Tata Nexon EV crash rating extended to 45 kWh battery pack variants

Bharat NCAP has announced that the 5-star crash test rating has been extended to Nexon EV's 45 kWh variants as well, which were added later on to the lineup. It scored a five-star rating in both adult occupant protection and child occupant protection segments. The electric SUV, which is the bestselling electric car in India since its launch, has scored 29.86 points out of 32.00 points in the adult occupant protection segment. It scored 14.26 points out of 16.00 points in the frontal offset deformable barrier test, while in the side movable deformable barrier test, the SUV scored 15.60 points out of 16.00 points. In the child occupant protection segment, the SUV scored 44.95 points out of 49 points.
Tata Nexon EV 45
As the name suggests, the Nexon EV 45 comes with a 45 kWh battery pack. We managed to squeeze around 330 km on a single charge on the Nexon EV 45. However, it is important to note that the driving range does depend on the driving habits, so someone else might be able to extract more range, especially if there are downhill roads involved and if the driver has a heavy foot, or if there is an uphill, then the range will fall. Apart from the battery pack, the Nexon EV 45 also gets additional features. There is a panoramic sunroof that is only available with the 45 kWh battery pack is a nice addition, and there is also a frunk to store a few things under the hood.
The electric motor drives the front wheels only. It puts out 142 bhp of max power and a peak torque output of 215 Nm. 0-100 kmph comes up in just 8.9 seconds.

The Tata Nexon EV with the bigger battery pack is available in the Red #Dark Edition avatar as well, which costs ₹ 20,000 additional over and above the standard persona. The Red #Dark Edition of the Nexon EV is available in the top-end Empowered+ persona only. Overall, the Tata Nexon EV 45 kWh battery pack variant is available in Creative, Fearless, Empowered and Empowered+ persona options.

IIIT-Delhi's Chartr app eases bus commute in Delhi
Startups emerging from the academic institutions are increasingly shaping real-world solutions, with public transport in the national capital witnessing a notable example as a technology developed at the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIIT-Delhi) is now powering digital ticketing and live tracking for DTC and cluster buses, making daily commutes more efficient and commuter-friendly. In a rare and exemplary instance of academic research translating into real-world innovation, Chartr, a startup incubated at IIIT-Delhi, has successfully completed the full transfer of technology developed at the institute, said an official statement of IIIT-Delhi. The startup has commercialized products based on deep research and completed all formal licensing processes with the institute, a milestone that is among very few of its kind in the Indian higher education ecosystem. "We have built what is called as transport stack that can be taken to many cities in India. The stack contains tracking, journey planning, multimodal ticketing for public transit. The same has been deployed in Delhi in both cluster and DTC buses . This enables better services for the citizens," Dr Pravesh Biyani from IIIT-Delhi told PTI. Founded by Dr Biyani, Chartr builds on over seven years of rigorous research and development in the area of urban mobility and public systems optimization. Live Events Translating academic research into functioning products, navigating the challenges of deployment and building a startup that survives the early hurdles, all while maintaining integrity to licensing norms is rare, he added. Chartr has emerged as a pioneering force in public mobility solutions, offering real-time transit tracking, data-driven decision support tools and citizen engagement platforms, the statement said. Its systems are already live in multiple Indian cities, helping municipal bodies streamline bus operations, reduce commuter wait times and improve service reliability. IIIT-Delhi Director Prof Ranjan Bose said this is a "proud moment for us". "Chartr's journey exemplifies how academic research, when supported by forward-looking institutional policies, can make tangible impact. It sets a precedent and shows that Indian academic institutions can be fertile ground for world-class innovation ," he added. As Chartr moves into its next phase, scaling operations, ensuring recurring revenue and deepening customer relationships, the story serves as an inspiring model for future faculty-led startups, and a powerful validation of IIIT-Delhi's commitment to nurturing innovation with purpose.

