OpenAI CEO Sam Altman teases GPT-5 with this question about TV show

Time of India3 days ago
OpenAI
CEO
Sam Altman
recently teased what appears to be the new model of
ChatGPT
– GPT 5. It all started when Altman shared a post on X (formerly Twitter), praising the animated series Pantheon. 'pantheon is such a good show!,' he wrote in his X post. Replying to the post, an X user asked Sam Altman: 'did
gpt-5
recommend?'. To this, the OpenAI CEO replied in affirmation, saying 'turns out yes'. Altman also shared a screenshot of a conversation with ChatGPT 5 answering the question: 'what is the most thought-provoking show about AI?'
The AI bot named Pantheon and Devs, praising the shows. Notably, this is one of the first glimpses of OpenAI's next model GPT 5. The screenshot shows that GPT-5 can gather and combine information from the internet correctly. Having said that, the screenshot did not reveal any key feature of the AI model.
Sam Altman warns of 'capacity crunches' ahead of new launch
In another post on X, Sam Altman wrote that the company has planned 'ton of stuff' to launch in the future. These will include new models, products, features and more.
'we have a ton of stuff to launch over the next couple of months--new models, products, features, and more. please bear with us through some probable hiccups and capacity crunches. although it may be slightly choppy, we think you'll really love what we've created for you!,' the OpenAI CEO wrote in the X post.
Speaking about GPT-5's capabilities in a podcast recently, Sam Altman said 'I was testing our new model and I got a question. I got emailed a question that I didn't quite understand. Uh, and I put it in the model, this GPT5, and it answered it perfectly and I really kind of sat back in my chair and I was just like a, oh man, here it is moment and I got over it quickly.'
'I felt like useless relative to the AI in this thing that I felt like I should have been able to do and I couldn't and it was really hard, but the AI just did it like that.' he added.

SoftBank Group posts $2.87 billion net profit in first quarter

TOKYO (Reuters) -Japanese technology investor SoftBank Group logged a net profit of 421.8 billion yen ($2.87 billion) for the April-June quarter. The result compared with a net loss of 174.3 billion yen for the same period a year earlier and the 127.6 billion yen average profit from three analyst estimates compiled by LSEG. The Vision Fund investment unit posted an investment gain of 726.8 billion yen ($4.94 billion). The results mark SoftBank's second consecutive quarter of profit and follow its first annual profit in four years when it was helped by a strong performance by its telecom holdings and higher valuations for its later-stage startups. The results will be welcomed by investors as SoftBank has embarked on its biggest spending spree since the launch of its Vision Funds in 2017 and 2019, this time making mammoth investments in artificial intelligence companies. Investors and analysts are awaiting updates on how these investments will be financed, the timeline for returns to materialise and whether assets will be sold to fund the new projects. SoftBank is leading a $40 billion funding round for ChatGPT maker OpenAI. SoftBank has until the end of the year to fund its $22.5 billion portion, although the remainder has been subscribed, according to a source familiar with the matter. It is also leading the financing for the Stargate project - a $500 billion scheme to develop data centres in the United States, part of its effort to position itself as the "organiser of the industry," founder Masayoshi Son said in June. SoftBank has yet to release details on what kinds of returns its financing of the Stargate project could generate. The extent of third-party investment will determine what other financing tools, such as bank loans and debt issuance, it may have to deploy. In July, SoftBank raised $4.8 billion by selling off a portion of its holding in T-Mobile. SoftBank Swings to Profit on Nvidia Bet Ahead of Big AI Campaign

(Bloomberg) -- SoftBank Group Corp. swung to a profit in the June quarter, bolstered by gains in its holdings including Nvidia Corp. and Coupang Inc., in a boost for founder Masayoshi Son's planned bets on artificial intelligence technologies. The Tokyo-based company reported net income of ¥421.82 billion ($2.9 billion) in its fiscal first quarter, versus the average of analyst estimates compiled by Bloomberg of ¥158.23 billion. The Vision Fund logged a ¥451.39 billion profit. Son is doubling down on bets geared to help him capitalize on booming investment in AI hardware. As part of that shift in focus, SoftBank has been building stakes in Nvidia and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. among others, while selling off less relevant assets. SoftBank increased its stake in Nvidia to more than $3 billion as of end-March, helping the Japanese investor benefit from the AI accelerator maker's 46% rally during the three months through June. US President Donald Trump's threat to unleash 100% chip tariffs but exempt companies moving production to America is infusing optimism for SoftBank's $500 billion Stargate data center foray with OpenAI and Oracle. That nudged the Japanese company's stock up around 1.5% on Thursday, putting it on track to pass a record high it hit the day before. 'Our longer-term outlook for SoftBank Group is cautiously optimistic, with a consensus toward continued business expansion,' said Ashwin Binwani, founder of Alpha Binwani Capital. 'We are prepared for volatility and see it as a buy-the-dip opportunity.' The 67-year-old SoftBank founder seeks to play a more central role in the spread of AI through sweeping partnerships such as Stargate and a planned $30 billion investment in OpenAI. Son is also courting TSMC and others about taking part in a $1 trillion AI manufacturing hub in Arizona. But concern over whether SoftBank can manage multiple mass-scale funding needs as interest rates inch up is keeping its stock at a significant discount to the total net asset value of its holdings. Some of the conversations behind Stargate have slowed due to market volatility, uncertainty around US trade policy and questions around the financial valuations of AI hardware, Bloomberg News reported in May. 'Key points to consider in assessing SoftBank include whether investment in the Stargate Project involving AI infrastructure in the US will progress; whether additional investment in OpenAI amid a fluid management situation is tenable,' SMBC Nikko Securities analyst Satoru Kikuchi wrote in a note earlier this year. --With assistance from Aya Wagatsuma. Google's Gemini AI gets ‘Guided Learning' mode similar to ChatGPT's ‘Study Mode'

Google on Wednesday (August 6, 2025) announced that it was launching a 'Guided Learning' mode in its AI service Gemini that would help users learn with the chatbot in a more collaborative way. The update comes several days after rival OpenAI introduced a 'Study Mode' in ChatGPT that was aimed at breaking down more educational or academic problems into smaller steps or processes, rather than giving learners an answer right away. Guided Learning follows a similar approach, by posing open-ended questions, encouraging deep dives into a subject, and adapting explanations to user needs. Gemini's Guided Learning further integrates images, diagrams, videos, and interactive quizzes in order to offer a multimedia approach to learning, rather than just generating text. Some responses can even include YouTube videos to enhance learning, per the company. Like OpenAI, Google too stressed that it worked with educators, students, and pedagogical experts for this purpose. Google pointed to the development of LearnLM, a family of models that it said was grounded in educational research. 'We worked with educators to design Guided Learning to be a partner in their teaching, built on the core principle that real learning is an active, constructive process. It encourages students to move beyond answers and develop their own thinking by guiding them with questions that foster critical thought,' said Google VP of Learning, Maureen Heymans, in a blog post. OpenAI and Google are working to bring their AI offerings to schools, universities, and educational institutions through more accessible and affordable channels. However, many educators and researchers have raised concern about students failing to develop their academic research skills, reading comprehension, media literacy, or communication skills when they overly rely on chatbots.
