Il Makiage Owner Oddity to Launch New Brand, Lifts Full-Year Outlook
The company predicts full-year net revenue between $799 and $804 million, exceeding its previous upper-bound estimate of $798 million.
Chief financial officer Lindsay Drucker-Mann pointed to recent international expansions noting that this marks the ninth consecutive month of growth since the company's initial public offering in 2023.
'International has been a huge highlight for us this year,' Drucker-Mann told The Business of Beauty. The company, which sells almost exclusively via e-commerce, has set up shop in the UK, Canada, Australia and Germany. It also operates a small number of Il Makiage stores in Israel, and is testing new markets in western Europe including France and Spain.

Skin is a particular area of growth for the company — Drucker-Mann points out that skincare now contributes 40 percent of cosmetics brand Il Makiage's revenue — which is planning to launch a new brand this fall with a dermatological slant, geared towards common skin and body conditions like acne, psoriasis and hyperpigmentation. But the largest catalyst of Oddity's growth is its focus on direct-to-consumer e-commerce, which it uses to attract and retain online shoppers through tools like Il Makiage's foundation shade matcher or Spoiledchild's 'Ask Spoiledbrain' recommendation quiz.
'The key driver and differentiator for us is that we have a base of 60 million plus users, who've been to our site, given us a lot of information about themselves — most of them have never transacted with us,' she said. 'We have a very direct read on what the consumer is doing and what kind of product will work, and how to approach them.'
Oddity was founded in 2013 in Israel by Oran Holtzman and Shiran Holtzman-Erel when the pair of siblings relaunched Il Makiage, and has a minority stake from the LVMH-backed private equity firm L Catterton. The company has since relocated to the US and has made a number of acquisitions, including the US biotech startup Revela and Israeli tech firm Fionic.

OpenAI releases lower-cost models to rival Meta, Mistral and DeepSeek
OpenAI on Tuesday released two open-weight language models for the first time since it rolled out GPT-2 in 2019. The text-only models are called gpt-oss-120b and gpt-oss-20b, and are designed to serve as lower-cost options that developers, researchers and companies can easily run and customize, OpenAI said. An artificial intelligence model is considered open weight if its parameters, or the elements that improve its outputs and predictions during training, are publicly available. Open-weight models can offer transparency and control, but they are different from open-source models, whose full source code becomes available for people to use and modify. Several other tech companies, including Meta, Microsoft-backed Mistral AI and the Chinese startup DeepSeek, have also released open-weight models in recent years. "It's been exciting to see an ecosystem develop, and we are excited to contribute to that and really push the frontier and then see what happens from there," OpenAI President Greg Brockman told reporters during a briefing. The company collaborated with Nvidia, Advanced Micro Devices, Cerebras, and Groq to ensure the models will work well on a variety of chips. "OpenAI showed the world what could be built on Nvidia AI — and now they're advancing innovation in open-source software," Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said in a statement. The release of OpenAI's open weight models has been highly anticipated, in part because the company repeatedly delayed the launch. In a post on X in July, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said the company needed more time to "run additional safety tests and review high-risk areas." That came after a separate post weeks earlier, where Altman said the models would not be released in June. OpenAI said Tuesday that it carried out extensive safety training and testing on its open-weight models. It filtered out harmful chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear data during pre-training, and it mimicked how bad actors could try to fine-tune the models for malicious purposes. Through this testing, OpenAI said it determined that maliciously fine-tuned models were not able to reach the "high capability" threshold in its Preparedness Framework, which is its method for measuring and protecting against harm. The company also worked with three independent expert groups who provided feedback on its malicious fine-tuning evaluation, OpenAI said. OpenAI said people can download the weights for gpt-oss-120b and gpt-oss-20b on platforms like Hugging Face and GitHub under an Apache 2.0 license. The models will be available to run on PCs through programs such as LM Studio and Ollama. Cloud providers Amazon, Baseten and Microsoft are also making the models available. Both models can handle advanced reasoning, tool use and chain‑of‑thought processing, and are designed to run anywhere — from consumer hardware to the cloud to on-device applications. Users can run gpt-oss-20b on a laptop, for instance, and use it as a personal assistant that can search through files and write, OpenAI said. "We're excited to make this model, the result of billions of dollars of research, available to the world to get AI into the hands of the most people possible," Altman said in a statement Tuesday.

Tom Lee's BitMine Builds $3 Billion Ethereum Stash, Now Third Largest Public Crypto Treasury
Bitcoin miner BitMine Immersion now has over $3 billion in Ethereum as the company races to stack the second biggest digital coin. The Peter Thiel-backed company now holds 833,137 ETH it bought at an average price of $3,491.86 per coin—making it the largest corporate ETH treasury, it said in a Monday statement. It added that it now ranks as the third largest public crypto treasury in the world, behind only software company Strategy and miner Mara Blockchain, which both hold Bitcoin. Twenty One's $4 billion Bitcoin stash would be good for third on the list of largest public treasuries, but the company's shares do yet trade publicly. BitMine did not respond to Decrypt's request for comment. The Nasdaq-listed firm said in a press release that it has reached its current ETH holdings in just 35 days. "We have separated ourselves among crypto treasury peers by both the velocity of raising crypto NAV per share and by the high liquidity of our stock," BitMine's Chairman Tom Lee said in a statement. Tom Lee of Fundstrat Global Advisors is the brains behind BitMine's ETH stacking strategy. The Wall Street bigwig has long been bullish on Bitcoin but in June said that Ethereum was making a comeback and could be the "next Bitcoin" as institutional investors express interest in the digital coin and its network. Ethereum was recently trading at nearly $3,679 per coin, according to crypto data provider CoinGecko, after jumping 5% over a 24-hour period. The coin is still 24% below its all-time high of $4,878 that it hit in 2021. Still, the coin has rallied by over 46% over a 30-day period as American investors have quickly piled into ETH exchange-traded funds. The vehicles have generated more than $9.5 billion in net inflows since their debut last year. Ethereum treasuries like BitMine are following a model pioneered by Strategy—formerly MicroStrategy—which shifted from software development to buying Bitcoin in 2020. Strategy now holds 628,791 BTC worth over $72 billion. Other Nasdaq-listed companies have followed suit—albeit mostly smaller, lesser-known entities—by buying not only Bitcoin and Ethereum but also altcoins like Solana, XRP, and Toncoin. These companies have achieved at least short-term stock price gains, sometimes with massive spikes. New York Stock Exchange-listed BitMine's (BMNR) stock has rallied over 650% since the end of June. It was recently trading at nearly $32 per share, up by nearly 1% on Monday. Norway Asks Wealth Fund to Review Israel Assets After Uproar
Norway's government ordered the country's sovereign wealth fund to review all its investments in Israel after a report about its holding in an Israeli company linked to the war in Gaza triggered a public outcry. Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg, who oversees the $1.9 trillion wealth fund, told reporters in Oslo on Tuesday he 'understands people are asking questions' about how closely the fund is following its ethical guidelines that exclude companies that contribute to serious violations of human rights, including war crimes.
