India-US trade pact will be finalised soon: Jitin Prasada
Prasada was in the state capital to attend a conference on 'Rising UP, 8 years of successful governance' organised by the Indo -American Chamber of Commerce.
Deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak, who was also present along with minister of state (Independent charge) for horticulture, agricultural marketing Dinesh Singh, said improvement in law and order has brought about a significant change in the state.
For his part, Prasada said Uttar Pradesh is now becoming an infrastructure hub and aims to be the number one state in the country.
He stressed that it is everyone's responsibility to make Uttar Pradesh a developed state.
He highlighted the state's significant progress in the last eight years, surpassing all benchmarks.
He mentioned Operation Sindoor, emphasising that terrorist incidents affect the economy.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the dream of a self-reliant India is being realized despite various challenges, he said.
He emphasised that India's 140 crore population is not just a number but a strength, enabling the country to face every situation with confidence.
Prasada noted that several countries depend on India, and the country now negotiates on an equal footing with other nations.
The government has made significant progress in infrastructure development, including roads, expressways, transportation, and law and order, the Union minister said
The BrahMos missiles manufactured in Lucknow will enhance the military's strength, and a tiger reserve is being established in Pilibhit, the minister said.
Deputy chief minister said Brajesh Pathak highlighted that the government has provided over eight lakh jobs to youth in the last eight years and that more than two crore youth are engaged in self-employment through the MSME sector.
'Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a leader in the MSME sector, with over 96 lakh MSME units. The state's exports have increased from ₹86,000 crore to over ₹2 lakh crore,' Pathak said.
'The One District, One Product (ODOP) initiative has given Uttar Pradesh global recognition of products like Pilibhit's bamboo flutes, Amroha's dholaks and Bhadohi's carpets,' the deputy CM said.
Pathak added that eight years ago, Uttar Pradesh was facing significant challenges, including farmer suicides, insecurity for youth and women, and economic instability due to riots and anarchy.
The state has 17 airports operating at full capacity, and the government is working on enhancing railway infrastructure. The number of MBBS seats has tripled, and the government has improved education and healthcare infrastructure, said Pathak.
Minister of state (independent charge) for horticulture and agricultural marketing Dinesh Singh said food processing units will enhance the value of farmers' produce.
The minister urged industrial units to collaborate with farmers by establishing food processing units, which can help in value addition and provide better prices to farmers for their produce.

Defence panel reviews women's role; Rajnath vows greater representation
The parliamentary consultative committee on defence, headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, was briefed on representation of women in the armed forces. Mr. Singh spoke on the government's commitment to provide maximum representation to women in the forces. As per the data from Ministry of Defence (MoD), 13.4% women constitute IAF (Indian Air force) workforce — highest among all three services — while they comprise 6.85% of Army's workforce and 6% of the Navy's. In 2024, there were a total of 1735 women in the Army, 1614 in the Air Force and 674 in the Navy. In 2005, the figure was 767 for the Army, 154 for the Navy and 574 for the Air Force. 12 branches in the Army are open to women officers including combat. In the Navy, all branches are open for women officers except submarines. All branches of the Air force are open for women officers. On being asked about women's representation in the armed forces, a senior MoD official said that they are opening more and more branches for women in the armed forces for all categories. Women are eligible for various roles, including technical and non-technical positions, and can join through different entry schemes. Most of the defence training institutes and academies have been opened for women. Colonel Sofiya Qureshi of the Indian Army, who led the Operation Sindoor briefing along with Wing Commander Vyomika Singh of the Air Force have become an inspiration for women aiming to join the armed forces. Another senior defence officer said that women in the armed forces are doing remarkably well and their number is only going to increase in future as the forces adopt a more gender neutral approach.

