Concerns for backpacker, 25, missing for five days in Far East

Concerns are growing for a backpacker who has gone missing on a solo tour of South East Asia. Jordan Johnson-Doyle, 25, is in Malaysia but has not been heard from since Tuesday, May 27.
Family and friends spent days frantically trying to get in touch with him by phone, email and social media before his phone went dead on Friday, May 30.
Jordan's mum Leanne Burnett, of Southport, said: "I have been been feeling just sick, numb. I just want to get over there, find him and bring him home. I want him to know we're looking for him and we're coming to get him," reports the Liverpool ECHO.
She added: "I have no idea what has happened. All I know is something is really wrong for him not to contact anybody. I know what he's like and he knows how worried everyone gets at home, that's why he checks in all the time."
She said: "If he was to lose his phone and laptop, if someone had stolen that off him, he knows my number by heart and he would contact. He would go to the nearest hotel to use the phone, or go to an internet café. He'd find a way to get hold of us."
The 25-year-old's last known location was the Healy Mac's Irish Bar in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, at around 8pm on Tuesday, May 27, when he sent his best friend Owen a photograph of the pub's quiz night poster. He is also believed to have visited The Social, a bar near Healy Mac's.
On Wednesday morning BST (seven hours behind Malaysia), Leanne said she checked the "Find My iPhone" tracking service for the location of her son's mobile phone, and saw it was located at a residential flat block near the bar.
Leanne said: "I speak to Jordan every day and I have him on find my iPhone, so I always have a look before I go to bed and when I wake in the morning. But when I woke up on the Wednesday morning, his Find My iPhone had not updated. It just said 'last seen 11 hours ago'.
"It means it's either out of signal or out of range. And this was the last place it had a signal. It was a block of flats in that same area, literally down the road from the bar."
She added: "I carried on tracking him throughout the day, trying to phone him as well. I couldn't get hold of him on Facebook or Instagram. If he does lose his phone, he usually messages me on Facebook or Instagram.
"But it just kept on showing at this location, and the 'time last seen' kept going up and up, and now the phone has gone off completely. It's run out of battery."
Jordan's last known message, sent to his best friend Owen at around 8pm on Tuesday, May 27
Jordan's phone went dead on Friday, May 30, three days after he was last seen. Leanne said: "I'm a really worried mum because he's working away. So he knows if I can't contact him, he will contact me.
"I did get a bit anxious and started checking Find My iPhone a bit more and checking Instagram, but just nothing. I didn't hear from him on Tuesday and by Wednesday I couldn't get his location.
"Then his phone went off, and that's when I contacted his best friend Owen, and he said he hadn't heard from him since Tuesday and was getting worried himself. I called the police straight away."
Jordan, a software engineer, had been backpacking around the Mediterranean and South East Asia for around a year and a half while working remotely for an American company.
He arrived in Malaysia on May 17 after previously visiting Vietnam, and is believed to have been staying at the Robertson Residences at Bukit, Kuala Lumpur.
And Leanne, 44, said she last spoke to him on Monday, May 26, and their conversation had been the usual chit-chat about their working days. She said: "He seemed absolutely fine and normal.
"Nothing stood out whatsoever. We always end the phone call with 'love long time' and that was the very last thing we said to each other."
Leanne has reported Jordan missing to Merseyside Police and contacted the British Consulate and police in Malaysia. She said the family had also tried to contact the hotel where Jordan is believed to have been staying, but struggled due to the language barrier.
His workplace has also been informed.
Leanne said: "It has been awful. But all his friends and family have been rallying round. We've pieced together the last pictures and memes he's been sanding, we've got his messages, so we're building up a timeline of his movements.
"His dad is travelling out there today, and me, his brother, best friends and his stepdad are going out tomorrow."
She begged members of the public to share her son's missing persons appeal far and wide. She said: "Jordan was really shy in high school, but since he has got his job and turned into a man he's become really outgoing, so funny, very intelligent.
"He's got a massive work ethic and is very loving. He looks after his brother. His brother looks up to him so much and he's loved by everyone, all his friends and family.
"We're very worried. My friends and family are constantly here. We've got a group set up.
"I've got family posting all over Facebook and whatever Malaysian sites we can find. We've got others contacting our MP. We're just doing everything we can.
"Please share anything. If anybody has seen him, please share it far and wide. If anyone has heard from him, seen him, seen him active on social media - anything. We just need to find him and bring him home."
* Merseyside Police has been approached for comment. Leanne said the police incident reference for anyone reporting a sighting to Merseyside Police was 5198 as of May 30, 2025. Leanne's full appeal and contact details are here.

