Third man arrested after Mud Island shooting
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police arrested another man on Tuesday after two men were arrested last week in connection with the Mud Island shooting.
Hunter Maness, 33, was charged with Accessory after the Fact to wit: Criminal Attempt to wit: First Degree Murder, Accessory after the Fact to wit: Employment of a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony, Accessory after the Fact to wit: Theft of Property to wit Motor Vehicle $2,500-$10,000, and Accessory after the Fact to wit: Criminal Attempt to wit: Carjacking.
Maness is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
On June 2 at 12:45 p.m., officers responded to a shooting at Island Place East and Island Village Drive.
Police said the suspects were three men in a red Chevrolet Silverado. They said that the suspects cut the victim off and attempted to steal his 2020 Ford F-150 before they shot him and fled.
When the male victim was shot, he tried to get away from the suspects but ended up crashing into a mailbox.
That crash caught the attention of a witness, who helped the victim stay awake until paramedics arrived.
Arrests made in connection to Mud Island shooting
Two other witnesses heard the gunshot, and one of them had video footage that captured the suspects' truck.
The male victim was taken to Regional One in critical condition. At last check, he is expected to survive.
Violent Crime Investigators arrived at the scene and gathered evidence. They determined that the suspect vehicle was stolen from the 1500 block of Monroe earlier that morning.
On June 3, 2025, at 1:30 p.m., officers responded to a suspicious vehicle in the 100 block of East Holmes Road. The red Chevrolet Silverado was recovered and towed to the city lot.
On June 5, 2025, DeSoto County investigators reached out and provided information on this case.
VCU was advised that when DeSoto County assisted MPD with the arrests of Christopher Skelton, 29, and Justin Furnish, 42, for unrelated charges on June 2, 2025, the red truck was at the scene.
On June 6, Skelton and Furnish were charged with the following crimes:
Christopher Skelton: Theft of property of a motor vehicle $2,500-$10,000, attempted carjacking, attempted first-degree murder and two counts of employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony
Justin Furnish: Theft of property of a motor vehicle $2,500-$10,000, attempted carjacking, attempted first-degree murder and two counts of employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony

String of store thefts led to chase in South Memphis; two in custody
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two suspects are in custody, and two more are on the run Thursday, after a string of convenience store thefts across the city led to a chase that ended in South Memphis. He fled the scene in a burgundy or maroon Nissan sedan. At 5:56 am, officers responded to a Robbery call which resulted in becoming a Theft from a building at 1691 Poplar Avenue at Mapco. Two men in dark clothing came into the business and stole cash and cigarettes. They fled the scene in a burgundy or maroon Nissan sedan. At 9:47 am, officers responded to robbery at 2120 Frayser Blvd at Mapco. Four men in all black clothing entered the store. One of the men were armed with a gun. They stole cigarettes and fled the scene in a burgundy or maroon Nissan. At 10:26 am, officers responded to a business robbery at 1505 East Brooks Road. Three men in black clothing entered the business. They took cash and cigarettes and fled in a burgundy or maroon Nissan. At 10:31 am, officers responded to a business robbery at 2454 Elvis Presley Blvd. Three men in black clothing entered the business. Milwaukee man suspected in Sheboygan Falls double shooting arrested after police chase
SHEBOYGAN FALLS – A 24-year-old Milwaukee man suspected to be involved in a double shooting and a police chase June 11 is being held at the Sheboygan County Detention Center. Sheboygan Falls Police Department reported the suspect went to a home in the 400 block of Giddings Avenue in Sheboygan Falls armed with a handgun and confronted a 39-year-old man whom he knew. The suspect fired several rounds, striking the 39-year-old man and a 67-year-old man. The 39-year-old fired shots at the 24-year-old, but he was not injured. Sheboygan Falls police and fire personnel responded to the incident around 4:15 p.m. June 11. Both victims were transported by medical helicopter with life-threatening injuries but are expected to survive. He was believed to be driving a stolen 2021 gray Jeep Grand Cherokee toward Milwaukee, according to the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office. Around 4:23 p.m. June 11, the Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office notified the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office the suspect was driving south. The Ozaukee office and Saukville police attempted to pull the suspect over on Interstate 43 near State 33 in Saukville around 4:49 p.m. Instead, the suspect accelerated, and the sheriff's office pursued the vehicle south into Milwaukee County. Wisconsin State Patrol successfully deployed tire deflation devices near Good Hope Road, causing the suspect's vehicle to lose control and strike a Ford F-150. The vehicle came to a stop south of Silver Spring Road. According to the release, the suspect tried to flee on foot while the vehicle was still moving. He was apprehended and taken into custody by Sheboygan Falls police.
