Raghubar slams govt for non-implementation of PESA Act
Das said, "The tribal society has been deprived of the benefits of the Union govt funds due to the non-implementation of the PESA Act though the community comprises the major support base of JMM, which is the ruling party in the state govt coalition. Jharkhand lost the Rs 1,400crore allotted by the central finance commission in the 2024-25 financial year as the state govt failed to introduce the PESA Act during its subsequent terms.
The situation persisted even after JMM promised the electorate to implement the PESA Act in its election manifesto."
"The implementation of the PESA Act would ensure 'Abua Raj' in real term as it would provide the traditional self-rule system of the tribal society a legal status in the 13 districts, comprising 112 blocks, which fall under the scheduled areas. The empowerment of the traditional self-rule bodies through the PESA Act will, in turn, go a long way in preventing the ongoing conversion of the tribals, otherwise being supported by the ruling alliance at the cost of the existence of the community and its culture," he alleged, accusing JMM of betraying the tribal society.

However, in most cases, this has become a tragic and farcical exercise. Several documented instances have shown Indian citizens being pushed across the border into Bangladesh. This has caused significant hardship for the families involved and embarrassment to the government. Some individuals have been repatriated to their families in West Bengal after intervention by the State government or courts. This 'pushback' of suspected Bangladeshis is a part of a larger effort to bypass the due process of law, which is often lengthy and rigorous. The rounding up of Bengali speakers has sparked a debate in West Bengal, where the ruling party, the Trinamool Congress, has called it an 'attack on Bengali identity' and launched a language movement. The targeting of Bengali migrants has immediate consequences for their livelihoods. Fearing detention and forced relocation to Bangladesh — a country to which they may have no connection — many migrant workers from West Bengal have left their jobs. In one particular case, Delhi police detained Bengali speakers who had been granted Indian citizenship under a well-known land exchange treaty with Bangladesh signed by the Narendra Modi government. Bengali is India's second-largest language by number of speakers. The State of West Bengal is both a source and a destination for migrant workers. The divisions being created over language and identity could easily escalate into conflict and violence. Even for the BJP, this exercise makes little political sense and may be counterproductive ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections in West Bengal. The migrant workers from West Bengal who are being harassed in other States do not belong to a single community. BJP leaders in West Bengal are already facing criticism over the issue and are setting up camps to assist citizens with the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in various constituencies across the State. The issue of Bangladeshi citizens entering and working in India is not new. For decades, people from the neighbouring country have entered India for political and social reasons, including better economic opportunities. The boundaries of India are a creation of colonialism and a violent history of political conflicts. While sovereign borders must be protected, the central government must ensure that law enforcement does not become counterproductive and lead to the harassment of its citizens.

Cong holds Vote Satyagraha Tiranga Yatra in Gwalior against alleged mandate theft
Bhopal: State Congress on Thursday organised a Vote Satyagraha Tiranga Yatra in Gwalior which was led by state in-charge Harish Chaudhary, PCC chief Jitu Patwari, LOP Umang Singhar and senior party functionaries Sunil Sharma, MLAs Pankaj Upadhyay, Sahab Singh Gurjar, Suresh Raje, Gwalior (city) district president Devendra Sharma, former MLA Praveen Pathak and others. Speaking to reporters, state party in-charge Chaudhary said: "Today, it is our biggest responsibility to stop the attacks on the democratic system of the country and to save the sanctity of the right to vote. The vote theft being done by the BJP is an attempt to weaken the roots of democracy, and the Congress will fight it strongly." The Congress party is taking out protest marches and demonstrations across the state to protest vote-theft which was alleged by Lok Sabha LOP Rahul Gandhi last week. The Congress claimed that during the 2024 Parliamentary elections, one assembly constituency within a Lok Sabha seat in Karnataka had more than a lakh fake voters. LOP Singhar said: "Our pride is our tricolor. This struggle against the conspiracy of vote-theft in the country is not just for votes, but to save the soul of the country." Patwari said: "Today, by participating in Vote Satyagraha Tiranga Yatra in Gwalior, we have raised our voice for democratic justice and constitutional rights. Those responsible for vote theft will be brought to the dock. The provision of 'one person, one vote' is necessary for a healthy and prosperous democracy, but the BJP has committed the organised crime of vote theft by insulting democracy." He argued that the Vote Satyagraha Tiranga Yatra is being organised to give a clear message from Gwalior that the Congress party will continue to struggle on every front to protect democracy and maintain the sanctity of voting rights.
