SAD workers hold protest over arrest of party leader Bikram Maijithia
Punjab police on Thursday (June 26, 2025) detained workers of the Shiromani Akali Dal party, who were protesting over the arrest of party leader Bikram Singh Majithia by the Vigilance Department.
This comes after the Punjab Vigilance Bureau took into custody SAD leader and MLA Bikram Singh Maijthia after conducting searches at his house in Amritsar.
The wife of Bikram Singh Majithia, Ganieve Kaur Majithia, said that 30 to 35 people entered their house on Wednesday without showing any warrant or document. Kaur stated that the matter is yet to be investigated. She further thanked all the SAD supporters who stood for Bikram Singh Mathithia during the raids.
"Thirty to thirty-five people entered our house. They neither showed us any warrant nor any other document...They just stormed into our house and started checking our personal belongings. They did not speak with us. I tried speaking to the officers...This is a matter that has not even been investigated. Let's see what happens. Let the government do whatever it wants...Whatever is happening is all before you. We have fought this fight and we will continue to fight...People of Majithia stand with us and they will continue to do so," Kaur said.
Meanwhile, Punjab Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that the Aam Aadmi government was fighting against the drug menace and action would be taken against those involved in the drug business."

Chandigarh: SAD Thursday said AAP in Punjab "violated the law" by registering a DA case against SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia , saying that it did not hold either a preliminary or regular probe. The party accused AAP of indulging in vendetta politics to gag Majithia and using the arrest to divert attention from the failure of its anti-drug campaign. Without naming any leaders, but in what ostensibly was a remark directed at AAP, SAD leader Maheshinder Singh Grewal cited Majithia's affluent background to claim he was innocent. Grewal added the drug situation in Punjab had not changed. "People are dying. Drugs are getting sold on a larger scale. Corruption has not stopped and they (AAP leaders) have not been able to give employment. Besides, law and order has collapsed; and democracy is dead," he said. Grewal accused AAP govt of misleading Punjabis and even committing contempt of court by stating that Majithia was arrested in a Rs 540-crore drug case. Claiming that Majithia had been subject to a media trial since 2015, Grewal termed the registration of a fresh case against Majithia as "murder of democracy and murder of the judicial system".

HSGMC Akali leaders, RSS observe 50th anniv of Emergency as ‘Black Day'
Kurukshetra: Leaders of HSGMC, from the dissident group of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), and RSS ideologues were seen sharing the same platform during an event at Kurukshetra University (KU) to mark the 50th anniversary of the Emergency as a 'Black Day'. It was organised by HSGMC. Led by its chief Jagdish Singh Jhinda, the event honoured individuals who endured political persecution during the 1975 Emergency imposed by the then Indira Gandhi-led Congress govt. Among the attendees were former MP Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra, who was among the youngest to be jailed during the Emergency, former Punjab cabinet minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa, both from the dissident SAD group, Kanwarpal Singh Tohra, grandson of former SGPC president Gurcharan Singh Tohra, KU's former vice-chancellor (VC) DDS Sandhu, 48 Kos Pilgrimage Monitoring Committee chairman and RSS ideologue Madan Mohan Chhabra, advocate Mahinder Singh Tanwar, and others. Distinguished guests were honoured with a model of Sri Darbar Sahib, a portrait of Baba Banda Singh Bahadar, and shawls. Chandumajra recounted his personal experience during the Emergency, describing the repression by then PM Indira Gandhi 's govt. "In her desperate bid to cling to power, she imprisoned many prominent leaders, including top Akali and RSS members. SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia sent to 7-day police custody in money laundering case linked to drugs
Mohali (Punjab) [India], June 26 (ANI): Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia was sent to seven days of police custody by a Mohali court on Thursday in connection with a money laundering case linked to drugs. He will be produced before the court again on July 2. Speaking to ANI, the Public Prosecutor Advocate Ferry Sofat said, 'Bikram Singh Majithia's income of Rs 540 crore remains undisclosed, and he could not mention any details about it...' He informed the court that there were large and unexplained cash deposits made by Saraya Industries, a company operated by Majithia's family since the 1950s. 'When he became a minister in 2007, his company, Saraya Industries, operating since the 1950s under his grandfather and father, saw a sudden surge of 200% to 300% in cash deposits. This resulted in an unexplained difference of Rs 161 crore, not accounted for in any balance sheet, the Public Prosecutor said. He added, 'During his second term as a minister in 2012-13, the company deposited Rs 1342 crore while the official records showed only Rs 1106 crore, leaving an unaccounted difference of Rs 236 crores. Loan received from a foreign country was either not returned, or a one-time settlement was done with a profitable company... Discrepancies of Rs 1.5 crore were found in personal assets, all totalling to Rs 540 crore.' The court was also informed that Majithia had allegedly threatened the investigating officers during his arrest, and the incident was captured on video. 'Therefore, the court granted 7 days of police remand... This is a fresh case of disproportionate assets that emerged during an SIT-led investigation,' the Public Prosecutor added.
