The 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ Is One Massive EV

"Massive" is a word that gets misused quite often, but it's entirely apropos in the world of the Cadillac Escalade. Step up to the electric Cadillac Escalade IQ, however, and it's more like supermassive black hole, especially if you're cloaked in the shade informally known as Town Car black. That's because the IQ steps things up with a wheelbase that's over 15 inches longer than that of a regular Escalade, plus about an extra foot of overall length. The IQ is wider, too, but it's also slightly lower than a regular Escalade, and it looks even lower than the numbers suggest because its rear end falls away in a graceful arc, not the blunt chopped-off profile of the gas version.
It also weighs approximately 9000 pounds, owing to its all-electric powertrain and a massive (there's that word again) lithium-ion battery with 205.0 kWh of usable energy. That's enough juice to power the Escalade IQ for a claimed 460 miles. Note: This Cadillac is exempt from EPA testing and labeling requirements because its Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) exceeds 10,000 pounds. It has an 800-volt electrical system that can replenish the battery at up to 350 kW, which is sufficient to add 100 miles of range in 10 minutes, according to Cadillac. These figures are similar to those for the GMC Hummer EV pickup, but in our testing the Hummer took 19 minutes to add 100 miles and required a full 109 minutes to charge from a 10 to 90 percent. We will see.
A pair of permanent-magnet motors teams up to produce 750 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque in the raciest mode, Velocity Max. That tops even the Cadillac Escalade-V's supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 and its 682 horsepower and 653 pound-feet of twist, though the IQ's normal output amounts to 680 horses and 615 pound-feet. Press the accelerator and the Escalade IQ responds with verve, if not the neck-snapping response of some EVs. Still, a claimed 4.7-second 60-mph time is nothing to sneeze at for something weighing four-plus tons, especially given that we got the merely 6290-pound Escalade-V to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds. Yes, we said "merely" in referencing the Escalade-V's 6290 pounds. That's the kind of rejiggering necessary to understand the Escalade IQ. It bends reality around itself.
The brakes are strong in the IQ as well. There are three regenerative-brake settings, including off. In this mode the braking feels natural, in that the vehicle rolls with the slight drag you might get from engine braking. When you work the brake pedal to slow down further, the effort is precisely matched to the deceleration you get. There's little sensation of the colossal weight you're controlling—it's just normal. Conversely, step up the regen to the highest level, and you never have to touch the brake at all except for panic-stop situations. Just bleed off speed with the accelerator, and you can soon learn to bring the IQ smoothly to a stop. The middle setting is still good for one pedal operation, too, but if your driving is the least bit aggressive you'll find yourself dabbing the brakes now and again.
The steering is where things get interesting. At first, it feels noncommittal, neither too communicative nor too numb. Twirl the wheel in parking lots and around tight corners, however, and rear-wheel steering of up to 10 degrees comes to the fore, trimming the turning circle to just less than 40 feet, which is seriously impressive for a vehicle with a grand 136.2-inch wheelbase. There's also Arrival mode, which turns the rear wheels in line with the fronts to allow the vehicle to crab sideways. It's fun, but this a mere parlor trick that has few uses in the real world.
Upper and lower control arms with air springs at all four corners support the Escalade IQ, with the air springs able to be lowered up to two inches or raised as much as an inch. Fourth-generation MagneRide magnetorheological dampers do their best to smother impacts, and they carry out this task with supreme efficiency in Tour mode. The IQ's ride felt considerably stiffer in Sport mode on the tight, technical (and lumpy) roads of Northern California, which we somewhat expected given the massive (there's that word again) 24-inch wheels wrapped with 35-inch tires. Still, the big rollers do a credible job of taking it in stride over all but the most punishing pavement.
Inside, the handsome seats are spacious and well trimmed, but we did struggle to get in because of tight toe space on the sidestep, which made us stand a bit tall to duck in. We also would have liked it if the steering wheel telescoped out a bit more, but in the end, we were able to settle in well enough. Setting the outside mirrors was a bit of a trick, because the mirror on the passenger side loses is convex shape, which is required by law for vehicles this heavy. Cadillac's solution: camera mirrors that pop up when you signal a turn. Not bad, but that doesn't help much if you're just taking a peek at traffic. And you'll want to use the rear camera mirror because the sloping roofline impedes rear visibility.
