Glasgow man left flustered after seagull nicked fish supper

Glasgow Times13-07-2025
Brad Monaghan, from Springburn in Glasgow, made a seven-hour round-trip to try out a fish supper from the famous Anstruther Fish Bar on Scotland's east coast.
The 32-year-old took two buses to get to the coastal town for their speciality haddock and chips.

However, just as the hungry factory worker sat down to tuck into and take a picture of his scran, it was nicked and devoured by a seagull and its pals.
After getting a replacement meal, Brad realised he had unwittingly caught a picture of the seagull in the act of robbing his dinner.
Brad told the Daily Record: "The Fish Bar has been pretty big on social media and my pal really wanted to go, so we travelled three-and-a-half hours from Glasgow to get there.
'We don't drive, so we had to get two buses. We had to get the bus to St Andrews, then another to Anstruther.
"I'd just sat down with my fish and chips. I'd only had one chip, then I thought 'I'll take a photo and send it to my partner'.
'I sat it on my lap and just as I went to take the photo, the seagull was there.
'It all happened in an instant.
"Before I knew it, the supper was on the floor and there were about 10 seagulls around about it. It was gone in minutes. At this point, I didn't know I had the photo. I was a bit flustered in the panic and put my phone away.'

After that, the Glaswegian headed back into the food joint to order another meal, where he planned to tuck into it in a safer spot.
While reordering, Brad told the staff about the brazen seagulls which decided to pinch his dinner.
'I went to buy another one but they said 'don't worry, we'll give you it for nothing'", Brad added.
'After I ate the second supper, I checked my camera roll and couldn't believe my eyes. My pal was in stitches. He was buckled.
'I don't know how I managed to get such a perfect photo.'
The foodie added: 'It was a long way but worth it, right enough. It was the best fish supper I've had and the staff were brilliant.'
Anstruther Fish Bar kitchen manager Laura Armit said: 'I was there bringing in the tables and chairs, and it lifted it clean out of his hand.
'I've worked here a long time, and I've never seen them taking something straight out of your hand. I think he was just super unlucky, so I got him a replacement supper.'

Solo traveller details surprising aspects of Ibiza nightlife and safety tips for women

A woman from the UK has shared her experience travelling to Ibiza alone and was surprised to find out what it was like to head to the clubs and strip on her own A British woman who embarked on a solo trip to Ibiza has shared her experiences of hitting the mega-clubs and strip alone, revealing one surprising detail. ‌ Penny Uro spent four days and three nights at Hotel Vibra Algarb in Playa d'en Bossa, just two miles from Ibiza Town. She decided to travel independently, wanting to "let her hair down" after facing some personal challenges. ‌ The 41-year-old single parent took to Instagram to share her insights with her 24,000 followers in a video titled: "Things I learned as a solo traveller to Ibiza". ‌ The Daily Star reports she advises single women to pack earplugs, opt for comfortable footwear in nightclubs, make friends with other solo travellers, and explore beachside eateries together. The globe-trotting enthusiast first gave her verdict on the clubs. Penny said: "Go to the Old Town, Ibiza has so much more than bars and clubs. "Ushuaïa Ibiza had the best atmosphere by far. Pacha and Hï Ibiza were packed, think tinned sardines. Drinks were prohibitively expensive - €18 for water, €30 for vodka and Coke." Speaking to What's The Jam later, she revealed the world-class nightlife was the 'sole' reason she chose to visit Ibiza. Despite most people travelling to Ibiza in large groups, Penny didn't want to miss out on letting her hair down and decided to go alone. Although initially attracted to the Spanish island for its nightlife and clubs, she found the beach clubs were where she had the most fun. ‌ However, Penny - who practises as a solicitor in the Midlands - confessed she was taken aback by the widespread drug scene on the island. While strolling along the strip, Penny remarked: "Every other person who walked past me was as high as a kite, but no one was intimidating, and everyone was just there having a good time. ‌ "Alcohol in clubs is extremely expensive, so I can see why people turn to other things. "While walking from the club to my hotel at 1am, about a 10-minute walk, I was approached eight times by different men trying to sell me drugs, which I found quite surprising." ‌ Beyond that, the only other drawback was feeling like a 'sardine' in the 'packed' clubs where Penny felt like she couldn't move much, let alone dance. Her video has garnered more than 26,000 views and countless comments on her 'Penny Goes Travelling' Instagram account. Back in June, Penny journeyed to Egypt and admitted she "couldn't wait to leave" the country. ‌ Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Despite having visited Egypt multiple times before, she described the "hassling for money and scamming culture so exhausting" during her latest trip. She was allegedly bothered by Uber drivers, tour guides, street vendors, and airport staff - even whilst travelling with four men and a child. ‌ The globe-trotter described her hotel experience as "shocking", citing relentless harassment for tips and catcalling. She further commented: "Even though I was travelling with four men, it seems that doesn't put the locals off. I used to get hassled a lot, but I was never put in a place of fear. "But this time, I experienced physical force, aggression, and people actively following me into private areas like the ladies' toilets. "If you don't mind being ogled at, cat called, constantly asked for money in return for nothing, and if you enjoy your personal space being invaded, then Egypt is perfect. "Otherwise, get back on the plane."

