MCMC Removed Over 32,000 Online Scam Content In 1Q 2025 -Teo
Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching expressed concern over this trend, as the content taken down in the first four months of 2025 was almost half the total removed throughout 2024, which stood at 63,652 items.
"From January to April alone, the content taken down reached 32,436. This means in just four months, we've dealt with almost half the volume of what we took down last year. These figures are deeply worrying."
'According to data from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the financial losses inflicted by online scams have reached RM799 million, almost RM800 million.
'A significant portion of these scams involved fictitious investments, therefore, we urgently need to intensify our efforts to educate the public," said Teo at a press conference following the launch of the "Nadi Aspirasi Nasional bersama Anak Muda" (NANBA) programme in Taman Mewah, here today.
Also present at the event were Community Communications Department (J-KOM) deputy director-general (community communications) Suwadi Guliling and the Senai assemblyman Wong Bor Yang.
Teo highlighted that the MCMC had initiated the Safe Internet Campaign (KIS) and had begun implementing cyber awareness programmes in schools across the nation.
To date, nine schools have participated in the KIS programme, including two in Kulai, namely SJKC Kulai Besar and SK Felda Bukit Permai.
"Our aim is to extend this programme to secondary schools and public universities. We also urge schools and educational institutions to collaborate with us in supporting online safety education initiatives,' she said.

According to the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform), this was the total amount of complaints received from 2020 till 2024. 'But, the government is bound not to disclose any specific information, including case examples involving whistleblowers, to ensure that the principle of protecting confidentiality can be fully maintained, as enshrined by the law. 'The government is committed to ensuring that enforcement agencies have successfully conducted investigations and taken follow-up actions based on the information provided by the whistleblowers, without having to disclose their identities or personal information,' she said in a written Parliamentary reply dated Aug 20. Azalina was responding to Dr Abd Ghani Ahmad (PN-Jerlun) who asked about the effectiveness of the Act in protecting whistleblowers. Azalina said all enforcement agencies conducting investigations under Act 711 must take all necessary steps to ensure confidentiality of information. 'Each investigation must be carried out according to strict procedures,' she said. 'In terms of implementation, confidentiality of whistleblowers must be carefully protected and only relevant officers can know their identities,' she added. Amendments to the Act were passed in the Dewan Rakyat on July 23. The new Section 11 (1)(a) introduced in the amendments that allow enforcement agencies to maintain protection for whistleblowers who were involved in misconduct or acted to avoid disciplinary action.

Adam Radlan acquitted of graft charges
Settled: Adam Radlan (centre) at the Kuala Lumpur Courts Complex. — Bernama KUALA LUMPUR: The Segambut Bersatu deputy chief was let off with a RM4.1mil compound by the anti-graft agency this week before the court acquitted him from 12 charges linked to the Jana Wibawa project. Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad is now free from the charges of corruption and money laundering following the payment of the compound issued by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Monday. Sessions Court judge Suzana Hussin made the order of acquittal yesterday after the court was informed that the MACC has agreed to accept Adam Radlan's representation and payment has been made. Deputy public prosecutor Farah Yasmin Salleh said the MACC agreed to offer the compound under Section 92(1) the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities (Amla) Act 2001 based on the representation sent by him to the MACC. Following this, the prosecution sought a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) in line with Section 254(3) of the Criminal Procedure Code to be granted to the accused. Adam Radlan's lawyer Datuk Seri Rajan Navaratnam, however, argued that his client should be given an acquittal on grounds that the compound has been paid. On Feb 21, 2023, Adam Radlan was charged with one count of soliciting a cash bribe of between 3.5% and 7% of a RM47.8mil road construction project from Mat Jusoh Mamat, the managing director of MIE Infrastructure & Energy Sdn Bhd. He was also charged with another count of accepting a bribe of RM500,000 from the same individual as an inducement to help the company secure the same project, which spanned from Jalan Sungai Adam to Kampung Banat in Perlis, from the government through direct negotiations. In February 2024, Adam Radlan was charged with two counts of receiving RM4.1mil in bribes from Lian Tan Chuan and Mat Jusoh for helping Nepturis Sdn Bhd and MIE Infrastructure & Energy obtain two similar Jana Wibawa projects and one count of soliciting RM2mil from Lian as an inducement to help Nepturis secure another project related to Jana Wibawa. The charges were framed under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009 and punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a fine of not less than five times the amount of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction. Adam Radlan also faces seven money laundering charges amounting to more than RM3mil under Section 4(1)(b) Amla.

250 bikes to rev up celebrations across Negri
SEREMBAN: A total of 250 high-powered motorcycles will participate in the Kembara Merdeka Akar Umbi 2.0 at the Negri Sembilan level, accompanied by state leadership and department heads, to welcome this year's National Month. State senior exco Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias said the journey will pass through seven districts starting in Jempol and ending at Dataran Budaya Seri Menanti, Kuala Pilah, with a culmination event on the eve of National Day, which will also be enlivened by a fireworks display. He said the journey will be escorted by 50 cars involving a journey of more than 300km and at each stop, various activities will also be held, including donations to the needy. 'We will gather around 8am in Jempol before moving towards Jelebu, then down to Seremban, Port Dickson, Rembau, Tampin and ending in Seri Menanti, Kuala Pilah,' he said, Bernama reported. The Jelebu MP also said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is also expected to join the journey in Port Dickson. He said traffic police will assist in controlling flow in several hotspots along the route. 'We expect more than 8,000 visitors to flood Seri Menanti to join in the excitement on the eve of the Merdeka celebration, as well as to strengthen goodwill with each other,' he said. Meanwhile, a total of 14 main roads in Putrajaya will be closed from 6am to noon between Aug 26 and 29 for rehearsals ahead of the 68th National Day celebrations.