Once inside and settled, the first thing you notice is the colossal 55.0-inch pillar-to-pillar expanse of screen before you. Thankfully, it's a bit predictive, placing things you're bound to need on a smaller central cockpit screen. Normally the home of HVAC controls, this screen switches to power door controls when you have selected Park, and it also can display the regenerative braking controls. It brings up the Arrival mode display when you select that feature too. Further back, the second row is likewise roomy and comfortable. The third row is more of a kids-only affair, which is why some might wait for the 2026 Escalade IQL and its 4.2 inches of additional length, plus a slightly less aerodynamic roofline that adds an inch of third-row headroom.
The 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ is on sale now. It comes in two trims, Sport and Luxury, with Super Cruise, a head-up display, and a 12-cubic-foot front trunk all included. Basically, you get a splash of chrome trim and model-specific wheels with the Luxury for $129,990 or body-color trim and different wheels with the Sport for $130,490. The main upgrade bundle costs $20K for each, resulting in a Luxury 2 model for $149,990 or a Sport 2 for $150,490. This enhancement consists of an upgrade from 11.5 to 19.2 kW for the onboard charger, an integrated trailer brake controller and other towing features, an AKG premium audio system, night vision, 126-color ambient lighting, power seats with massage, power open/close doors, and more.
The 2025 Escalade-V, on the other hand, starts at $164,495. Sure, it's quick and sounds mean, but yikes. Viewed in that light, the 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ's price, while substantial, is one of the few things about it that isn't supermassive.

Todd Inman reflects on what leadership, community and service really mean to him. Inman served as Chair of the Greater Owensboro Chamber board in 2006. He returned Thursday as a proud Western Kentucky University alum and now national figure at the center of transportation safety conversations. 'We would like to be able to prevent disasters from happening rather than investigating them and then making recommendations. I was there on the two Boeing Max crashes occurred. I thought the first was a tragedy. The second was a travesty. So, I wanted to try to make a difference so I could try to help not let that second travesty occur again,' says Inman. Earlier this year, he was the spokesperson for the Potomac River crash investigation. 67 lives were lost when an American Airlines jet and Army Black Hawk helicopter collided. Inman offered transparency and compassion as he addressed the public and family members of crash victims, before helping to implement new safety recommendations regarding helicopter proximity. 'We found that the current configuration around DCA had to high of a level of risk in that planes could get too close. We saw that happen on January 28th…where slight variations outside of parameters were catastrophic. We need to build in additional buffers…You hope something else captures it. In this case, nothing caught it. You saw devastation. It's been 19 years since we've seen something like that. We'll get better. We'll learn from it,' says Inman. Rooster Booster also honored the newest Leadership Owensboro graduates. Future leaders heard from someone who was once in their shoes. 'Calvert City, Kentucky… 3000 people, two stoplights ,a national spokesperson. I came because they asked. I think they're proud, but I also want them to know it could be them at any point,' says Inman. Inman now lives in Arlington, Virginia. He says the streets he walked in Owensboro were the beginnings of his pursuit of purpose. 'I don't know a single person who lives in out building in Arlington, Virginia, I don't know their name, but here you're getting hugs. You're talking about children. You have ties [and] bonds. 2026 Cadillac Optiq Review: Expert Insights, Pricing, and Trims

Cadillac's entry-level EV is a surprisingly good compact luxury SUV. Now entering its second model year, the 2026 Cadillac Optiq shares a platform with the mainstream Chevrolet Equinox EV. A higher-performance Optiq-V joins the lineup for the new model year, which promises to be a pint-sized rocket. What's New We don't expect significant changes on the 2026 Cadillac Optiq in its second year on the market except for one powerful addition: the new Optiq-V. This performance variant is expected to receive similar upgrades to the Lyriq-V, albeit in a smaller package. The Lyriq-V gets a 115-hp bump, bringing output to 615 hp, so we anticipate the Optiq will also gain a considerable amount of power. We suspect the small SUV's output could climb by at least 150 hp, which would result in around 450 hp and a 0–60 mph time of just over four seconds. In keeping with Cadillac's V pedigree, the Optiq-V will receive other performance enhancements. Upgrades could include: Standard Brembo front brake calipers Continuous dampening control A quicker steering ratio Software-driven driving modes for additional performance A lower ride height Larger wheels and model-specific badging should round out the package. This page will be updated with more insights and photos as information becomes available. What We Think Cadillac has historically struggled