Rahul Gandhi ‘certified anti-national', says BJP after Supreme Court pulls up Congress MP
The Bharatiya Janata Party launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, describing him as a "certified anti-national" after the Supreme Court reprimanded him over his remarks about the Indian Army. BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said with the top court's observations, Rahul Gandhi's credibility has gone down to "zero".(PTI) The BJP alleged that Gandhi has vowed to "weaken India and strengthen China", claiming that the "China Guru" and his party "hate" the Indian armed forces. They demanded an apology from him and the Congress for his remarks. The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the proceedings against the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha before a Lucknow court for his remarks about the Army during his December 2022 Bharat Jodo Yatra. However, the top court bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and Augustine George Masih slammed Gandhi, saying that he would not say such a thing if he were a true Indian. Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan said in a post on X that for the first time in India's parliamentary history, a Supreme Court had to make a "stern remark" against a Leader of the Opposition. "Rahul Gandhi and the Congress have a history of insulting the army, whether it is the surgical strike or Operation Sindoor. They have questioned the sacrifices of our brave soldiers at every opportunity," Pradhan said in a post on X. He said that the Congress' loyalty is not to the nation but only to one family, which is why respect for the nation is not even a part of their "fundamental thinking". "Today, the entire country is hurt by this anti-national mentality and expects an apology from Rahul Gandhi and the Congress," Pradhan added. BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia also cited the apex court's observations and alleged that Rahul Gandhi keeps making "immature, irresponsible and anti-India comments" even though various courts have rapped the Congress leader for such remarks in the past. "Today when the Supreme Court's comment has come, it won't be wrong to say that Rahul Gandhi has certainly vowed to weaken India and strengthen China," Bhatia said during a press conference. The BJP spokesperson claimed that the LoP signed a party-to-party memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Communist Party of China. "That's why Rahul Gandhi was saying that our soldiers were thrashed by Chinese soldiers, be it (in) Doklam or Galwan, while every Indian was standing by India and brave soldiers of India," he said. Bhatia added that they never tell the people of India what was in that MoU with the Communist Party of China. "It seems Rahul Gandhi has love for China and Pakistan in his veins, but no love for India," Bhatia added. The BJP spokesperson termed the Supreme Court's observations as "very serious" and said that with this, Gandhi's credibility has gone down to "zero". "Does India deserve a more responsible and a better Leader of Opposition (LoP)? As the LoP who has taken oath under the Constitution to protect the sovereignty of our country, is he destroying the sovereignty of our country? Is he helping nations that are inimical to our country? Is he demoralising the brave Indian armed forces?" he asked. Additionally, BJP leader Amit Malviya took on the Congress leader for his "dead" economy remark, calling it a "diplomatic disaster on multiple fronts". "His recent 'dead economy' jibe is just the latest in a long series. In doing so, he implicitly admitted that Russia, a long-standing ally, is struggling, while bizarrely endorsing a hostile state like Pakistan as having a robust economy," he said. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla referred to Gandhi's remarks on the surgical strike and Operation Sindoor, alleging that the Congress leader and his party "hate" Indian armed forces. In a post on X, he said, "Sena ka Apman Congress ki pehchan (Insulting the Army is the hallmark of the Congress). Rahul and Congress hate Indian Armed Forces. Today SC has slammed him." BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari also said that the Supreme Court's condemnation of Gandhi exposed him. "Supreme Court asks Rahul Gandhi - 'How did you know that China had occupied land?'" he said. Bhandari said that this question did not "expose" Gandhi, but further got the attention back on the "secret MoU that Gandhi-Vadra family had with China". "Rahul is working under the remote control of foreign forces," he charged.

Rajya Sabha was adjourned as a mark of respect following the passing of sitting Member Shibu Soren, Lok Sabha was adjourned amid protests by Opposition members on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar. The Lok Sabha witnessed two adjournments today, the first at 11 AM till 2 PM and the second at 2 PM for the day because of noisy protests by the Opposition demanding a discussion on the SIR process in Bihar. For the third week in a row, the Parliament has faced adjournments related to the SIR of electoral rolls in Bihar. However, last week both Houses engaged in a two-day discussion on Operation Sindoor with active participation from both the Treasury and Opposition benches. Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day as a mark of respect following the demise of sitting Member of Parliament Shibu Soren. The members paid homage to the former Jharkhand Chief Minister and founder of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, who passed away today at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi after a prolonged illness. When the House convened at 11 am, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh expressed condolences, describing Shibu Soren as a senior and distinguished tribal leader who played a pivotal role in advocating for the rights and welfare of tribal communities.
