Delhi woman sub-inspector held for taking Rs 20.50 lakh bribe

New Delhi: A Delhi Police's woman sub-inspector posted at Paschim Vihar East police station has been arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs 20.50 lakh, an official said on Monday. The case is currently being probed by the Vigilance Department of the Delhi Police, which laid a trap based on a complaint filed by a city-based doctor and his son. According to the complaint, the sub-inspector had allegedly demanded a total bribe of Rs 50 lakh in connection with a transfer and recruitment-related matter pertaining to the Ministry of Home Affairs. 'A demand of Rs 50 lakh was made by the accused, of which Rs 20.50 lakh was reportedly paid and recorded by the complainant. The remaining amount was allegedly being demanded through pressure tactics,' a senior police officer said. He added that the complainant provided concrete evidence of the transaction, prompting the vigilance team to lay a trap and apprehend the accused officer. It has also emerged during the preliminary investigation that the woman SI allegedly took the doctor and his son into a room in the police station where she physically assaulted and threatened them. The complainant further alleged that he was coerced into complying with the bribe demand under duress.

Woman sub-inspector, 2 other cops among 5 arrested for taking Rs 20 lakh bribe in Delhi

The Delhi Police Sunday arrested a woman sub-inspector, two of her subordinates, and two civilians for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 20 lakh from a complainant, an officer said. According to the police, Sub-Inspector Neetu Bhist, posted at Paschim Vihar East police station, was caught red-handed on the station's premises after the Outer District police laid a trap on the request of the complainant. The two other police personnel arrested include a head constable and a constable. A senior police officer said the process to suspend the accused officers will be initiated as soon as the preliminary inquiry is complete. Officers said the complainant, who runs an educational consulting firm, told them that he was in his office on Saturday when a police officer from Paschim Vihar East station arrived and accused him of running his business illegally. The complainant was then forced to board an SUV and taken to a police booth in Peera Garhi. The complainant alleged that the police personnel asked him for Rs 50 lakh, and the sub-inspector called him and threatened dire consequences if he lodged a complaint. Officers added that the two civilians arrested were known to the complainant, and they had forced him to sign two cheques to 'settle' the matter with the police. After negotiations, the complainant allegedly agreed to pay Rs 20 lakh as the first instalment. Investigators are now probing the role of the Station House Officer (SHO) of Paschim Vihar East police station in the incident as one of accused civilians, Ajay Kashyap, is often seen frequenting the station. In June this year, the Vigilance Department of the Delhi Police caught a head constable taking a bribe of Rs 25,000 at Burari police station. The accused subsequently suffered chest pain and was rushed to a hospital nearby. In the first seven months of 2025 alone, the Delhi Police have arrested at least 10 of its officers for taking bribes. This includes officers of inspector and sub-inspector ranks, public records show.

115 Land Plots, Assets Worth Crores: What Odisha Vigilance Found In Raid On Officer

An official in Odisha was found to have 115 land plots in his name, gold weighing 200 grams, a small armoury containing rifles, and other assets worth crores during a raid by the Vigilance Department on Sunday. Nityananda Nayak, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of the Kendu Leaf Division in Keonjhar, had the highest number of properties owned by any government officer, found the anti-corruption wing of Odisha government. The searches were carried out at seven places in Angul, Keonjhar and Nayagarh districts of the state, where Nayak owned houses. Simultaneous raids were conducted at Nayak's lavish residence in Angul's Jagannath Vihar, ancestral property in Similipada, and his in-laws' house in Jagannathpur in Angul district. Apart from 115 land plots, the Vigilance Department also found cash worth Rs 1.55 lakh, one four-storeyed building in Angul, a small armoury containing rifles and other weapons, two four-wheelers and four two-wheelers, gold weighing 200 grams, and a collection of teak artefacts. "Seven teams of Odisha Vigilance comprising 3 DSPs, 10 Inspectors, and other supporting staff searched for the strength of search warrants issued by the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Keonjhar," a vigilance official said. Officials suspect that the teak and timber artefacts along with wood-cutting equipment were likely sourced illegally during Nayak's forest operations. Nayak joined government service as a Range Officer in 1992 and rose through the ranks to become DFO of the Kendu Leaf Division. As per the data shared by the Vigilance department, Nayak topped the list of land acquisition with 115 plots, while Pravas Kumar Pradhan, Chief Construction Engineer of Anandpur Barrage Project in Keonjhar, was placed second with 105 plots. The Vigilance official arrested Pravas Kumar Pradhan on August 3 last for possessing assets more than his income. The raid is part of a larger investigation into Nayak's alleged accumulation of wealth beyond known sources of income.

