Israeli airline's Paris offices daubed with red paint, slogans - War on Gaza

Al-Ahram Weekly4 days ago
Red paint and slogans were daubed at the entry to the offices of the national Israeli airline El Al in Paris.
Pro-Palestinian slogans and inscriptions, including "Free Palestine" and "El Al Genocide Airline", were written on the entrance, which was also daubed with red paint as well as the pavement overnight Wednesday to Thursday.
According to El Al, quoted by Israeli TV channel N12, "the incident occurred while the building was empty and there was no danger to the company's employees."
In early June, several Jewish sites in Paris were sprayed with green paint. Three Serbs were charged and placed under arrest and are suspected by investigators of acting to serve the interests of a foreign power, possibly Russia.
"I condemn the barbaric and violent act against El Al and expect the law enforcement authorities in France to locate the criminals and take strong action against them," Israel's Transport Minister Miri Regev wrote on X.
She said the act was the result of announcements by President Emmanuel Macron that "make gifts to" the Palestinian group Hamas, in apparent reference to his announcement last month that France plans to recognise a Palestinian state.
The Israeli war on Gaza has killed at least 61,158 people in Gaza, mostly women and children.

Egypt's FM Meets Global Peace Delegation on Gaza Crisis

H-Tayea Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatti met on Sunday with a delegation from The Elders, the global peace advocacy group founded by the late Nelson Mandela. The delegation included Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland, and Helen Clark, former Prime Minister of New Zealand. The discussions centered on the deteriorating situation in Gaza and the worsening humanitarian catastrophe caused by more than a year and a half of relentless Israeli aggression. Abdelatti condemned the use of starvation as a weapon and Israel's attempts to entrench its illegal occupation, describing the actions as a campaign of genocide that undermines the Palestinian people's fundamental right to self-determination, in flagrant violation of international law and humanitarian principles. The minister reaffirmed Egypt's total rejection of any plans to forcibly displace Palestinians or undermine the Palestinian cause. He detailed Egypt's ongoing mediation efforts to secure a ceasefire and announced Cairo's intention to host an international conference on early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza once an agreement is reached. Abdelatti also stressed the urgent need to expand global recognition of the State of Palestine and implement the two-state solution, stating that there can be no security or stability in the region without the establishment of an independent Palestinian state that meets the legitimate aspirations of its people. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani

Iran says deputy head of UN nuclear watchdog to visit Monday - Region

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Sunday the deputy head of the United Nations nuclear watchdog will arrive in Tehran the following day. The visit will be the first by a senior official from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) since Iran suspended cooperation with the body last month in the wake of the 12-day war with Israel. "Our talks with the Agency tomorrow will focus on a new cooperation framework... Until we reach an agreement on a new framework, cooperation will not begin," Araghchi told reporters. He said there were "no inspections or visits" of nuclear sites planned for the official. In mid-June, Israel launched an unprecedented attack targeting Iranian nuclear and military sites, but also hitting residential areas over the course of the war. US forces joined with attacks on nuclear facilities at Fordo, Isfahan and Natanz. Last month, Iran officially suspended its cooperation with the IAEA citing the agency's failure to condemn Israeli and US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. Israel's attack derailed nuclear talks between Iran and the United States which had begun in April. The talks had been the highest-level contact between Tehran and Washington since the United States abandoned in 2018 a landmark agreement on Iran's nuclear activities. Since the 12-day war, Iran has demanded guarantees against military action before resuming any negotiations with the US. Araghchi recently said Iran has "received messages" from the US side on the resumption of talks, and on Sunday, he said that "nothing has been finalised" on that matter. On July 25, Iranian diplomats met with counterparts from Germany, Britain, and France who have threatened to trigger sanctions against Tehran by the end of August if it fails to reach a deal on its nuclear programme. The so-called "snapback mechanism" would reinstate UN sanctions under a moribund 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers. The option expires in October and Tehran has warned of consequences should it be activated. "Our contact with the Europeans is ongoing," said Araghchi on Sunday, adding that a date for the next round of talks has yet to be set. Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:

4 Killed in Armed Attack on Police Station in Iran

Israa Farhan Four people were killed on Sunday in southeastern Iran during an attempted armed assault on a police station in Sistan-Baluchestan Province, a region long plagued by insurgent violence and cross-border militancy. According to local security reports, one police officer from the city of Saravan lost his life when armed militants tried to storm the police facility. Three attackers were killed in the ensuing clash, while two others were captured alive by security forces. Authorities have identified the assailants as members of the Baloch militant group Jaish al-Adl, which is based in Pakistan and operates in southeastern Iran. The province lies about 1,200 kilometers southeast of Tehran and shares extensive borders with both Pakistan and Afghanistan. Sistan-Baluchestan has been the scene of frequent armed confrontations between Iranian security forces, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and insurgents from the Baloch minority, as well as other militant factions and drug trafficking networks. The attack follows a series of violent incidents in the region. On 26 July, gunmen stormed a courthouse in the provincial capital Zahedan, killing at least six people in an assault later claimed by Jaish al-Adl. In October last year, one of the deadliest attacks in the province's recent history left ten police officers dead in what authorities also described as a terrorist operation. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani
