Chelsea sent final transfer message by AC Milan over Mike Maignan transfer
AC Milan sporting director Igli Tare has insisted that Mike Maignan will not leave the club this summer despite an approach from Chelsea.
Chelsea had explored a deal for Maignan before the Club World Cup as a potential upgrade on their current goalkeepeing options.
The Milan captain, who has one year left on his deal, was keen on a move to Stamford Bridge, but both sides failed to reach an agreement prior to the tournament.
Enzo Maresca's side were only willing to pay around £15million for the French international, while Milan were demanding a fee of at least £20m.
While Chelsea could seek to resurrect a deal later in the window, their chances of success would appear slim after Tare confirmed the club had no intention of letting the 29-year-old leave this summer.

'Maignan is not leaving, he will be at Milan again next season,' Tare told reporters on Tuesday.
'There was interest from a Premier League club but in the end no agreement was found.'
Tare continued: 'Also knowing that Maignan is an important point of reference not only on the pitch, but also off the pitch, we decided to focus on him for next season and to move forward together.
'Football is unpredictable, but for us he remains a point of reference in this team.'
Despite being dropped midway through last season, Robert Sanchez has regained the first-choice spot between the sticks in Maresca's side and has started both of Chelsea's games so far in the Club World Cup. More Trending
The Spaniard will once again face competition from Filip Jorgensen next season, while youngster Mike Penders could also feature after his loan at Genk last season.
Djordje Petrovic enjoyed a fruitful loan spell last season, impressing for French side Strasbourg in Ligue 1, but the Serbian is now set to leave Chelsea this summer after he was left out of Chelsea's squad for the Club World Cup.
Elsewhere, Chelsea are seeking wide attacking reinforcements after they opted to not make Jadon Sancho's loan deal permanent.
The Blues failed with two bids for Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens prior to the Club World Cup, but remain confident of agreeing a fee for the Englishman.

Liam Delap scores first goal for Chelsea as Blues progress to last 16
The former Ipswich forward struck just moments after defender Tosin Adarabioyo had opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time of their final Group D game in Philadelphia. Tyrique George scored a third in time added on at the end of the game after Chelsea had a penalty awarded for handball overturned by VAR. The result means the Londoners will now face Benfica – surprise winners of Group C ahead of Bayern Munich – in the next round in Charlotte on Saturday. It was an occasion when Delap began paying back his £30million fee. We progress to the Round of 16! ⏭️ — Chelsea FC (@ChelseaFC) June 25, 2025 With Nicolas Jackson suspended, the 22-year-old – one of just three players to retain his place as manager Enzo Maresca stuck to his plan to rotate his side – had an opportunity to cement his place. It was a chance he took on what was a hot and sticky night in Pennsylvania, with the temperature still 33C when the game kicked off at 9pm local time. His goal – coming in a quickfire double, both created by Enzo Fernandez – put the game beyond doubt before the interval. With FIFA president Gianni Infantino watching on, the Blues had already dominated the opening period. Chelsea, with a superior goal difference to Esperance, knew a draw would be sufficient to secure the runners-up spot in the group behind Flamengo. That put the onus on Esperance but, despite some attacking vibrancy, they lacked the quality up front. Delap created the first chance of the night when he skipped around two challenges but his shot was comfortably saved by Bechir Ben Said. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who has been linked with West Ham, got in a header from a Malo Gusto cross but it looked to be going wide before Yassine Meriah headed clear. Josh Acheampong forced Ben Said to save from distance but the flag was raised before Delap could get to the rebound. Another good move led to Fernandez blasting wide but Chelsea finally took control with their quickfire double in first-half stoppage time. Adarabioyo opened the scoring with a well-placed header across goal after rising to meet a Fernandez free-kick. Fernandez was again the provider as the Londoners doubled their lead moments later. This time he chipped forward for Delap and the striker turned brilliantly to beat one defender and flick past another before rolling the ball past a statuesque Ben Said. Nukunku appealed for a penalty after going down early in the second half but nothing was given before Noni Madueke sent a shot narrowly wide. Chelsea were awarded a spot-kick when an Andrey Santos effort from distance struck the arm of Meriah. It seemed a harsh decision but there was a long delay, with Christopher Nkunku stood over the ball waiting to take it, before the referee was called over the monitor. Chelsea finally got the third goal their superiority deserved when substitute George's shot squirmed through Ben Said's grasp.