Citroen C3 compact SUV is gearing up for a special edition, which is slated to launch soon. The compact SUV segment is one of the most in-demand categories in the Indian passenger vehicle market, but despite being present in the space, Citroen C3 is yet to capture a sizeable market share. The French auto giant is aiming to grab a chunk of the market pie with the upcoming special edition model. Speaking of the design and feature updates expected in the special edition model, the upcoming version of the Citroen C3 will come with a rally-inspired body decal and an interior theme. The seats of the SUV will receive red accents and 'Sport' badges. Adding more zing inside the cabin with new ambient lights, a wireless phone charger, and a dashcam. Besides that, other features will include accented air conditioning knobs, auto-fold ORVMs, automatic climate control, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7.0-inch instrument cluster, four-speaker audio system, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, which are already available in the existing model. While the exterior and interior of the Citroen C3 Sport Edition will have a host of changes, mechanically, it will come unchanged. In that case, expect the same 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine to work under the hood of the Citroen C3 Sport Edition. This engine is capable of churning out 108.6 bhp peak power and 205 Nm of maximum torque. The transmission duty onboard the special edition would be done by a six-speed automatic gearbox. Expect the SUV to come with standard safety features including six airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX mounts, tri-point seat belts, engine immobiliser, ESP, speed-sensing door lock, hill hold, TPMS, and a rear-view camera. Speaking of the price, the special edition will likely command a premium of ₹ 30,000 over the existing range-topping variant of the Citroen C3.

Indian EVs at risk! Delay in Beijing's rare earth magnets can decelerate auto sector growth; China tightens export rules
India's car industry could be in trouble as China's stricter control over rare earth magnet exports and shipment clearances delays may slow down electric vehicle production, Crisil Ratings said. The rating agency said that a disruption of even over a month can affect EV launches, production and push back the sector's growth trajectory. Rare earth magnets Rare earth magnets are low cost but crucial to permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) used in EVs and hybrids for their high torque and energy efficiency. In internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, rare earth magnets are primarily used in electric power steering systems and select other motorised components. China's restriction on export The alarm stems from Beijing's recent export restrictions, imposed in April 2025, on seven rare earth elements and finished magnets. The move, which mandates detailed end-use declarations and bans defence-linked or US-bound re-exports, has resulted in delayed clearances and growing shipment backlogs. 'With the clearance process taking at least 45 days, this added scrutiny has significantly delayed approvals. And the growing backlog has further slowed clearances, tightening global supply chains,' the report said, cited by ANI. India, which relied on China for over 80% of its 540-tonne magnet imports in the last fiscal, has began to feel the squeeze. Crisil revealed that by the end of May, around 30 import requests from Indian companies had received clearance from New Delhi — yet none had been approved by Chinese authorities, and no shipments had landed. 'The supply squeeze comes just as the auto sector is preparing for aggressive EV rollouts,' said Anuj Sethi, senior director at Crisil Ratings. 'Over a dozen new electric models are planned for launch, most built on PMSM platforms. While most automakers currently have 4-6 weeks of inventory, prolonged delays could start affecting vehicle production, with EV models facing deferrals or rescheduling from July 2025. A broader impact on two-wheelers (2W) and ICE PVs may follow if the supply bottlenecks persist for an extended period.' Passenger vehicle volumes are forecast to grow 2–4% in FY26, but EVs, starting from a lower base, are expected to rise 35–40%. Electric two-wheelers could expand 27%, outpacing the wider two-wheeler segment's 8–10% growth. Crisil warned that these projections could soften if supply constraints worsen. How is India dealing with Bejing's blow? The Indian government and automakers are now working on a twin-pronged strategy, in the short term, building strategic inventories, tapping alternative suppliers and stepping up domestic assembly under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. In the long run, the focus is on reducing import dependency by accelerating rare earth exploration, creating local processing capabilities and investing in recycling. In the diplomatic arena, India has opened direct lines of communication with Beijing to stabilise supply flows. 'We are in touch with the Chinese side, both here in Delhi as also in Beijing to bring predictability in supply chain for trade, consistent with international practices' said ministry of external affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during a press briefing. Commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal, meanwhile, described China's export restrictions as a 'wake-up call' for the world. Speaking during his visit to Switzerland, Goyal said India was actively working to develop alternate supply chains and positioning itself as a credible partner for global businesses looking to reduce dependence on China. China's dominance in rare earth processing, controlling over 90% of the global magnet output, has left industries worldwide vulnerable. These magnets are not only vital for EVs but also used across sectors such as home appliances and renewable energy. Efforts are also being made to diversify sources. At the recent India-Central Asia Dialogue in New Delhi, India and five Central Asian nations (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan) expressed interest in jointly exploring rare earths and critical minerals, potentially offering a longer-term buffer against global supply shocks.