to make its smaller models feel luxurious. In the 1980s there was the badge-engineered Cimarron, and more recently the compact XT4 SUV has struggled to convey an aspirational identity. With the all-electric 2026 Cadillac Optiq, things are different. The Optiq is genuinely luxurious, appropriately dressing up GM's Ultium platform with a stunning exterior design and a well-appointed cabin. The goodness extends beyond the Optiq's aesthetics—in our First Drive review, we note its confident handling and quick acceleration. Those seeking even more exhilarating launches should hold out for the new-for-2026 Optiq V, which receives a host of performance upgrades. The Optiq's 'passive-plus dampers' provide a sporty and firm ride, filtering out sudden impacts with a dual-valve setup. The Optiq's ride is planted, yet comfortable. Equipped with a host of standard tech and active driver assistance features, the Optiq is a good value within the small electric luxury SUV segment. Weaknesses include range and charging speed that fall short of the Tesla Model Y. Additionally, the lack of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto might put off some buyers. These shortcomings are minor for an otherwise well-rounded luxury SUV. Even before the 2026 Optiq-V arrived, it was clear that this small EV is worthy of the Cadillac crest. Top-Ranked Competitors: Performance Below the high-performance V model, all 2026 Cadillac Optiq SUVs come standard with dual-motor all-wheel drive, with a permanent-magnet synchronous motor in front and an induction motor in the rear. System output totals 300 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque. When we test the Optiq, we expect the 0-60 mph sprint to take about 5.1 seconds. As for the 2026 Optiq-V, with its various performance upgrades, expect a sportier overall experience as well as a 0–60 time of around 4 seconds. EV Range and Charging The 2026 Cadillac Optiq's battery has 85 kWh of usable energy, good for 302 miles of driving range. A maximum charging rate of 150 kW isn't exceptional, and means the Optiq can't take advantage of the faster rates supplied by newer Level 3 stations. Cadillac says the Optiq can add 79 miles of range in approximately 10 minutes. For comparison, the 2026 Genesis GV70 Electric charges at a maximum of 250 kW, although its range is only rated at 236 miles. The 2026 Tesla Model Y should also be rechargeable at rates up to 250 kW and is good for 303–327 miles in dual-motor guise. On a Level 2 home charger, the 2026 Optiq's charging speed is much more competitive, with decent standard speed of 11.5 kw, and up to 19.5 kW available. Safety Ratings and Features Although we don't yet have Cadillac Optiq safety ratings as of this writing, the Chevrolet Equinox EV on the same platform gets a five-star overall rating from NHTSA. If driver assistance tech is a priority, the 2026 Cadillac Optiq is a solid pick. Its standard safety suite is robust and even includes the excellent Super Cruise hands-free driving feature. Standard features include: Forward collision alert with automatic emergency Reverse automatic braking with rear cross traffic monitoring Driver attention monitoring Super Cruise hands-free driving with a complimentary three-year subscription A 360-degree camera system Cargo Space and Interior Room Inside, the 2026 Cadillac Optiq feels spacious and second row legroom is better than that of the Genesis GV70. However, the Tesla Model Y benefits from a frunk offering an additional 4.1 cubic feet of storage volume, a more spacious second row, and better overall cargo capacity. Technology Infotainment Cadillac is expected to outfit every 2026 Optiq with a high-resolution 33.0-inch digital dashboard that can literally project over a billion colors. Although Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not available, the Optiq comes standard with the Google built-in suite. Google Maps, the Google Play Store, and Google Assistant are installed on all models. The Optiq also has over-the-air update functionality. There are USB-C ports in the front lower console and USB-C ports in the second row. Sound System Some automakers charge extra for a premium sound system, but the 2026 Cadillac Optiq's standard setup is impressive. All models receive a 19-speaker AKG audio setup with Dolby Atmos. Value Standard Features Lower Cadillac Optiq trims roll on 20-inch wheels with Black Raven as the only paint color that doesn't cost extra. Noir and Cool Gray seating are the two default interior schemes. Cadillac makes most tech standard on the Optiq. A large 33-inch display serves as the digital instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen. Power-adjustable heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and driver memory settings are also base-model equipment. Recommended Trim Cadillac is expected to offer the 2026 Optiq in four non-performance trims and as the hotter V model. Pricing starts in the mid-$50,000 range and we expect the following trims to carry over: Luxury 1, Luxury 2, Sport 1, and Sport 2. We suggest spending about $2,000 extra for the Luxury 2 trim. This model has upgraded headlights with LED front cornering lamps, a head-up display, heated and ventilated front seats, massaging front seats, heated outboard second-row seats, and model-specific interior lighting.

