness to join the ADMM as an observer and is confident that this participation will contribute to the peace and stability of the Southeast Asian region,' he said.
At the meeting, Mohamed Khaled said Germany also expressed its intention to sign a Letter of Intent with Malaysia to facilitate and expedite all forms of defence cooperation between the two countries.
According to him, both parties are currently discussing and finalising the document.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said as Muslims around the world face increasing division due to narrow-minded ideologies and a fading sense of brotherhood, the spirit of haj must be embraced to rekindle the values of love, mutual respect, and fraternity among the faithful. 'If we reflect with open hearts, we will see that haj is a commanding symbol of unity for Muslims worldwide. Look at the millions of people from different races, skin colours, cultures, and languages gathering in one place, facing one qiblah, calling out one name, Allah SWT. 'There are no titles, no castes, no worldly pride. All that remains are two pieces of white cloth and hearts humbled before the Creator. Here, Islam abolishes discrimination and upholds true justice, that a person's worth lies not in appearance or wealth but in piety and righteous deeds. 'This is the social objective (maqasid) of haj, to unite the hearts of the followers of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Without unity, the ummah will remain weak, marginalised, and lost,' he said in the Arafah sermon titled 'The Call of Tawhid and Unity of the Ummah,' delivered in conjunction with Wukuf Day on the plains of Arafah today. Muslims are also urged to embrace the noble values emphasised throughout haj to ensure that the pilgrimage is not only valid but also leaves a profound impact in shaping one's character and personal development. Mohd Na'im also reminded pilgrims to safeguard their safety, belongings, and families to avoid negligence that could jeopardise their entire pilgrimage. 'Pilgrims are also reminded to fulfill the rights of fellow human beings by practising tolerance and mutual assistance and to avoid any kind of dispute that may undermine the spiritual essence of haj,' he said.

Anwar Receives Aidiladha Greetings From Iranian President, Reaffirms Support For Palestine

In a phone call with Masoud earlier today, Anwar said Malaysia stands firmly with Iran in strongly rejecting all forms of occupation and the ongoing expulsion of Gaza's people, who continue to be oppressed by the Zionist Israeli regime. 'I also conveyed that Malaysia's foreign policy is not dictated by external powers but is built on national interests and firm convictions. 'Malaysia condemns the hypocrisy of certain countries that claim to uphold human rights yet silently allow mass killings without any dignified action. Silence in the face of oppression is a betrayal of universal human values,' he said in a statement on Facebook. Anwar said Masoud also extended Aidiladha greetings for the celebration on Saturday. Anwar prayed that hajj pilgrims from both nations currently in the holy city of Makkah would be granted a blessed hajj and contribute to the development of the 'Ummah' upon returning to their respective countries. The prime minister also expressed gratitude to Masoud for his noble efforts in facilitating the repatriation of two Malaysian citizens previously detained in Iran.