U'khand: High-profile arrests, 71 per cent conviction rate marks CM Dhami's anti-corruption push

Dehradun: In a sweeping campaign to cleanse Uttarakhand's administrative machinery, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami's zero-tolerance policy against corruption has yielded a series of decisive actions -- both high-profile and systemic. Over the past four and a half years, the Vigilance Department has conducted 82 trap operations, resulting in 94 arrests, including 13 gazetted officers. Backed by a 71 per cent conviction rate, Uttarakhand's anti-corruption campaign has firmly transitioned from principled declarations to concrete, courtroom victories. Among the most notable cases are arrests of senior officials across departments; a PWD Assistant Engineer in Nainital caught soliciting Rs 10,000; a UPCL Junior Engineer in Dehradun accepting Rs 15,000; and a Roadways AGM (assistant general manager) in Kashipur detained for a Rs 90,000 bribe. The District Excise Officer in Rudrapur was apprehended for accepting a ten percent commission on liquor consignments worth Rs 10 lakh. These arrests reflect the breadth of the crackdown, extending from technical cadres to regulatory authorities. The Chief Minister has directed all departments to withhold key responsibilities from accused officials until final judicial outcomes are reached. A toll-free helpline (1064) has been launched to encourage public reporting, and prosecution timelines in trap cases have been fast-tracked. According to the official data, arrests have steadily increased year-on-year; 7 in 2021; 15 in 2022; 20 in 2023, and 38 in 2024. As of mid-July 2025, 14 arrests have already been recorded. In a parallel disciplinary action, the Uttarakhand Drinking Water Corporation suspended Superintending Engineer Sujit Kumar Vikas following grave allegations of financial misconduct. The officer allegedly facilitated a Rs 10 lakh transfer to a firm linked to his spouse in exchange for departmental favours. Despite being given time to respond, he failed to submit a clarification, prompting immediate suspension. The Corporation's Chairman clarified that the charges were of a serious nature and that Vikas' continued presence in Haldwani would adversely affect the morale and integrity of other officials. He has now been reassigned to the General Manager (Training) office in Roorkee for the duration of the inquiry. This layered approach -- combining legal prosecution with administrative discipline -- signals a new era in Uttarakhand's governance, where ethical conduct is not merely expected but enforced. Under CM Dhami's leadership, the state appears determined to transform its bureaucratic culture, restoring public trust through transparency, accountability, and swift justice.

TTD Suspends Official For Attending Church Prayers, Cites Violation Of Hindu Code Of Conduct

Last Updated: In a statement on Tuesday, the TTD said Rajasekhar Babu was found participating in church prayers every Sunday, an act deemed to be in violation of the organisation's norms. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), which oversees the administration of the revered Sri Venkateshwara Swamy temple in Andhra Pradesh, has suspended Assistant Executive Officer A. Rajasekhar Babu for allegedly attending Christian prayer services in his hometown of Puttur, located in Tirupati district. In an official statement on Tuesday, the TTD said Rajasekhar Babu was found participating in church prayers every Sunday, an act deemed to be in violation of the organisation's norms. 'It is nothing but a violation of TTD norms as he has not followed the code of conduct of the TTD as an employee of the organisation, and has acted irresponsibly as an employee representing a Hindu religious organisation," the temple trust stated. Based on a detailed report submitted by its Vigilance Department and other evidence, the TTD said it had taken immediate disciplinary action under its rules and placed the official under suspension. This is not the first instance of action against employees for practising non-Hindu religious customs. In February, the TTD initiated disciplinary proceedings against 18 staff members, including six teachers, who were found participating in non-Hindu rituals. Among them were senior personnel such as a deputy executive officer, an assistant executive officer, and two electricians. Following the instructions of TTD Chairman B.R. Naidu, all 18 employees were barred from involvement in temple-related religious duties and reassigned from postings at Tirumala or any other religious function. The disciplinary actions were based on violations of Rule 9 (vi) under Government Order No. 1060 issued by the Revenue Department (Endowments) on October 24, 1989, which mandates strict adherence to Hindu traditions by TTD staff.