Parks and Recreation star dies after being fatally shot 'by neighbour'

King of the Hill star Jonathan Joss, who is the voice actor of John Redcorn on the show, tragically died after being shot by a neighbour King of the Hill voice actor Jonathan Joss has died after being shot by a neighbour in Texas. The San Antonio Police Department and onlookers claimed the 59-year-old Parks and Recreation actor got into an argument with his neighbour on the city's south side over the weekend before he was shot. A man called Sigfredo Alvarez-Cega was arrested and charged with murder, with a bond set at $200K, as reported by TMZ. The authorities told the publication that the neighbour pulled out a gun during the argument and shot Joss several times before fleeing in a car, with the police arresting him a block away from the residence. Alvarez-Cega was then taken into custody. Paramedics were called to the scene but couldn't save Joss. As shared in a police report, Joss passed away from 'injuries sustained after multiple gun shots'. The Mirror have reached out to the San Antonio Police Department for comment. Following the release of the news, fans rushed to social media to pay tribute to Joss. One said: "This is absolutely devastating news. Jonathan Joss was such a talented actor, and his iconic roles brought so much joy to so many. What a tragic loss." Another said: "It absolutely shatters my heart to learn of the passing of Jonathan Joss, known and loved by many fans as the voice, heart, spirit, and soul of the character John Redcorn. He made a point to be involved in the fandom, and was so kind to all of us. He will never be forgotten!" Joss' husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, released a statement on the actor's official Facebook page claiming the argument began when the couple were checking the mail "at the site of our former home". "When the man fired, Jonathan pushed me out of the way," he said. "He saved my life. Jonathan is my husband. "He gave me more love in our time together than most people ever get. We were newlyweds. "We picked Valentine's Day. We were in the process of looking for a trailer and planning our future," Gonzales posted before adding he was with Joss when he passed and 'told him how much he was loved.' "To everyone who supported him, his fans, his friends, know that he valued you deeply. He saw you as family. My focus now is on protecting Jonathan's legacy and honoring the life we built together," he added. Joss was the voice of John Redcorn on King of the Hill from series two to 13 and even recorded lines for the revival of the animated series. He was also known as Chief Ken Hotate in Parks and Recreation.

Woman vanishes from £1m family home to attend court case in secret Hemalatha Jayaprakash, 44, told her husband she was going to view offices Hemalatha Jayaprakash suddenly vanished just before her and her family were due to go on holiday (Image: Nick Wilkinson/Birmingham Live ) A mum told her husband she was going to view offices for her new job but she was travelling to court after defrauding her former boss if £166k. Hemalatha Jayaprakash and her family had been packing for a holiday to India to visit loved ones when she fled the £1m home in Great Barr, Birmingham. The 44-year-old mum of two appeared in the dock at Birmingham Crown Court for several days, having pleaded guilty to fraud and abuse of position. ‌ Meanwhile, her husband and two children knew nothing about her crime, and it appears she was desperately hoping that by entering a guilty plea, she may avoid a custodial sentence without them ever finding out. ‌ However, on Wednesday, May 21, she was jailed for two years and three months. Her worried family began searching frantically for her, visiting hospitals in case she had been in a car crash. Talking to Mail Online, Mr Jayaprakash said he even reported his wife as a missing person. He described her actions as "beyond belief." He recalled: "We were doing our packing, I was aware my wife had applied for another job and she said she had got it." When he later discovered a Facebook post where her ex boss detailed the imprisonment and sentence he spoke of his shock. He added: "We have not been struggling financially." Don't miss a court report by signing up to our crime newsletter here . Article continues below Mr Jayaprakash told the MailOnline: "We had absolutely no idea. My wife didn't need the money and we are trying to find out what really happened, and maybe she was coerced by someone. We don't have any money issues. " Birmingham Crown Court heard how his wife ran a rental property empire and £1 million house. However, in her role as a city centre-based Northwood estate agents for 12 years she made dozens of illegal transfers from business and client accounts to herself, Birmingham Live reports. Hemalatha Jayaprakash was sentenced to two years and three months in jail (Image: BirminghamLive/BPM ) ‌ During the time, she was working as a personal assistant to the director. Jayaprakash claimed in court she used some of the money to pay her child's school fees and to help relatives in India who lost their homes to flooding. The managing director, Nin Rehal, said her actions had been devastating, having learned she even took money while he was out of the office caring for his dying mother. When Mr Rehal sold the business in December 2023, a £26,000 discrepancy was discovered and the accounts were examined. It emerged that payments had been made to non-existent landlords to a bank account, which was revealed as Jayaprakash's account thanks to an expenses claim. Mr Rehal said it had caused him 'immense' distress and 'devastating' financial losses. ‌ The director said the loses meant he had to release equity from his family home to make ends meet, alongside supporting his two children at university. He added: "Meanwhile, Mrs Jayaprakash resides in a £1m property, purchased outright in 2018, and benefits from income generated by a portfolio of at least eight rental properties." Overall, Jayaprakash had taken £167,062.68 over the course of 158 transactions from January 2021 and March 2024, reports BirminghamLive. Court recorder Amy Jackson said: "Everything I have read about this lady takes me to the belief she is from an affluent background where she ought not to need to steal to fund a lifestyle and effectively does lead a lavish lifestyle. This was pure greed." During sentencing, the judge said: "This was a long-running and significant fraud and abuse of trust." From their sprawling family property which is named Gleneagles after the luxury Scottish spa retreat, Mr Jayaprakash told Mail Online he had checked with family in India and they had not received any money and said his grown up daughter did attend a fee paying school but he had paid for. Article continues below Samreen Akhtar, defending told the court: "Her family members are regrettably unaware (of her conviction). She has had no support in terms of these proceedings." Jayaprakash will serve up to 40 per cent of the 27-month term in custody. She was heard wailing as she was sent down to her cell. A Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) hearing to determine confiscation, costs and compensation will take place on August 26.
