Egypt, Australia explore expanding healthcare cooperation, green transformation initiatives

Chairperson of the Egypt Healthcare Authority (EHA), Ahmed El-Sobky, met with Australian Ambassador to Egypt Axel Wabenhorst to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation across various healthcare fields, with a focus on knowledge exchange, medical training, and sustainable health practices.
El-Sobky noted that discussions included the launch of a proposed twinning programme between Sydney Children's Hospital and Ramsey Health Care Group in Australia, and El-Nasr Specialized Children's Hospital in Port Said, as well as other pediatric units within the EHA network. The initiative aims to advance pediatric care services in Egypt by fostering knowledge transfer, joint training programmes, and the adoption of global best practices in subspecialties.
During the meeting, El-Sobky also presented the EHA's strategy for sustainability and green transformation. He highlighted the achievements of Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital and Port Said Specialized Ophthalmology Hospital, which have both received international recognition from the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals (GGHH) network. These accolades underscore Egypt's commitment to embedding environmental sustainability into its healthcare system.
El-Sobky expressed the authority's keen interest in collaborating with Australia on sustainable healthcare initiatives, emphasizing the importance of sharing expertise to support the EHA's green strategy. This direction aligns with Egypt's broader national efforts toward sustainable development and the global shift toward environmentally conscious health systems.
The meeting also covered several proposed areas of cooperation, including medical tourism, joint research on clinical care quality indicators, advanced training programmes for healthcare providers, and exchange visits for medical delegations to Australia. These initiatives are designed to enhance healthcare delivery, boost the performance of medical teams, and further position Egypt as a regional hub for quality healthcare services.
El-Sobky underscored Egypt's potential as a promising market for healthcare investment and extended an invitation to Ambassador Wabenhorst to visit the Suez Medical Complex—one of the flagship facilities of the EHA in the Canal Governorates.
For his part, Ambassador Wabenhorst praised Egypt's significant strides in healthcare, describing them as a 'qualitative leap.' He expressed enthusiasm for deepening collaboration and reaffirmed Australia's commitment to supporting ongoing and future health partnerships with Egypt.

State-owned Holdipharma targets EGP 18bn in revenues for FY2025/2026

Mohamed El-Shimy, Minister of Public Enterprises, affirmed that the pharmaceutical industry is a vital pillar of health security and a key driver of the national economy, stressing that its development within the ministry's affiliated companies is a strategic priority. His remarks came while chairing the General Assembly meeting of the Holding Company for Pharmaceuticals (Holdipharma) to approve the budget plan for the 2025/2026 fiscal year. During the meeting, Ashraf El-Khouly, CEO and Managing Director of Holdipharma, presented the board's report, which included the draft budget for the coming fiscal year. The plan targets consolidated revenues of EGP 18bn, a 131% increase compared to 2023/2024, and net profits of EGP 3.4bn—up 343%. The report also noted the growth in the market value of the group's listed companies. The meeting, attended by Board Chair Ahmed Hegazy, members of the General Assembly, and representatives of the Central Auditing Organisation, marked the final approval of all holding companies' and subsidiaries' budgets for the new fiscal year. Minister El-Shimy explained that the ministry is working to localise and deepen pharmaceutical manufacturing, transfer and apply the latest global production technologies, and enhance product quality to strengthen competitiveness in local, regional, and international markets. Development plans include upgrading production lines, increasing manufacturing capacity, adhering to the highest standards of sustainability, quality, and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), ensuring occupational health and safety, and optimising the use of assets, capacities, and resources. He added that human capital development is central to achieving these targets, through specialised training and qualification programmes that encourage innovation and advance scientific research, alongside fostering partnerships with the private sector both domestically and internationally. These measures aim to increase production and export capacity, and open new markets to bolster the competitiveness of the national industry. El-Shimy stressed that reforming the financial structures of subsidiary companies is a top priority to ensure sustainable profitability and secure the resources needed for production expansion. He underscored the importance of updating organisational structures and management systems to meet current needs, while accelerating the implementation of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to improve operational efficiency and ensure precise oversight of resources and production. The presentation also highlighted major projects and investment opportunities, including the production of biological drugs, insulin and biosimilars, dry powder inhalation tablets, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), and hormones. It outlined partnerships with leading international companies, such as US-based Dawah, to produce and export products including ampoules, nutritional supplements, sterile injections, and sterile ophthalmic preparations. El-Shimy concluded by stressing the integration of economic, social, and environmental dimensions to ensure comprehensive sustainability in the company's activities. He called for promoting professional conduct, improving the work environment, and raising performance standards across all administrative and executive levels. He affirmed that the Ministry of Public Enterprises Sector is moving decisively towards modernising and restructuring its subsidiaries, striking a balance between profitability and sustainability, and enhancing Egypt's competitiveness regionally and globally. Holdipharma, he added, aims to achieve regional leadership in the sector, positioning Egypt as an advanced hub for pharmaceutical production and exports, meeting domestic needs while expanding into international markets.

