Egypt, Australia explore expanding healthcare cooperation, green transformation initiatives
Chairperson of the Egypt Healthcare Authority (EHA), Ahmed El-Sobky, met with Australian Ambassador to Egypt Axel Wabenhorst to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation across various healthcare fields, with a focus on knowledge exchange, medical training, and sustainable health practices.
El-Sobky noted that discussions included the launch of a proposed twinning programme between Sydney Children's Hospital and Ramsey Health Care Group in Australia, and El-Nasr Specialized Children's Hospital in Port Said, as well as other pediatric units within the EHA network. The initiative aims to advance pediatric care services in Egypt by fostering knowledge transfer, joint training programmes, and the adoption of global best practices in subspecialties.
During the meeting, El-Sobky also presented the EHA's strategy for sustainability and green transformation. He highlighted the achievements of Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital and Port Said Specialized Ophthalmology Hospital, which have both received international recognition from the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals (GGHH) network. These accolades underscore Egypt's commitment to embedding environmental sustainability into its healthcare system.
El-Sobky expressed the authority's keen interest in collaborating with Australia on sustainable healthcare initiatives, emphasizing the importance of sharing expertise to support the EHA's green strategy. This direction aligns with Egypt's broader national efforts toward sustainable development and the global shift toward environmentally conscious health systems.
The meeting also covered several proposed areas of cooperation, including medical tourism, joint research on clinical care quality indicators, advanced training programmes for healthcare providers, and exchange visits for medical delegations to Australia. These initiatives are designed to enhance healthcare delivery, boost the performance of medical teams, and further position Egypt as a regional hub for quality healthcare services.
El-Sobky underscored Egypt's potential as a promising market for healthcare investment and extended an invitation to Ambassador Wabenhorst to visit the Suez Medical Complex—one of the flagship facilities of the EHA in the Canal Governorates.
For his part, Ambassador Wabenhorst praised Egypt's significant strides in healthcare, describing them as a 'qualitative leap.' He expressed enthusiasm for deepening collaboration and reaffirmed Australia's commitment to supporting ongoing and future health partnerships with Egypt.

Egypt's Healthcare Authority, Arab Emergency Union discuss strategic cooperation
Head of the Egypt Healthcare Authority (EHA) Ahmed al-Sobky had talks with Advisor Mishaal bin Al-Daihani, Chairman of the Arab Union for Emergency and Disaster Management, to prepare for a cooperation protocol focused on health emergencies and disaster response. The agreement will include joint training, crisis management, and business continuity, with certified programs for EHA staff and participants from other Arab countries. EHA will offer its field hospitals as training sites. The two sides also discussed collaboration in reconstruction, public awareness campaigns, and sharing Egypt's health system experience across the region. Egypt, US partner to launch global pharmaceutical manufacturing, export venture
Egypt has signed a major joint venture agreement with US-based Dawah Pharma to manufacture and export pharmaceutical products and nutritional supplements to global markets, with a strategic focus on North America and Europe. The deal marks a significant milestone in Egypt's push to expand its pharmaceutical exports and attract foreign investment to its health sector. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly witnessed the signing ceremony, which took place in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Public Enterprise Sector Mohamed El-Shimy, Head of the Egyptian Drug Authority Ali El-Ghamrawy, and Hisham Setit, Head of the Unified Procurement Authority for Medical Supplies and Technology. The agreement was signed by Ashraf El-Khouly, Executive Managing Director of the Egyptian Holding Company for Pharmaceuticals—affiliated with the Ministry of Public Enterprise Sector—and Hossam Abdel Maksoud, Chairman of Dawah Pharma. Prime Minister Madbouly said the agreement reflects Egypt's broader strategy to enhance national industries, with the pharmaceutical sector identified as a key priority. He described the partnership as a strong vote of confidence in the quality and potential of Egyptian manufacturing, particularly in the medical field. Minister El-Shimy emphasized that the partnership follows major investments to modernize the holding company's infrastructure, upgrade production lines, and align operations with international Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). He described the venture as a pivotal step in Egypt's plan to boost pharmaceutical exports, strengthen international collaboration, and increase foreign direct investment. Under the agreement, the new joint venture will manufacture and export a wide range of products including ampoules, nutritional supplements, sterile injections, ophthalmic preparations, and over-the-counter (OTC) medications. The first phase will focus on exporting six pre-approved dietary supplements to the US market—an unprecedented move for the Holding Company for Pharmaceuticals, after meeting all relevant international regulatory and quality benchmarks. The venture will leverage state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies for a diverse range of dosage forms including syrups, tablets, ampoules, pre-filled syringes, and transdermal patches. This is expected to accelerate global market entry for Egyptian-made products and support long-term growth for the company and its subsidiaries. El-Shimy affirmed that the new company will comply with the most stringent international regulations, particularly those set by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA), to ensure the competitiveness of Egyptian products in North America, Europe, and emerging markets in Africa and Asia. As per the terms of the agreement, the Egyptian Holding Company for Pharmaceuticals will hold a 40% stake in the joint venture, while Dawah Pharma will own 60%. The partnership will also spearhead efforts to open new international markets for Egyptian pharmaceutical exports, solidifying Egypt's position as a regional hub for high-quality medical manufacturing.
