Corrie's Jim McDonald icon Charlie Lawson has revealed he was rushed to hospital after suffering two falls
Former Coronation Street legend Charlie Lawson has been rushed to hospital. The 65-year-old actor revealed he was sent to A&E after suffering two falls.
Giving an update from his hospital bed, the former ITV soap star, who is best known for having played Jim McDonald, took to social media to give fans a debrief. Charlie explained he was undergoing examinations after falling twice.
The actor had an MRI scan and was waiting on more results. He said on the clip on Twitter: "Hi folks, went to physio this morning and she sent me straight to A&E, which I did. They examined me.
"I have had an MRI scan and I'm sitting waiting for the results. They've whisked me back in for more examinations so it's not going awfully well at the moment.
"Anyway, I'll keep you updated. They put a wristband on me and all sorts of craic. I've fallen over twice, so something going wrong down there."
He captioned the post: "Ooooh s**t!!!" before being flooded with well-wishes from concerned fans. Charlie further confirmed he was "awaiting the opinion of the spinal surgeon".
One person said: "Hope you are better soon Charlie." Another commented: "All the best Charlie! Keep 'er lit and hang in there!" Someone else wrote: "Get well soon Charlie, Jim has to make one last Corrie comeback."
One fan replied: "Sorry to hear your news, fingers crossed they get to the bottom of it and get you right as rain." Another posted: "Get better soon Charlie !! Glad you are being looked after." Someone else added: "Hope they sort it out soon, Charlie. All the best."
Charlie first made his debut on the Street back in 1989 in his role as Jim, the patriarch of the McDonald family. He remained in the ITV role for over a decade before making his exit in 2000, 11 years on.
He made an on-and-off appearance in Corrie before his last appearance back in 2018. Reflecting back in his memoir, which he published last year, Charlie recalled "hating every minute" of working on the set, prior to his exit.
The star went into detail about how he wanted to leave the long-running show a year before he finally did. Since leaving the soap, Charlie has blasted the programme, insisting that it won't be around in 10 years time.
"I don't watch it. It's a different animal now. It's issue driven now as opposed to when I was there in the 90s, it was character driven. It's issue driven now, there's a degree of wokery involved, there's a degree of political correctness involved and also there are subjects that need to be touched upon, whereas in my day it was character driven," he said.
"I don't think Corrie will be around in 10 years time. I don't think it's going to be having a 94th birthday because television is fundamentally different. I also think EastEnders days are numbered and Emmerdale Farm's days are numbered because of the ratings."

Coronation Street fans are convinced they know what really happened to Becky - DS Lisa Swain's former partner - after Betsy learned some truths about Becky in tonight's episode Coronation Street fans have worked out what really happened to Becky. The character has never appeared on screen but she was a huge part of Lisa Swain's life before she arrived on the Cobbles. Lisa lost her partner Becky in the line of duty and has struggled with that since, unable to cope with the effect it had on their daughter Betsy and has feared her own danger whilst out on the beat after what happened to her late partner. Tonight, there was a shock twist as some truths came out about Becky, with more to come. Betsy found some files about Becky and whilst Swain tried to pass it off, Betsy continued her investigation with it looking like there was some corruption involved. We know Becky died in the line of duty after being run over by Mason's evil brothers during a robbery but now fans of the ITV soap have come up with a whole new theory about what happened to Becky. One fan wrote: "Becky Swain has either faked her own death or is in witness protection. Likely to next be seen alive at Carla & Lisa's wedding day when the guy asks if anyone has any objections." "So when Becky finally arrives, I need someone to make a joke about Lisa having a type. I'll even accept Becky saying it too," another added, with a third sharing: "Okay so Becky is either in whiteness protection or was a bent copper and idk what I'd love more #Corrie." There has been much talk about how well things are going for Carla and Lisa - affectionately named Swarla by fans - with Sydney Martin recently telling The Mirror that Betsy is rooting for them too.
