End of Article 370 brought prosperity in Kashmir, Pakistan aims to undo it: Salman Khurshid in Jakarta

First Posta day ago

Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid hailed the abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, insisting that the region has seen development since the move. Khurshid's remarks came during his visit to Indonesia as part of India's all-party delegation's outreach initiative.
While dismantling false propaganda by Pakistan about the ongoing tensions with India, Khurshid brought up the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government's landmark move in August 2019 to permanently scrap the article that gave special status to the former state of J&K. Khurshid was addressing the Indonesian think Tanks and Academia on Thursday. He is part of the delegation team, led by JD(U) MP Sanjay Jha.

In his remarks, the Congress leader called Article 370 a 'major problem" that was finally put to an end in 2019. Khurshid noted that there is a government in the region today which was elected with the participation of over 60 per cent of voters in the region, ANI reported.
'Kashmir had a major problem for a long time. Much of that was reflected in the thinking of the government in an article called Article 370 of the Constitution, which somehow gave the impression that it was separate from the rest of the country. But Article 370 was abrogated, and it was finally put to an end," the Congress MP said.
'Subsequently, there was an election with 65 per cent participation in the election. There's an elected government in Kashmir today, and therefore, for people to want to undo everything that has happened, the prosperity that has come to Kashmir," he added.
Don't hyphenate between India and Pakistan
Another crucial message Khurshid shared in Indonesia is the demand not to hyphenate India and Pakistan. On Friday, Khurshid noted that India cannot be reduced to the 'size' and 'stature' of Pakistan. 'We are asked, why did we stop?… We are not Pakistan; we are much larger than they are. We have a greater role in the world… We got respect not only for our strengths but also for showing confidence in our strengths. We had to do certain things to teach Pakistan a lesson, and then we stopped because we are not greedy for Pakistan, their territory, or to destroy them,' he said during an interaction with the Indian community in Indonesia, ANI.
'We only want to preserve and protect ourselves… We want to lead the world. And in that leadership role, we cannot reduce ourselves to the size and stature of Pakistan… We don't want a hyphen between India and Pakistan… Talk to us separately… The beauty of our plural culture, the beauty of how we live together and celebrate life together, is something that we want to show… We are patriots. We believe in humanity. We believe in our country because our country is our mother,' he furthered.

The Congress leader made it clear that India did not initiate contact with Pakistan but rather received a call from the neighbouring nation's DGMO for cessation of hostilities during 'Operation Sindoor'. He noted that India has refrained from further attacks since then.

Amit Shah accuses Bengal CM of opposing Op Sindoor: ‘Killing of terrorists troubling Mamata Banerjee'

Home minister Amit Shah on Sunday launched a scathing attack on West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of 'opposing' Operation Sindoor. "Under Operation Sindoor, we conducted a deep strike 100 kilometers into Pakistan, targeting their headquarters. Numerous terrorists were killed, but this seems to trouble Mamata Ji" Shah said while addressing party leaders and workers in Kolkata. Shah also reiterated that Operation Sindoor — India's military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack – was not over. "...Mamata Banerjee may favour the Pakistani terrorists as much as she wants, but I want to tell her that this is PM Modi's government and Operation Sindoor is not yet over. Anyone who dares anything will be given a proper answer..." he said, according to ANI news agency. Shah also alleged that Mamata Banerjee was opposing Operation Sindoor to appease the Muslim vote bank. Mamata Banerjee had recently accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP of trying to exploit Operation Sindoor — India's military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack – for political gains. During Sunday's speech, Amit Shah said that the communal violence in Murshidabad in April was 'state sponsored' and the accused the Mamata Banerjee-led government of opposing the deployment of BSF. 'The MHA kept on insisting about the deployment of BSF during the Murshidabad riots, but the TMC government didn't allow it to happen so that the violence could continue,' Shah alleged, according to PTI. He also alleged that the TMC government in the state was facilitating illegal infiltration from Bangladesh. 'We requested land to build a fence along the border, which would effectively prevent infiltration from Bangladesh into India. However, you have deliberately avoided providing the required land, allowing unchecked infiltration to continue and thereby expanding your vote bank,' Shah said. 'It is evident that your priority lies in securing your nephew's political succession rather than addressing the pressing issue of border security,' he added.

Shah, addressing party leaders and workers here, also alleged that the recent riots in Murshidabad were "state-sponsored". "To appease the Muslim vote bank, Mamata didi opposed Operation Sindoor. Newly formed taluks will get Praja Soudhas as government-sanctioned administrative approvals

With Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah handing over the administrative approval letter to the Deputy Commissioner, Yadgir, the long-pending demand of the people of newly formed taluks to have a taluk administrative building is likely to be fulfilled in a year. Mr. Siddaramaiah handed over the letter to B. Susheela, Deputy Commissioner, after new taluks got administrative approval during the recent meeting held at Bengaluru. Yadgir district had three taluks — Yadgir, Shahapur and Shorapur (Surpur) then. But these taluks were divided when Chief Minister Jagadish Shetter announced it in 2013, as Gurmitkal divided from Yadgir, Wadagera from Shahapur and Hunsagi from Shorapur, respectively. Despite the announcement, new taluks weren't provided the taluk administrative buildings even after many years. Therefore, it was forced to function with the locally available government buildings. But, lack of sufficient space for administration, the officers and general public as well faced difficulties, more particularly in summer. Considering the necessity, the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government had promised to construct new taluk administrative buildings and named them 'Praja Soudha' and approved the proposal during the cabinet meeting held at Kalaburagi in September last year. After necessary formalities, taluks have finally got the administrative approval for the construction of Praja Soudhas in each taluk at a cost of ₹ 8.60 crore in two phases. Both Wadagera and Hunsagi taluks were represented by Congress MLAs Channareddy Patil Tunnur and Raja Venugopal Naik, while Gurmitkal was represented by JD(S) MLA Sharanagouda Kandkur. It is learnt that all MLAs have put their hands together for Praja Soudhas get administrative approval. 'The Chief Minister has shown special concern to build administrative buildings in the newly formed taluks, as they were much needed for the smooth functioning of daily activities and public convenience. The new Praja Soudha buildings will have all basic facilities and other requirements as people wanted,' Mr. Tunnur reacted. 'The Yadgir district has remained backward with a lack of civic facilities and government buildings. The government should establish other required buildings, including courts, for taluks for overall development,' Sharanu Gadduge, a pro-Kannada activist, has urged.