One-Off $270K Cadillac EldoRODo Lowrider Resurfaces in $55K Auction Sale

The 1999 Cadillac EldoRODo show car is unlike anything the American carmaker has ever made. The car was never designed as a concept, or a precursor of a future model, but a highly customized one-off show car commissioned by General Motors. The unique and special Caddy is a wonderful blend of luxury and street culture, and there's only one in the world. After General Motors auctioned off the car for $60,000 during GM's bankruptcy proceedings following the 2008 financial crisis, it spent years in storage, and changed hands several times including a brief stint with Tyler Hoover, host of Hoovie's Garage YouTube channel, who bought it for just $12,000 in November 2023. The market is finally realizing what a unicorn the car really is, as it recently sold at auction via Bring a Trailer for $55,000 back in April. So what makes the car so special? At a time when Cadillac was known for large luxury sedans, coupes, and SUVs, the EldoRODo was commissioned at a rumored $270,000 to show a different side of Cadillac - a tip of the hat to, and a celebration of, unique Californian car culture, specifically Southern California's custom low-rider scene. So it was fitting that all the work was done by Chuck Lombardo of the world-famous California Street Rods in Huntington Beach. Chuck sadly passed away in 2023. It was a statement, not a production car, and Cadillac said at the time that it effectively captures the spirit of the classic hot rod, while blending it with contemporary luxury and performance. From there the "ROD" in "EldoRODo", while retaining the traditional Eldorado values. Upon its completion, the car frequented the show circuit and was on display at the Los Angeles and Detroit auto shows and on many a magazine cover. The custom low-rider esthetic comes from the chopped roof line, the more steeply raked front and rear screens, and the very low ride height achieved by dropping the front suspension and fitting adjustable rear air suspension. It is further reinforced by extended rear wheel skirts and design cues that emphasize the slammed look, including slim, slit-like headlights and a narrow grille. In fact, the car sits a full four inches lower to the ground than its Eldorado Touring Coupe donor car. The striking Ignite Orange paintwork is offset by mirror-finished chrome wheels in a flat platter style with hidden, internal valves. They measure 18 inches - much larger than anything you'd find on a stock Eldorado at the time - and are wrapped in tires with such a low profile, they almost seem painted on the rims. Finishing off the esthetic is the shaved look, with all exterior trim pieces removed, rendering a pebble-smooth outer surface devoid of clutter, and even without any side mirrors. Those were replaced with discreet little side cameras. The handle-less doors are opened by remote poppers. Because this is not a concept or mockup, the EldoRODo is a fully functional and driving car, sitting on the bones of an existing mass-production model - the 12th-generation (1992-2002) Eldorado, specifically the Eldorado Touring Coupe. The Neutral Shale (beige to you and me) interior is nearly completely stock, save for carbon-fiber trim in place of the regular ETC's wood. While the air suspension is totally reworked, the platform and powertrain are the same as the production car, which is to say it shares its naturally aspirated 4.6-liter Northstar V8 engine with 300 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. As was the custom with the Seville and Eldorado models at the time, the powerplant is installed transversely under the hood and drives the front wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. Performance figures would have closely approximated those of the production ETC as well, which is to say a 0-60 sprint in just over seven seconds. Not that any owner will subject this one-off beauty to such harsh treatment, though, and this is borne out by the fact that the car had only 8,500 miles on the clock at the time it was sold in April. If you think $55k sounds like a bit of a bargain for a one-off unicorn like this, we remind you that you won't be able to do much with your EldoRODo, were you to own it. As part of its bankruptcy proceedings, GM sold the car off with a junk title in a legal maneuver to avoid any future liability. It will, therefore, be difficult, if not impossible, to get it road-registered, depending on where in the US you live. And those side mirror cameras will probably not be road legal either, anyway. It's unlikely that we'll see anything quite like the EldoRODo again. It was an extravagant, cost-no-object custom modification to make a statement, without previewing any new technology or upcoming Cadillac models. It was meant to show that Cadillac still had a connection with the expressive spirit of Southern Californian custom car culture. With the local automotive industry now under pressure from tariffs and the big EV push, such a pet project would be too extravagant to get past committee. It likely means there will never be anything like this chopped, slammed, and shaven Caddy again.
