Kristi Noem trolled brutally for asking fans to choose her official portrait while Texas kids drown in flood

Time of India09-07-2025
US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is facing massive backlash on social media after she asked her followers to pick which portrait of her on horseback they prefer. Noem called on her social media followers to help choose a Western-themed portrait of her that will be on display in South Dakota's state Capitol building. 'Which one do you like for the official Governor's portrait to hang in the South Dakota State Capitol?' Noem asked her nearly 500,000 Instagram followers in a Monday post.
This outraged social media users as they accused her of horsing around on Instagram amid a disaster in Texas.
Kristi Noem slammed online
Known as 'ICE Barbie' for her role in the federal government, Kristi Noem was slammed online after asking her Instagram followers for help choosing her official portrait while Texas children drowned in intense and deadly flash flooding over the weekend. 'Which one do you like for the official Governor's portrait to hang in the South Dakota State Capitol?' she posted on Instagram Monday. 'Thank you David Uhl!'

The second shows Noem dramatically riding in full stride in white fringe pants and a gray zip hoodie with a furry hood, her silver earring blown by the breeze. The third captures Noem with her hands crossed atop her dark jeans as her gaze focuses on something off to the side. Each image captures her long locks flowing under a beige cowboy hat.
Many on social media took this as an opportunity to criticize the head of the Department of Homeland Security for posting on Instagram amid the deadly floods that have devastated parts of Texas. Noem visited the disaster-struck state over the weekend. The DHS oversees the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which helps in disaster response.
At the time she posted the photo, dozens had died as a result of the floods; that number has since climbed to more than 100 people.

"I'm not kidding; amid deporting children and doing nothing to help Texas, Kristi Noem asked her Instagram followers to help choose her Official South Dakota Governor's Portrait," an X user wrote, attaching a picture of the choices Noem presented to her followers.
'70+ dead, many of [them] children…and others still missing AND THIS IS WHAT THE PUPPY SHOOTER IS POSTING RIGHT NOW?' one user asked.
Yet another suggested: 'Maybe the one with the flood, and you doing nothing about it.' Noem has been criticized for 'glamorizing' a very serious job.
"The options all look like covers of romance novels with a heroine named Moron Marlboro," the X user continued. But the comments on the Instagram post itself were much more scathing.
"Maybe the one with the flood, and you doing nothing about it, and maybe a kid floating by?" one angry Instagram user penned. They were referring to the flash flooding in Texas that killed over 100 individuals, including dozens of children, including several at a summer camp that was destroyed by the immense amounts of water that raced through the region over the Fourth of July weekend.

Texas flooding
Massive flash floods hit Texas over the July 4 weekend in which dozens of young girls from Camp Mystic are still reportedly unaccounted for, and dozens have been confirmed dead. At least 10 inches of rain fell in some areas of the Southwestern state, which is more than those regions typically get over the course of an entire summer.
Harrowing videos from inside the camp showed the children singing campfire and worship songs as they rode emergency vehicles and buses during a hasty, last-minute evacuation. Many can be heard crying.
During a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday afternoon, Noem spoke to reporters and briefed the president on her response to the crisis, detailing her visit to Texas. She spoke about the families she met, but said her only course of action was to hug those affected by the tragedy and provide a shoulder for them to cry on as they mourned the loss of their daughters and daughters' friends.

She also faced criticism for stating that the federal government doesn't manage or work to mitigate the disasters, that it's entirely up to the states to handle them. "We, as a federal government, don't manage these disasters — the state does," she could be heard saying in the livestream of the event.
"We come in and support them," she added. "And that's exactly what we did here in this situation — FEMA went to an enhanced level, immediately, but as soon as you signed the major disaster declaration, we were able to get them resources and dollars right away, just like you envisioned through state block grants to help them with cleanup." She was addressing President Donald Trump as she spoke.
"FEMA has been deployed, and we're cutting through the paperwork of the old FEMA, streamlining it much like your vision of how FEMA should operate, and it's been a much better response to help these families get through this terrible situation," she said.

