The GOG Preservation Program is an initiative ran by PC game storefront GOG (Good Old Games) that endeavors to preserve classic games for modern PC hardware so they're always playable and accessible—even when the original developers no longer support them. Today, the program is receiving a beloved new addition from one of Capcom's most popular dormant franchises: Breath of Fire. Finally, Breath of Fire IV is playable on modern PC hardware.
Breath of Fire IV originally released on PS1 in 2000 and was eventually ported to PC a few years later. The game, just like others in the series, follows Ryu, on a sweeping adventure that spans a fantastical world full of magic, dragon powers, princesses, and more. This is a classic-style turn-based JRPG that a lot of genre fans adore.
Notably, Breath of Fire IV has a unique art style that blends pixel art characters with fully rendered 3D backgrounds and a mixture of pixel art and 3D polygonal enemies. It creates a really interesting juxtaposition that still looks unique to this day.
Here are some excerpts from the user reviews on the game's GOG page:

In terms of improvements, keep in mind this is more or less a port that's updated to run well on modern PCs but should not be considered a remaster. There are some minor updates and bug fixes though, like support for modern controllers, full compatibility with Windows 10 and Windows 11, improved DirectX rendering, windowed mode, and more.
There hasn't been a new Breath of Fire game from Capcom since Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter on PS2 in 2002, unless you count the mobile-only free-to-play spin-off from a few years ago. So far, this has been a really great year for fans of classic JRPGs.

High On Life 2 Adds More Alien Guns And Skateboarding

During today's Xbox Summer Game Fest showcase, Xbox and Squanch Games announced High On Life 2, which appears to be a bigger sequel to its hit comedy-FPS, High On Life. And here's how Xbox and Squanch describe the upcoming fast-paced comedy shooter sequel that features the new ability for players to ride around on a skateboard while shooting silly aliens with even sillier (and weirder) guns that are actually aliens. An intergalactic conspiracy threatens the fate of humanity! Team up with a wide cast of talking alien guns as you shoot, stab, and skate your way through the exotic locales to take down the bad guys and save your favorite species (humans)! In High On Life 2's announcement trailer, we got a look at some of the new alien guns players will use, including a shotgun and a bow and arrow. We also see a ton of new enemies, more varied environments, and a playable skateboard. The original High On Life launched back in 2022 on Xbox, PC, and Game Pass and was a runaway surprise hit, becoming one of the most popular games on the service. The game's snappy gunplay and jokes connected with a lot of people. But soon after its launch, Justin Roiland—the creator of Rick and Morty and co-founder of Squanch Games—found himself in hot water over troubling allegations of abuse. That lawsuit against him was eventually dropped, but not before he left the studio. Roiland also voices characters in the game. It's unlikely he'll return. High On Life 2 is arriving this winter on Xbox, PC, and Game Pass. Here is the new trailer for High On Life 2. The original game eventually landed on other platforms after launching on Xbox and PC. . Xbox kicked off its Summer Game Fest showcase by revealing the release date to The Outer Worlds 2 , the sci-fi first-person RPG from Obsidian Entertainment, via a new trailer. The sequel is coming out on October 29, 2025 and Xbox plans to follow-up its stream with an in-depth look at the game. Like the original The Outer Worlds , the sequel continues its satire of end-times capitalism, focusing in the trailer on the player character's Earth Directorate agent working against various companies vying for destructive, dangerous technology. What that looks like in practice is freezing and exploding enemies with a variety of out-of-this-world weapons — shrink rays included. Knowing Obsidian's output, there's bound to be plenty of non-lethal ways to get what you want, too. The Outer Worlds 2 is coming out on October 29, 2025 for Xbox Series X / S, PC and streaming through Xbox Cloud Streaming.

Summer Game Fest 2025: A New Era of Horror Begins With RESIDENT EVIL REQUIEM

Capcom had everyone fooled during Summer Games Fest 2025 as they teased potential upcoming information on the next installment within the Resident Evil franchise, only to drop a full trailer at the close of the show. The next video game in the beloved survival-horror franchise is titled Resident Evil Requiem. The trailer lays out part of the narrative, but also teases fans with something they have wanted for a long time—the return to Raccoon City. This will be the first time the franchise has returned to Raccoon City since the government's use of a nuclear bomb to contain the monster-making T-virus. And for many, we thought that with Albert Wesker meeting his end at the end of Resident Evil 5, going back was never going to happen. However, with the last few installments tying the current storyline back to the original, hope started to brew. RELATED: 6 Horror Queens from the Resident Evil Video Game Franchise Resident Evil Requiem Trailer Breakdown The trailer for Resident Evil Requiem introduces a new character to the franchise, Grace Ashcroft, an FBI analyst. She is also the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft, a character from the Resident Evil Outbreak series . Alyssa investigated the original outbreak in her hometown of Raccoon City and blew the cover of Umbrella. The resemblance is too uncanny not to be true. At the beginning of the sneak peek, Grace is seen typing up a report about a fourth victim of an unidentified disease found in an abandoned government office. If that isn't suspicious enough, Grace is approached by her boss, who is sending her out on an investigation tied to her current investigation. This new body has led them to the Wrenwood Hotel, the place where her mother was killed eight years ago. Things take a shocking twist as Grace finds herself tied down to a stretcher in a mysterious face. Then the trailer flashes through clips within the hotel, featuring a mysterious gentleman waiting for Grace, followed by flashes of Alyssa, and then numerous shots of Raccoon City devastated by the nuclear bomb. New Era of Horror The official website for Resident Evil Requiem states it will mark the beginning of a new era in the survival horror genre. This is thanks to the team's ability to blend technological advancements with a story full of rich characters and enhanced immersion. Capcom never holds any punches when it comes to taking their games to the next level. The graphics in the trailer look incredible, and getting a chance to tie into a lesser-known installment is exciting. RELATED: Movie Review – Welcome to Raccoon City In true Capcom fashion, little is known about the game. We don't know who the antagonist is or whether any of the franchise's iconic characters will appear. With a return to Raccoon City, we may get, at least, a cameo or two. We haven't seen any gameplay action just yet, but the Steam page does confirm that it will stay in the third-person point of view. We hope that the new installment will feature a mechanic similar to Resident Evil Biohazard, where much of Ethan finds videotapes to help flesh out the story. Grace could find similar things left behind by her mother to explain what had happened. What's Next for Resident Evil? We still have quite a bit of time before Resident Evil Requiem graces our computers and gaming platforms. This means expect more news to come. Capcom is also preparing to celebrate the franchise's 30th anniversary next year. We don't know much about their plans, but we know it's going to be big. Be sure to check back in over the next few months for updates and enjoy the brand-new trailer below. Resident Evil Requiem drops on February 27, 2026, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. RESIDENT EVIL Main Storyline Games, Ranked
