Kerala shocker: Man assaults dentist outside her Kollam clinic, stuffs cloth in mouth; arrested

T'PURAM: A 24-year-old man sexually assaulted a dentist at her clinic in Pathanapuram in Kollam on Saturday evening.
Pathanapuram Police arrested the accused on Sunday. He was identified as Saldan A, a resident of Karamoodu near Pathanapuram.
Police suspect that Saldan was under the influence of some drugs when he committed the crime.
The clinic was functioning next to the grocery shop run by Saldan's father in the same building at Kallumkadavu.
The attack took place when the 43-year-old woman was closing the clinic in the evening. When he spotted her alone, Saldan assaulted her from behind after stuffing a piece of cloth in her mouth. When she cried out for help, locals rushed to the spot from nearby.
They alerted the police after which the accused was handed over to them. "He admitted to the crime but regrets his actions," an officer said.
Saldan was remanded after being produced before a court on charges under BNS sections 329 (3) for criminal trespass, 126 (2) for wrongful restraint, and 74 for assaulting or using criminal force against a woman with the intention to outrage her modesty.

Mhow: A 35-year-old woman filed a complaint against her husband for harassing her for dowry and pronouncing triple talaq in Nisarpur outpost area of Kukshi police station in Dhar on Thursday. "The woman, Hina, approached the police with a complaint accusing her husband, Hashir Mansuri, 38, a resident of Masjid Mohalla in Nisarpur village, of giving her divorce by triple talaq. She also accused him of dragging her by her braid and beating her before driving her out of his house," Sub Inspector Ravi Waskale told TOI. The woman also mentioned that Hashir had tortured her for not bringing dowry from her parents for the last few years. "Hashir was booked under section 4 of the Muslim Women Protection Act and section 115(2) of BNS. He is absconding," Waskale said. According to the police, Hina and Hashir were married in 2010, and Hina alleged that when Hashir started facing a financial crisis due to loss in his business, he began torturing her for dowry. On Wednesday, when Hashir allegedly dragged her out of his house and pronounced triple talaq, she filed a complaint against him. Ankit Kumar, originally from UP's Budaun, had been hit on Aug 1 on CRPF Road near Sector 62. He was rushed to Shri Gobind Hospital near Pataudi Chowk, where he was undergoing treatment. Ankit was working with a mobile services provider and was living with his brother at a rented accommodation in Sheetla Colony. Kochi: A 46-year-old man was arrested by Kochi city cybercrime police for allegedly attempting to defame and extort actor-director Balachandra Menon on Thursday early morning. The arrested person has been identified as Sangeeth Luis, 46, of Kollam. The case pertains to the incident which occurred last Sept. He was declared an offender under Kaapa and moved to preventive detention in 2023, police said. Actor Minnu Muneer, 45, another accused in the case, surrendered before police on June 30, 2025, and her arrest was recorded. She surrendered after her anticipatory bail plea was dismissed and was released on bail as per HC direction. The case was registered on Oct 2, 2024. The accused were booked under BNS Section 351(2) (criminal intimidation), Section 67 (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of IT Act and Kerala Police Act 120 (o) (causing, through any means of communication, a nuisance of himself to any person by repeated or undesirable or anonymous call, letter, writing, message, email or through a messenger).