But the response, many said, was too little, too late, and others slammed the Trump administration's gutting of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which many say is underfunded and understaffed, which made it difficult to step in and assist with the Texas flooding over the weekend. Trump nevertheless claimed that the death rate in Texas would be much higher had he and the federal government not "stepped in."
"This is ridiculous," one wrote. Another slammed her border policies and called out her "vanity." They wrote, "México president sent aid and troops to help the red state of Texas. While you are asking for opinions to satiate your vanity."

"(Russian President Vladimir) Putin's regime, which also issues threats against the United States through some of its mouthpieces, must face economic and military blows that strip it of the capacity to wage war," Mr. Yermak said on X. Moscow forces have regularly attacked Zaporizhzhia, using drones, missiles and aerial bombs, since the start of the war that Russia started with a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Russia unilaterally declared early in the war its annexation of parts of Zaporizhzhia and areas in and around three other Ukrainian regions. Kyiv and its Western allies called the move an illegal land grab. Mr. Fedorov said that Russian forces launched eight strikes on the Zaporizhzhia district, reportedly using high-explosive aerial bombs. Reuters could not independently verify Mr. Fedorov's report. There was no immediate comment from Russia. Both sides deny targeting civilians in their strikes, but thousands of civilians have been killed in the conflict, the vast majority of them Ukrainian.

Who is Holly? Vivek Ramaswamy shares update on Cincinnati street brawl victim; blames 'leftist' safety policies

Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy on Monday condemned a violent street brawl in downtown Cincinnati that went viral over the weekend, using the incident to call out what he described as failed public safety policies in Democrat-led cities. Sharing a post on X, Ramaswamy said he had spoken with one of the victims of the assault, a woman named Holly, whom he described as a single working mother. He criticised the lack of law enforcement presence during the Friday night incident. "It's unconscionable that there were no police present in that area of Cincinnati on a Friday night, or even an ambulance to take her to the hospital. Hard-working Americans shouldn't have to worry for their safety when they have a good time in our cities," he wrote on X. He also noted that Holly told him no local or state officials had reached out to her as of Monday afternoon, aside from one police detective. "Leftists like to lecture about 'systemic injustice' while thugs turn our turn cities into war zones. I'm done with their excuses," he added. Promising a tougher approach to crime if elected in 2026, Ramaswamy vowed, "As governor, I'll make sure they're behind bars, not running wild. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like These Are The Most Beautiful Women In The World Undo Our cops will have the green light to restore order—no apologies. Holly appreciates the kind words and prayers from patriots across the country, and hopes that the publicity around her story ensures that local & state leaders clean up our failing cities." Who is Holly? The violent brawl occurred early Saturday morning and was captured in disturbing footage that quickly spread online. The video shows a man being chased into the street, shoved to the ground, and beaten by a crowd. One individual body-slams him while others kick and stomp him. As the man tries to get up, a woman, later identified as Holly rushes to help, only to be punched twice in the face. She collapses to the pavement, hitting her head and bleeding from the mouth as the crowd continues to cheer. The clip has sparked outrage and renewed calls for better safety and policing in urban areas. Ramaswamy said Holly appreciated the support she received from people across the country and hopes the incident prompts local leaders to take serious action. Cincinnati Police chief Teresa Theetge announced on Monday that five people have been charged in connection with a violent street fight that broke out over the weekend in downtown Cincinnati. While the names of those charged have not been made public, Theetge said the department is using every available investigative method. Theetge expressed frustration over the lack of immediate public response, revealing that despite around 100 people being present, either involved in or watching the violence, with some even filming it, only one person called the police. Vice President JD Vance was among those who criticised the attack, saying he was appalled by footage showing "a grown man who sucker punched a middle-aged woman." "That person ought to go to jail for a very long time — and frankly, he's lucky there weren't some better people around because they would've handled it themselves," Vance said. Vance described the attackers as a "mob of lawless thugs" and called for harsh punishment. He said: "What I saw, and I haven't seen the full context, but what I saw is a mob of lawless thugs beating up on an innocent person. The only way to destroy that street violence is to take the thugs who engaged in that violence and throw their asses in prison." Other leaders, including Senator Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) and Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval, also condemned the violence, calling for justice and stronger community responsibility.
