Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary to chair Central apprenticeship council meeting tomorrow

New Delhi [India], May 25 (ANI): The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) will convene the 38th Meeting of the Central Apprenticeship Council (CAC) tomorrow at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
The Council, reconstituted in October 2024 under the chairmanship of Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge), MSDE, plays a pivotal role in advising the Government on key policies related to apprenticeship training across the country, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship said in an official statement on Sunday.
The last CAC meeting was held in June 2021. Since then, India's apprenticeship landscape has evolved considerably--with over 43.47 lakh apprentices engaged across 36 States and Union Territories, with active participation from more than 51,000 establishments, enhanced outreach across districts and social groups, and renewed alignment with futuristic sectors through the PM-NAPS and NATS schemes,as per the ministry.
The 38th CAC will deliberate on critical reforms including: Digital and virtual mode apprenticeship delivery; Integration of Degree Apprenticeships through rule amendments, including the introduction of new definitions to formally regulate Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Programmes (AEDP);Provisions for global deployment of apprentices at client sites; Enhanced stipend rates linked to inflation;Measures to support women, PwDs, and apprentices from NER;Institutional strengthening including setting up of new regional boards.
The Council comprises representatives from Central Ministries, State Governments, industry (public and private), academia, labour bodies, and technical experts. Notable members include Chairpersons of BHEL, Indian Oil, Tata Group, Maruti Suzuki, Reliance Industries, NSDC, UGC, AICTE, and senior bureaucrats from Ministries such as Education, Labour, MSME, Railways, and Textiles. State apprenticeship advisors from ten key states and domain experts with experience in education, labour, and industry also serve on the Council.
Ahead of the meeting, Chaudhary, Chairman of CAC stated: 'The future of apprenticeships lies at the intersection of education, technology, and opportunity. As we prepare India's youth for a dynamic and inclusive economy, this Council meeting will serve as a catalyst to unlock greater flexibility, global linkages, and institutional coherence in our apprenticeship framework. It is an important step in our journey toward a 'Kushal Bharat, Viksit Bharat'.'
The meeting will begin at 10:30 AM at Vigyan Bhawan, with a keynote address by the Minister, followed by discussions on proposed reforms and policy enhancements. Outcomes from the Council are expected to significantly shape India's skilling priorities in the years ahead.
Earlier this week, MSDE launched a strategic Apprenticeship Scheme Pilot for the North Eastern Region (NER) in Aizawl, Mizoram, in the presence of Jayant Chaudhary and Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma.
The initiative aims to boost apprenticeship adoption across all eight NER states by providing an additional Rs 1,500/month stipend to over 26,000 youth, above the standard NAPS benefit. Backed by a dedicated outlay of Rs 43.94 crore, including funds for awareness and capacity building, the scheme is being implemented by Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) Guwahati and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). It marks a significant step toward mainstreaming skilling opportunities in underserved geographies, promoting mobility, inclusion, and industry-readiness among youth in the region. (ANI)

I urge everyone to plant trees in their own homes.' Tripura joined the global movement with renewed commitment to environmental preservation. Known for its lush greenery and natural beauty, the state marked the day with an appeal to its citizens to protect and sustain its rich ecological heritage. In a message to the people, a call was made to maintain Tripura's identity as a 'green land' and to further advance its environmental goals. Emphasising the need to reduce pollution, residents were urged to stop using plastic and adopt eco-friendly habits. The message also encouraged every household to contribute to the green mission by planting trees at home, reinforcing that collective action begins at the individual level. To mark the occasion, various awareness drives, plantation programs, and community participation activities were held across the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi planted a Sindoor sapling at his 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, his official residence. The sapling was presented to him by a group of women who had displayed exceptional courage during the 1971 war. Over 300 women had gathered at the Indian Air Force airstrip in Bhuj to rebuild the airstrip during the 1971 Indo-Pak. PM Modi highlighted the importance of preserving the balance of nature. On Thursday, PM Modi shared a video message on X, urging people to deepen their efforts to protect the planet and overcome environmental challenges. In the caption of the video, PM Modi wrote,'This #WorldEnvironmentDay, let's deepen our efforts towards protecting our planet and overcoming the challenges we face. I also compliment all those working at the grassroots to make our environment greener and better.' In the video message, PM Modi said, 'Prakriti Rakshati Rakshita', those who protect nature, nature protects them.' The Prime Minister highlighted India's ancient tradition of environmental balance, 'Balance in the environment has always been a part of our ancient tradition. It is said in our culture, 'Yat pinde tat brahmande', meaning, what exists in the body also exists in the universe. Whatever we do for ourselves directly impacts our environment.' PM Modi stressed that individual actions directly impact the environment and called for collective action to protect the world's climate. 'To protect the world's climate, it is essential that every country rises above self-interest and thinks collectively,' the video stated. (ANI)

Economist S. Mahendra Dev appointed EAC-PM chairman

Economist S. Mahendra Dev has been appointed the new chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM), a person informed about the development said. Dev, till Thursday an independent director with Axis Bank, will take charge of the position on Friday, said the person, who spoke on condition of not being named. Earlier in the day, Axis Bank informed stock exchanges that Dev had resigned from its board owing to his appointment as chairman of the EAC-PM, which is a full-time position. EAC-PM did not have a full-time chairman since last November, when its first chairman Bibek Debroy passed away. NITI Aayog vice chairman Suman Bery has been holding the additional charge of EAC-PM since then. The new appointment comes at a time the Narendra Modi government is busy dealing with the tariff war triggered by the US administration and its global macroeconomic implications, while also striving to step up and sustain economic growth rate in order to realize the government's goal of making India a developed country by 2047. Besides advising the Prime Minister on economic and related issues, EAC-PM analyses key issues requiring the attention of policy makers at the highest level. Business Standard reported on Thursday that Dev's appointment is for a period of two years, and that new part-time members of the council include Soumya Kanti Ghosh, K.V. Raju, Chetan Ghate, Pami Dua, Pulak Ghosh and Gourav Vallabh. Mint could not independently verify this. Dev had previously served on several government panels and in the working groups for ninth, tenth and eleventh Five Year Plans. He had also served as the chairman of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices. He received his Ph.D. from the Delhi School of Economics and did his post-doctoral research at the Yale University.

Partners for a 225 MW solar power project Rama Steel Tubes announced a strategic investment in the renewable energy space through its participation as a Joint Venture (JV) partner in a 225 MW solar power project under the Government of India's ambitious PM-KUSUM scheme. The project, structured under Onix IPP, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), is spread across multiple locations in Maharashtra. It has successfully signed Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) at a fixed tariff of Rs 3.10 per unit for a 25-year term.