Wednesday's briefing: England Under-21s feel the heat as Bale plans for big role
Gareth Bale is pursuing the purchase of Cardiff while Bayern Munich were beaten in their final Club World Cup game. Building towards the #U21EURO semi-final!👊📈 — England (@England) June 24, 2025 Lee Carsley will not allow the heat to be an excuse as England Under-21s prepare to face the Netherlands in the European Championship semi-finals in Bratislava, where temperatures will swelter above 30 degrees celsius. Carsley's side beat tournament favourites Spain in the quarter-finals to take a big step towards defending their title in Slovakia. 'We've not shied away from the heat,' Carsley said. 'We've exposed the players to it fully. We're ready for it. We're fully prepared now.' 🦅 @SLBenfica secure an historic win against @FCBayern to move things around in Group C. 🔢 — FIFA Club World Cup (@FIFACWC) June 24, 2025 Benfica topped Group C of the Club World Cup with a 1-0 win over Bayern Munich. Andreas Schjelderup's early goal settled the match in sweltering conditions in Charlotte as the Portuguese side set up a last-16 tie with Chelsea or Esperance de Tunis. This was their first ever victory over the German champions and Bruno Lage's side could be dark horses for the tournament. Bayern dominated the second half and had chances to earn at least a draw, with Joshua Kimmich having a goal disallowed and Leroy Sane missing two big one-on-one chances, as they go through to play Flamengo. Gareth Bale believes he is the right person to lead Cardiff back to the Premier League and intends to be heavily involved if the investment group he is working with complete a takeover, a source close to the 35-year-old has said. Bale spoke publicly about his interest in purchasing the League One club on Monday, saying it would be a 'dream come true' if a deal could be done. Asked what sort of role Bale might take on, the source said: 'A very significant one. He is not going to be a bit-part player. 'This is a guy who has been super-successful and doesn't need to put his name to something just for the sake of it. He would be heavily involved. He believes he is the right person for this.' A message from Rob 🤳 — Middlesbrough FC (@Boro) June 24, 2025 Rob Edwards has been appointed as Middlesbrough's new head coach on a three-year deal. The 42-year-old, who left Luton by mutual consent in January, replaces former Manchester United and England midfielder Michael Carrick, whose reign was brought to a close earlier this month after the Teessiders missed out on the Sky Bet Championship play-offs. A statement on the club's official website said: 'Middlesbrough are delighted to announce the appointment of Rob Edwards as our new head coach. 'A Premier League promotion winner, he joins the club on a three-year contract and is joined in the dugout by Adi Viveash and Harry Watling. Together as one 👊 — England (@England) June 24, 2025 England Under-21s will hope to emulate the senior team 12 months ago by beating the Netherlands in the European Championship semi-final. Germany and France battle it out in the other semi-finals. Group F of the Club World Cup comes to a close as Borussia Dortmund take on Ulsan HD while Mamelodi Sundowns play Fluminense. In the early hours of Thursday morning, Inter Milan are up against River Plate and Urawa Reds play Monterrey.

Dusan Vlahovic already sent Ruben Amorim telling message amid Man Utd swap deal
Dusan Vlahovic has made it clear what Manchester United and Ruben Amorim can expect from him if he completes a swap deal from Juventus this summer, with Jadon Sancho potentially going the opposite way Dusan Vlahovic has let Ruben Amorim know exactly the type of player Manchester United could be getting if they sign him this summer, saying he 'likes pressure' and is 'totally dedicated' to football. The Juventus striker has been linked with the Red Devils this week as part of a swap deal which would see him join United and Jadon Sancho head to Turin. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Serbian is deemed surplus to requirements at Juventus, who will try to offload him while securing United wantaway Sancho. Amorim is currently in the market for a new striker and, with Vlahovic inside the final 12 months of his contract, swapping Sancho for the 25-year-old could be a financially savvy move. United have been guilty of splashing out huge sums of money in recent years on various players who have crumbled under the bright Old Trafford lights, becoming a shadow of the players they once were. But Vlahovic presents a low-risk transfer opportunity both economically and due to the fact that he prides himself on his mental strength. When asked by The Telegraph if he feels any pressure back in 2022, the Serbia international was almost insulted by the suggestion. He said: 'I like pressure. I like high expectations because I like the kind of adrenalin that comes out. I have never really suffered too much from pressure. Maybe when I was younger but not now and in 10 years time I will probably feel even better about it. I don't really care too much when people talk about pressure.' The expectations are indeed high at United, where the team is expected to win silverware and qualify for Europe next season despite finishing near the relegation zone this term. Yet, Vlahovic appears to have the appetite to succeed - something Amorim undoubtedly values highly. He added: 'I never want to rest. I am dedicated 24/7 and when I go home, what do I do? I watch football matches! I watch to have fun, to enjoy, but also to learn and improve. You notice things and figure them out and think, 'I could have done this or that.' 'I like spending time with my family, who have always been my force, and friends. I don't like video games. I am not very good at them. I prefer going for a walk! 'In the past I had the time to read books, but not now. Basically I am completely dedicated to football and, for me, it's only the beginning, by the way. The best is yet to come.' It remains to be seen, however, if Vlahovic would entertain a move to the struggling Premier League side. He is said to have been 'unreceptive' to previous offers to leave Juventus and already snubbed proposals from Saudi Arabia and Turkey. Vlahovic is also no stranger to Premier League links. He was pursued by Arsenal before signing for Juve in a £60million deal back in 2021 and has also been the subject of interest from Chelsea in the past. Juventus are expected to push to sign Sancho, who is no longer wanted at Old Trafford, even if Vlahovic is not part of the deal. Gazzetta dello Sport claims they are willing to offer other players to United in a bid to get a deal for the winger over the line, including midfielder Douglas Luiz. Sancho is expected to leave the Red Devils on a permanent deal after Chelsea paid £5m to waive their obligation to buy clause at the end of his unsuccessful season-long loan move at Stamford Bridge. Napoli have also been credited with an interest in Sancho's services, but Juve are pushing to beat the Italian champions to a deal.