Great style quality fit & price. Cool fabric for the warm weather. Everything I've come to expect from Next." Someone else praised: "Lovely bright holiday dress. Very comfortable, instantly feel dressed when you put it on. Can be worn off the shoulder. Washes well. True to size." Not everyone was as keen as the rest, as one two-star review read: "Didn't sit right on my shoulders. Fabric felt quite hard also." However, there were more positive reviews, as another fashion fan said: "Lovely colorful dress for holiday. Size was spot on and the price wasn't to bad either."

Angelina Jolie plans to move abroad as she prepares to leave Hollywood

Angelina Jolie's next career move has been revealed as she prepares to be the latest A-lister to flee Hollywood. The Maria actress, 50, is reuniting with the Mr. and Mrs. Smith director Doug Liman for another spy thriller. She is starring in the upcoming film titled The Initiative with Liman directing and F. Scott Frazier writing the script, per The Hollywood Reporter. She last worked with the director on the set of the 2005 action-comedy, where she met her ex-husband Brad Pitt. Jolie will portray a rogue master spy named Bright in the movie, which has been described as 'Training Day set in the world spycraft.' The story follows Bright as a new agent named Charlie joins her team and finds himself in concerning situations — 'where he isn't sure whether his new boss is trying to kill him or simply is willing to do whatever is necessary to protect the free world.' News of Jolie's next career move comes after she starred in last year's Maria Callas biopic Maria after appearing in 2021's Eternals and leading the two Maleficent films. The Oscar winner had studios vying for the project as they anticipated her highly sought-after return to the action thrillers that made her a box office darling following her roles in Salt, Wanted and The Tourist. Universal won the multi-studio competition for the upcoming project, and now, the studio is gearing up to start filming in early 2026. This comes amid news that Jolie is reportedly looking to sell her historic Los Angeles home and move abroad as the latest A-lister to pack up to leave Hollywood behind. She is reportedly 'eyeing several locations abroad,' according to People. The mom-of-six wants to 'put the house up for sale' and move when her youngest kids, twins Knox and Vivienne, turn 18 next year. She shares the twins as well as Maddox, 24, Pax, 21, Zahara, 20, and Shiloh, 19, with ex-husband Brad, 61. The Oscar winner 'never wanted to live in L.A. full time' but she 'didn't have a choice because of the custody arrangement with Brad,' a source told the publication. The exes reached a settlement in their ugly divorce in December 2024 after an eight-year legal battle. 'She'll be very happy when she's able to leave Los Angeles,' the insider added. has reached out to Jolie's representatives for comment. The insider went on to say that Jolie's estate is 'a historic masterpiece.' The actress is reportedly looking to make some minor improvements before putting the home on the market. The historic estate, once owned by iconic Hollywood director Cecil B. DeMille, was purchased by Angelina in 2017 for a cool $24.5 million. It boasts six bedrooms, ten bathrooms, and comes complete with stunning architecture, world-class gardens, an on-site library and much more. As well as huge gardens with a swimming pool, the property is surrounded with lush greenery and retro chic arched fountains. A tea house looks out onto the swimming pool, and there's also a fitness room in the pool house. She bought the home just eight-months after her split from Pitt. The property's rich Hollywood history began in 1916 when it was purchased by DeMille (pictured center) for less than $28,000. He went on to expand the estate by buying the neighboring home, which had been owned by screen legend Charlie Chaplin, and merging the two properties. Jolie previously opened up about her desire to leave Los Angeles in 2024, but said she had to remain in California until her and Pitt's six children all turn 18. 'I grew up in this town [Los Angeles]. I am here because I have to be here from a divorce, but as soon as they're 18, I'll be able to leave,' she told The Hollywood Reporter. She continued: 'When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety. I have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be … that humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here.' After her youngest two children become legal adults, Jolie said she plans on spending 'a lot of time in Cambodia' and visiting her 'family members wherever they may be in the world.' Jolie will join a number of other Hollywood stars who've left Los Angeles in recent years, including Natalie Portman, Mark Wahlberg, Eva Longoria, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, Sophie Turner as well as Rosie O'Donnell among others. Earlier this month it was reported that Jolie is having a tough time with daughter Shiloh's next chapter , as the 19-year-old has flown the nest with her rumored love interest, dancer Keoni Rose. Sources told the Daily Mail that Shiloh, who recently dropped her famous dad's last name amid their estrangement, has 'temporarily moved in' with Keoni for the summer. Exclusive photos obtained by the Daily Mail confirmed the move, showing the rumored couple hugging outside their shared Los Angeles condo. The reported move also comes after cops arrested a trespasser in Jolie's Los Angeles neighborhood. In July law enforcement detained an individual who entered the Los Feliz enclave by slipping through a gate. It happened shortly after Jolie's ex-husband Pitt's home was broken into while he was in Tokyo. The actor's neighbors have suggested security at the mansion may have been compromised in the days leading up to the dramatic break-in. Pitt and Jolie's romance began in the early 2000s, and they tied the knot in 2014 at their château in the South of France.
