Texas sheriff discovers a dozen migrants hidden inside hay bales during traffic stop of apparent human smuggler
A Texas sheriff deputy discovered a dozen illegal migrants crammed together inside hay bales in an alleged human smuggling scheme during a routine traffic stop Tuesday.
The deputy pulled over a white Ford F-250 pickup towing several massive bales of hay on a trailer driving along IH-10 near Flatonia just before 1 p.m., according to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office.
When the officer got a closer look at the round hay bales, he was shocked to find 12 people hidden inside.
The smugglers had 'meticulously altered and hollowed out' the bales to create cramped compartments where they could sneak people into to hide from the authorities, Sheriff Keith Korenek said.

The bales concealed a metal framework contraption fitted with small compartments where the illegal immigrants were hidden, according to Korenek.
'Inside those compartments, deputies discovered multiple undocumented individuals being smuggled in dangerously confined spaces,' the sheriff's office statement read. 'This method of concealment is not only deceptive but incredibly dangerous to human life.'

The driver of the F-250, identified by police as Delbert Flanders, 44, of Kansas, was arrested on state and federal smuggling charges and taken to a local hospital for unspecified medical treatment, Korenek said.
What type of medical treatment was not released by a spokesman for the sheriff's office.
Police also arrested two suspects who they identified as the 'coordinators of the operation.'

Houston resident Adanaylo Lambert, 22, and Lency Delgado Fernandez, 25, were both charged with state and federal smuggling charges as well.
'Smugglers continue to use increasingly creative and hazardous techniques to transport individuals across Texas highways,' Korenek said in a statement.
The 12 undocumented people crammed into the counterfeit bales were turned over to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement for processing, according to the sheriff's statement.
Officers with the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Flatonia Police Department and Fayette County Sheriff's Office deputies also were part of the arrest, according to Korneck.

Sunken ship found during search for missing fishing vessel off Cape Cod
Crews searching off Cape Cod for a missing fishing vessel two days overdue have located a sunken vessel. A boater contacted Brewster Fire and Rescue just before 2:00 p.m. to report a sunken ship around two miles north of the Brewster shoreline, Brewster police chief Heath Eldredge said. GPS Unit for Missing Fishing Boat Found as Authorities Continue Search for the Vessel and Its Passengers

On Tuesday, June 10, U.S. Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England said via Facebook that the boat, F/V Seahorse, 'was known to be fishing in the vicinity of Target Ship Wreck near Eastham in the Cape Cod Bay.' 'A cell phone ping last placed the vessel two miles offshore Chatham,' the agency added. The ship's captain has been identified as Shawn Arsenault. The Coast Guard also described the 30-foot vessel as white with 'a mermaid on the bow and 'SEAHORSE' painted on the stern in rough lettering.' In a news release shared on Tuesday, the Orleans Police Department, who are assisting in the search, said the boat departed Orleans, Mass., on Sunday, June 8, and had since not returned. As reported by ABC affiliate WCVB, the boat carried Arsenault, 64, and his girlfriend, Felicia Daley, 54. The couple was reportedly planning to go clamming. PEOPLE reached out to the Coast Guard on Wednesday, June 11, for additional information. In an email to CBS affiliate WBZ, Coast Guard Lt. Quinn LeCain said Arsenault was reportedly seen throwing electronic equipment overboard. 'We can't confirm what exactly was thrown overboard. There was a Facebook comment saying that it was his old GPS," LeCain said. Coast Guard Cmdr. Cliff Graham similarly stated, per WCVB. "It was reported he was throwing something overboard. I can't confirm what kind of equipment or what it was specifically." Meanwhile, Sam Miller said she and her dad found a GPS unit with 'F/V Seahorse' on it at a beach Sunday morning, WBZ reported. "Just hoping they find him quickly," Miller told the outlet. "I noticed in the surf there was something floating, so I went down to see what it was, and it turned out to be, we could tell it was a GPS unit off of a boat." Miller's family left a note on Arsenault's truck, and then contacted the harbormaster when they noticed the truck had not moved the following day, per WCVB. Third man arrested after Mud Island shooting
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police arrested another man on Tuesday after two men were arrested last week in connection with the Mud Island shooting. Hunter Maness, 33, was charged with Accessory after the Fact to wit: Criminal Attempt to wit: First Degree Murder, Accessory after the Fact to wit: Employment of a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony, Accessory after the Fact to wit: Theft of Property to wit Motor Vehicle $2,500-$10,000, and Accessory after the Fact to wit: Criminal Attempt to wit: Carjacking. Maness is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday. On June 2 at 12:45 p.m., officers responded to a shooting at Island Place East and Island Village Drive. Police said the suspects were three men in a red Chevrolet Silverado. They said that the suspects cut the victim off and attempted to steal his 2020 Ford F-150 before they shot him and fled. When the male victim was shot, he tried to get away from the suspects but ended up crashing into a mailbox. That crash caught the attention of a witness, who helped the victim stay awake until paramedics arrived. Arrests made in connection to Mud Island shooting Two other witnesses heard the gunshot, and one of them had video footage that captured the suspects' truck. The male victim was taken to Regional One in critical condition. At last check, he is expected to survive. Violent Crime Investigators arrived at the scene and gathered evidence. They determined that the suspect vehicle was stolen from the 1500 block of Monroe earlier that morning. On June 3, 2025, at 1:30 p.m., officers responded to a suspicious vehicle in the 100 block of East Holmes Road. The red Chevrolet Silverado was recovered and towed to the city lot. On June 5, 2025, DeSoto County investigators reached out and provided information on this case. VCU was advised that when DeSoto County assisted MPD with the arrests of Christopher Skelton, 29, and Justin Furnish, 42, for unrelated charges on June 2, 2025, the red truck was at the scene.
