Jonnu Smith reacts to his blockbuster trade: 'I'm great, I'm blessed, I'm a Steeler'
Days after the blockbuster trade that saw the Dolphins send Smith and All-Pro CB Jalen Ramsey to the Steelers in exchange for Minkah Fitzpatrick, Pittsburgh's newest tight end shared his honest reaction with former Miami teammate OT Terron Armstead:

"I didn't foresee this happening with how the season went for me, individually," Smith told Armstead in a one-on-one interview. "Obviously, I had aspirations of ending my career in Miami, with it basically being home for me, my children, my family — but I understand the business side of it, and it didn't work out. I'm grateful. I got no ill feelings toward Miami or nobody in the organization. I can't sit here and lie — say that it didn't sting, when the process was playing itself out…"
After revealing his take on leaving Miami, his somber attitude took a complete 180 when discussing his new home in Pittsburgh:
"But all in all bro, I'm great, I'm blessed, I'm a Steeler," Smith said. "You know what I'm saying? I'm playing for one of the most historic sports franchises in the history of sports — under a great head coach with [Mike Tomlin], back with my dog Arthur Smith, who I had a lot of success with throughout my career. So, I'm extremely blessed, bro, and I couldn't be more excited."
Following the trade, Smith took to social media to post a hype video for his arrival in Pittsburgh — one that had Steelers fans ready to run through a wall.

Smith has more than enough fuel in the tank for another Pro Bowl-caliber season in 2025 — which is shaping up to be a Super Bowl-or-bust year as Aaron Rodgers' retirement looms.

They have very little cap space to work with this summer and would have needed to move out some money to improve their chances of landing a top free agent like Ehlers. If the Lightning found a way to land Ehlers, he undoubtedly would have been a major pickup for their roster. He would have been an excellent fit in their top six and on their power play, as he is a very impactful offensive contributor. The 29-year-old forward has scored at least 21 goals eight times over his 10-year career and has recorded at least 60 points four times. This includes this past campaign, as he had 24 goals and 63 points in 69 games with the Winnipeg Jets. It is going to be very fascinating to see how Ehlers performs for the Hurricanes from here, but on paper, this looks like a great move for a Carolina club with Stanley Cup aspirations. Celtics pursuit in Damian Lillard calms down for one major reason
Damian Lillard will have an opportunity to choose any team he wants after leaving the Milwaukee Bucks. According to reports, the Boston Celtics have some interest, and it makes plenty of sense. Whether they view him as a star instantly when he returns from his injury, or someone they can pair with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown in certain sets, there's reason to believe that Lillard would be a great fit. Advertisement He isn't the best defender, which doesn't exactly fit the Celtics, but outside of that, he'd be a nice addition. It won't be easy for the Celtics to land him, with recently outlining what it would take for the Celtics to pick him up in free agency. It's also important to note that Lillard will be sidelined for much of next season due to his Achilles injury. 'The Celtics are currently slightly above the second apron with their projected payroll, but more tweaks to the roster are being explored per sources. Those inevitable tweaks will ultimately reduce Boston's payroll and salaries in a season where spending big into the tax doesn't make sense when Tatum is sidelined. 'While Boston remains above the second apron, they can only offer the veteran's minimum exception. However, as long as the Celtics get and stay under the second apron (via other moves), the door would open technically to Boston using the taxpayer mid-level exception ($5.7 million). Whether Boston would want to offer that money to Lillard is an open question, since giving him that deal would make getting under the luxury tax line this season that much more challenging (Boston is already $20 million over the tax line with the current roster),' they wrote.
