'Crispy' towels will be fluffy again by doing one thing after they dry
The majority of people want a soft and fluffy towel to dry themselves with after bathing or showering. But that can usually only be achieved by putting them in the tumble dryer and letting it work it's magic.
However, that is a costly way to dry laundry and especially for towels which are a heavy load. It's estimated that drying clothes in the appliance will cost about ten times more than it does to wash them, according to Get Energy Savvy!
And with energy prices still high and the country still in the grip of a cost of living crisis, using the tumble dryer, if you have one, will be a last resort when washing can be hung on a line or airer to dry for free.
But what do you do about crispy towels?
One householder posted this exact dilemma on Facebook group Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips.
She said: "Flannels and towels all gone crispy. (I don't have a tumble dryer). Dried outside. Advice please to get them soft again."
And while some suggested using fabric softener while washing them, others said this was a bad idea.
One said: "Never use fabric softener on towels. They lose their absorbency. I have some towels with a label that says not to use softener."
And another agreed saying: "Which? magazine says never use fabric conditioner on towels. It destroys them."
Instead several commenters suggested ironing the dry towels on steam setting to bring them back to their soft state.
One said: 'Iron them," with another agreeing adding: "Steam iron them."
Another poster explained: "When mine do this I run the steam iron over one side and it solves it."

And another agreed saying: 'Iron makes them softer."
Some people were less keen on the method as it would add to their pile with one commenting: "Who does this? I am a fanatic about having my clothes ironed and not wrinkled and there was a time I ironed pillowcases but not anymore, but towels?
"Please that is going a little too far."
But over on mumsnet on a similar thread the advice was the same with one saying: "Iron them with lots of steam.....sorry. I know ironing towels sounds like madness, but if you don't tumble them and you want them soft...it's the only way."
Another way to get them soft and keep them absorbent is to add white vinegar to the rinse cycle of the wash.
And they won't smell. One poster on the Facebook thread stated: "Use white vinegar instead of fabric softener," with another adding: "White vinegar in rinse and give them a good shake when finished."
Some people were happy with their crispy towels though. And if you like them like that you're not alone.
One said: "I must be in the minority as I like my towels to have a bit of 'bite' to them," with another poster admitting: "Same here I don't think soft ones dry you properly."

Scots households in 32 areas told to gather 'emergency kit' with 3 things now
The Met Office are urging those in areas to be affected by thunderstorms to prepare for flooding Householders living in several areas of the country have been advised to gather an emergency kit as the Met Office warns of a thundery end to the summer heat and even a 'danger to life'. The national forecaster said the heat and humidity of the last couple of days is predicted to cause storms up and down the country. And they recommend three items to have at hand as the weather changes. A yellow warning for thunderstorms is in place until 10pm tonight (Thursday August 14) with swathes of the country in scope. The warning stretches from the Borders to the Orkney Islands and Shetland. It means people can expect difficult driving conditions, possible power cuts and public transport disruption. And buildings could also be damaged by sudden flooding which is why households are being told to prepare for that eventuality, reports the Mirror. The yellow weather warning is the second this week. The first activated at 2pm yesterday (August 13) until midnight. A second came into force just after midnight today (August 13) and continues until 10pm tonight. With potential flooding as well as power cuts possible, there is a threat that fast flowing water could cut off some communities. The conditions pose a "danger to life" in the worst affected areas. The Met Office has issued advice telling people living in the 38 affected areas to consider preparing a "flood plan and an emergency flood kit". The agency shared three vital items in the kit include torches, batteries, and a mobile phone power pack. The advice states: "Consider if your location is at risk of flash flooding. If so, consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit. "People cope better with power cuts when they have prepared for them in advance. It's easy to do; consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items." People should consider the advice if they live in the following affected areas: Central, Tayside & Fife Angus Clackmannanshire Dundee Falkirk Fife Perth and Kinross Stirling Grampian Aberdeen Aberdeenshire Moray Highlands & Eilean Siar Na h-Eileanan Siar Highland Orkney & Shetland Orkney Islands Shetland Islands SW Scotland, Lothian Borders Dumfries and Galloway East Lothian Edinburgh Midlothian Council Scottish Borders West Lothian Strathclyde Argyll and Bute East Ayrshire East Dunbartonshire East Renfrewshire Glasgow Inverclyde North Ayrshire North Lanarkshire Renfrewshire South Ayrshire South Lanarkshire West Dunbartonshire Northern Ireland is also under the warning. While the warnings conclude on Thursday night, the Met Office's long-range forecast, which covers August 18 to 27, warns that "heavy and thundery" showers could roll across the country again next week. It comes after a period of unsettled weather which saw Storm Floris last week (Monday 4 August). There were amber warnings in place for much of Scotland and the winds peaked at 85mph. Thousands of homes across the country were left without power as electricity suppliers battled to reconnect householders.

What temperature is too hot to walk your dog? The experts at Kennel Club share a guide on their website that details exactly which temperatures are ideal for your dog to exercise and which are too hot for your pup to be outside. Temperatures below 12C are described as perfect walking weather when your dog will be comfortable and ready to explore. If the mercury is ranging between 12-19C, conditions are safe for most dogs, but keep an eye out for signs of overheating if they're running around a lot. When the weather is 20-23C, however, owners should start to take precautions. Stick to shaded areas, keep walks short, and bring water. And 24-26C is risky territory. The experts recommend only taking your dog out if it's absolutely necessary, and making it a quick, shady stroll. And finally, if the mercury is 27C or above, it's simply too dangerous to walk your dog. Stay indoors or let them relax in a cool, shaded area instead. Life-threatening warning signs that your dog is overheating The first sign that your dog is overheating is excessive panting. If this occurs, take action immediately to cool down your pet. Once overheating has developed, your dog may also: Become restless and show discomfort Vomit or have diarrhoea Drool excessively Have an increased heart rate Lose coordination, have seizures or muscle tremors How to keep your dog cool during walks To protect your pup from heatstroke when out on a walk, the Kennel Club shares some additional advice.
