Netflix's Untamed ending explained from Lucy's killer to meaning behind screams
*Warning - this article contains major spoilers for Untamed*
Netflix's latest crime drama limited series has quickly become the number one most watched show on the platform.
Untamed currently holds the top spot in the top 10 charts. It seems viewers have opted in great numbers to binge watch the latest release over the weekend.
In the six-part drama, Eric Bana stars as a federal agent who works for the National Parks Service. He is tasked with investigating the unusual death of a young woman in Yosemite National Park. In particular, how she ended up falling off El Capitan mountain.
There is so much packed in to its half dozen episodes, it would be no surprise if some fans missed a detail or two by the finale. This includes what happened to Lucy and who she really was, along with what really happened to Caleb and the true reason Agent Turner's marriage fell apart.
Here's all you need to know about the biggest moments from Untamed's finale:
Who killed Lucy Cook in Untamed and who was her real father?
The history of Lucy Cook is just as important in Untamed as what happened to her. She lived with her mother Maggie, until her death from cancer. Lucy was still a child when her mother died so was left in the care of her father. Or rather, who people believed was her father at the time.
He was violent and abusive and so Lucy was taken away and left at a foster home in Nevada. At the time, it was thought Lucy went missing and many presumed her father killer her. He died in a bar fight three years later.
The person who whisked her away is revealed to be her real father, Paul Souter, played by Sam Neill, who had an affair with Lucy's mother and kept it secret for decades.
Unfortunately, the foster home was also a place full of abuse and Lucy eventually escaped. She returned to the park where she apparently extorted her real father for money, before getting herself mixed up in the drug trade taking place within the park.
Wanting to put an end to the blackmail he was suffering, Paul chased Lucy down one night. Firing off what he intended as a warning shot, he hit her in the leg. She ran away from him, but died from her injuries before falling off El Capitan.
After Paul admits what he did , he still cannot bear the thought of the truth being revealed to his wife and children. He takes his gun and turns it on himself.
What happened to Caleb in Untamed?
During the investigation into Lucy's death it quickly becomes clear that Agent Turner is set to be confronted by his past. Little by little, viewers discover that this is related to the fate of his own child, his only son Caleb.
It is also linked to the case of a missing person: Sean Sanderson. Turner and his wife have always known what happened to Sanderson.
He is the man who abducted and murdered Caleb in the park. They discovered this thanks to cameras set up by wildlife maintenance officer Shane Maguire. Instead of handing this information to authorities, for some reason Turner's wife Jill hires Maguire to kill Sanderson.
She did this without the knowledge of her husband. After he found out, their marriage quickly broke apart.
Maguire seemed to initially believe he would get away with his role in the drug ring because of the information he held over Turner and his wife. However, Turner still attempts to arrest him in an altercation which quickly turns violent and results in Vasquez shooting Maguire dead.
What were the screaming heard in Untamed's last episode?
The series, in a similar way to another hit crime drama show True Detective, leans into the idea of the supernatural. That becomes clearly apparent when it is revealed that Turner keeps seeing and speaking to the spirit of his young son.
He believes that Caleb is still present in the park and at more than one point he contemplates joining him on the other side. Near the end of series, muffled screams can be heard as Turner looks out over the water. This will be more obvious if you're someone who watches with the subtitles switched on.
Turner's friend Jay warns him that a 'Wuyi' might come up from the water and snatch him. He adds that the 'little ghost' doesn't take anyone unless they want to be taken before asking if Turner has heard his screams.
Where does Agent Kyle Turner go at the end of Untamed?
Bana's Turner is a changed man by the end of the series. At the beginning, he is contemplating if he can even go on living, but is somehow compelled to see the latest investigation through.
By the end, he is now ready to say goodbye to parts of the past that haunts him. However, he no longer feels like he is abandoning the spirit or positive memories of his son and is able to finally leave Yosemite for good, acknowledging that Caleb will always be with him.
He is still suspended from his job, so at this point in time we can only assume he is not travelling to be positioned at a different National Park. Perhaps instead he is having to relocate to somewhere he is less comfortable, like a bigger city, mirroring the change made by Naya Vasquez.

Appealing to parents yesterday, MI5 boss Sir Ken McCallum said: 'In a few clicks, young people can be speaking to terrorists online, consuming violent content. 'Terrorists are using slick propaganda to pull young people down a dangerous and potentially life-changing path.' He joined chiefs from the National Crime Agency and Counter Terrorism Policing to urge parents and carers to be vigilant about children's use of the internet. It was the first such warning ever issued and comes after heads of the 'Five Eyes' nations — the UK, US, Australia, New Zealand and Canada — last year called for action to combat the growing threat to kids posed by online extremism. I know why desperate Meghan and Harry REALLY held peace talks – they'll be begging for handouts now, expert claims
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A ROYAL expert has claimed the real reason why Meghan and Harry held peace talks, saying the Duke and Duchess will now be begging for handouts. Journalist and author Robert Jobson made the revealing comments whilst appearing on The Sun's latest Royal Exclusive show. Mr Jobson, talking to The Sun's Matt Wilkinson said: 'Well, the deal was always set about $100 million, wasn't it? 'And the talk of that figure sort of blew a lot of people's minds, but I think that was for productions and things that they're supposed to have done. 'Where does it leave them? Probably with a bit of a bowl out, looking for some handouts.' He added: 'Maybe that's why they were over with their staff, were over here having discussions with the King. I don't know. 'The reality is in the past they got support from the King and the late Queen, and they said they were going to go and make their way. 'They've lost Spotify, they've lost Netflix. 'They can't rely on the spare money forever, can they?' The show's other guest, Sky News' royal correspondent Rhiannon Mills also speculated what the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would now do for money. She said: 'It's just fascinating. They have this very expensive lifestyle. Meghan and Harry must need more money - their staff induction bill alone will be HUGE 'They have to pay for their security, pay for that big mansion. 'How do you kind of keep the money coming in?' Earlier this month it was revealed Netflix will not renew their contract when it expires in September. The Sussexes and Netflix have mutually decided not to make an official announcement. But streaming execs have quietly agreed to part ways. It comes after Harry's vanity project, Polo, about the sport, was watched by just 500,000 people. It was also understood that bosses were mildly infuriated by Meghan making her As Ever brand a priority. A source said streamer Paramount+ was thought to be keen to work with the couple, who would be open to it if the right project came along. Last month it was announced Netflix had signed a deal with King Charles and Idris Elba for a documentary exploring the impact of the King's Trust. And it was understood any deal with the Sussexes could be seen as a hindrance to that link-up. Netflix declined to comment. Harry is said to have 'given his blessing' for the peace talks involving two of his team plus the King and Queen's director of communications. They spoke about potential ways to end their family conflict, though a proposal for Harry to make a royal return was not on the agenda. Adding intrigue to the developments, Prince William's team were not involved in the London summit. California-based Harry is next due to visit the UK in September for the annual WellChild events. It opens up the prospect of meeting his father for the first time in 18 months. Buckingham Palace had also supported the proposals to 'open a channel of communication' — it has been claimed. 5 The loss of the Netflix deal comes after the couple lost their deal with Spotify Credit: AP

Prince Harry dealt 'financial blow' after major update to his and Meghan's Netflix deal
Reports have suggested Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Netflix deal is not going to be renewed - and a source has revealed why Harry will be impacted most Prince Harry will have been dealt a significant blow after Netflix reportedly decided not to renew his and Meghan Markle's multi-million-dollar deal, according to sources. The Sussexes are believed to have signed a five-year deal worth around $100million in September 2000 with the streaming giant to produce a raft of content. However, apart from their first offering - their controversial docuseries Harry & Meghan - their following shows on the streaming platform have not matched its success. In fact, last week, it emerged that Meghan's lifestyle and cookery show, With Love, Meghan, failed to make it into Netflix's top 300 most-watched shows for 2025. Now sources have said the deal with Netflix will not be renewed when it expires, with one insider telling PEOPLE magazine it reflects a broader shift in the streamer's business strategy. Meanwhile, another source told The Sun that the deal had "run its course" and that Netflix felt they had got "all they could" from the couple. And they added it could prove a huge financial hit for the couple, especially Harry. The source said: "Netflix execs are well aware Meghan's priority now is her own brand, and they won't play second fiddle to that. "Publicly, there will not be a statement, and of course, if things change dramatically, they'd be open to a one-off project down the line. But for Harry, especially, this will be a blow. It's a huge loss of revenue." The Mirror has contacted Netflix and the office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for comment. When they first signed the deal with Netflix, the couple said: "Our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope. As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us." Ted Sarandos, Netflix's chief content officer and co-chief executive, also said at the time: "We're incredibly proud they have chosen Netflix as their creative home and are excited about telling stories with them that can help build resilience and increase understanding for audiences everywhere." But speaking in their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, Harry memorably said he and Meghan signed lucrative deals with the likes of Netflix and Spotify after being financially cut off from the royals - leaving them with hefty security bills. Harry said deals with the streaming giants were "never part of the plan", but said they needed cash to pay for security. He said: "That was suggested by somebody else by the point of where my family literally cut me off financially, and I had to afford security for us." The couple's deal with Spotify was said to be worth $25million but came to an end after just several episodes of a joint podcast and one series of Meghan's podcast, Archetypes. The 12-episode series saw Meghan chat with different celebrity pals, including tennis icon Serena Williams, legendary singer Mariah Carey, and socialite Paris Hilton. But when the Sussexes' deal with the streaming platform came to an end, they were brutally described as "f***ing grifters" by a top Spotify executive. Bill Simmons, head of podcast innovation and monetisation at Spotify, hit out at the Sussexes in an episode of his own podcast, saying: "The f***ing grifters. That's the podcast we should have launched with them." Get Royal Family updates straight to your WhatsApp!