Your Skin in Summer: Common Problems and Effective Solutions

Pasant Elzaitony With soaring temperatures and longer hours under the sun, your skin faces unique challenges during the summer months. Excessive sweating, high humidity, and strong UV rays can affect its glow and health, making proper care essential. 1. Sunburn and Skin Darkening Extended sun exposure increases melanin production, leading to tanning, dark spots, and sometimes painful sunburn. Treatment & Prevention: Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 50, reapplying every two hours. Wear wide-brimmed hats and UV-protective sunglasses. Soothe burns with aloe vera gel or cool compresses. 2. Skin Dryness and Dehydration Hot weather can strip the skin of its natural moisture, causing dryness and flakiness. Treatment & Prevention: Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Use hydrating creams rich in hyaluronic acid or glycerin. Opt for gentle cleansers instead of harsh soaps. 3. Acne and Breakouts Sweat, excess oil, and clogged pores often trigger acne flare-ups in summer. Treatment & Prevention: Wash your face twice daily with a cleanser designed for oily or combination skin. Use products containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Avoid touching or squeezing pimples to prevent scarring. 4. Pigmentation and Melasma Sun exposure can worsen pigmentation, especially in sensitive skin. Treatment & Prevention: Apply sunscreen with antioxidants like Vitamin C. Use brightening creams containing niacinamide or arbutin. Consider professional treatments such as laser or chemical peels for severe cases. 5. Skin Irritation and Rashes Sweating and friction from clothing can lead to rashes or redness. Treatment & Prevention: Wear loose, breathable cotton clothing. Apply baby powder or soothing creams with panthenol. Avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours (10 AM to 4 PM). Bottom Line: Summer is a season of fun, but it can be tough on your skin. Consistent care and smart protection are the keys to maintaining a healthy, radiant complexion all season long. read more 15 Ludicrous Cosplay Costumes That Will Blow You Away Watch... Chris Hemsworth Reveals 'Gear Shift' in His Life since Learning About Alzheimer's Risk

Yara Sameh Chris Hemsworth has opened up about finding out he had a greater chance of developing Alzheimer's disease was a "gear shift" in his life motivations During a genetic test in season one of "Limitless: Live Better Now," the Australian actor discovered that he is, biologically, eight to 10 times more likely than others to have the brain disorder during his lifetime as he carries two copies of the APOE4 gene. He had first taken part in the National Geographic show to be its "guinea pig" and face new experiences that challenge the body and mind. But after taking the test, the 41-year-old Thor, Furiosa and Transformers star was faced with an unexpected truth. One in every 50 people inherits two copies of the APOE4 gene and research has found that nearly all double carriers show key early signs of the disease which causes dementia by the age of 55. Everyone's risk is different, and evidence suggests there are things you can do to reduce your risk whether you're a carrier of the gene or not, including not smoking, reducing alcohol intake, daily exercise, monitoring cholesterol and blood pressure and eating a balanced diet. Speaking of when he found out he was a double carrier, Hemsworth told Sky News: "It was just kind of this point in my life where up until your 40s, you're kind of gathering data and information and it's all reactionary and then you get to a point where you think, oh some of this sort of identity that I've sort of built doesn't hold anymore. "There's some inner sort of protest or inner voice that has a deeper need to understand and there's deeper questions and what is the purpose and the why behind what I'm doing ... and what am I seeking, what am I contributing, as opposed to just what I am collecting." Reacting on screen, he said it made him shift his focus to living better and increase the chances of him spending as much time as possible with his family and friends. What's changed in the second season? The change in mindset is evident in season two. "This time around, I was very involved in the orchestration and the sort of production and bringing together spaces that I was interested in or there was a deep curiosity or were deeply personal to me. And it was more sort of experiential journalism as opposed to a contestant in a challenging kind of fun, reality show. He added: "I was much more committed or invested in the experience. And I was a bit more educated on the topics too. I had to research, I had a deeper point of view, I suppose, personally, but also sort of the education I was given prior and I enjoyed that more, to be honest, I didn't like that I felt very uncomfortable in the first season because I was standing around all these experts and I knew nothing about these topics, yet I was kind of asked to speak on them and so I felt like an imposter the entire time." "Limitless: Live Better Now" looks at how you can improve your brain and body's health through endurance challenges and learning a new instrument. Teaming up with Sheeran Hemsworth chose the drums and, taking it to the extreme, was set the task of joining his friend Ed Sheeran on stage to play "Thinking Out Loud". "That fear and that anxiety was incredibly overwhelming," Hemsworth said, detailing how he felt "underwater" in the weeks leading up to the event. "It's weird the way intense situations actually cause a hyper focus; it's a survival mechanism of the brain,". "Some of the other challenges where if I did the training it was beneficial, but I could kind of muscle my way through it. You can't do that with a musical instrument and then the realisation that the entire band is relying on you to keep time. And then 70,000 people are sitting there going, 'please don't wreck our favourite song'." Reflecting on the moment, he says it's one of the most magical feelings he's ever had. "The joy was unlike anything I've ever experienced. You know, if you could bottle that and have it in a healthy way and not have all the negatives that someone may have for it, it was amazing. It was a true kind of one of my first probably proper out of body experiences, I suppose,". "It was like, I kind of remember being in the out, looking down at myself almost, kind of going, wow, I'm kind of floating along with this thing that's so much bigger than me and I'm in true sort of flow state with it."
