Master plan in works for development of Durga temple
Ramanarayana Reddy along with the Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath conducted a review with the Durga temple administration officials on Monday. The minister along with MP discussed the proposed development works. He said the Master Plan works include construction of ghat road connecting Kummaripalem Centre to the temple, modernisation of queue lines, creation of vehicle parking facilities, establishment of Prasadam counters, Annadanam halls and tonsure centres, construction of waiting halls, restrooms and installation of escalators, and lifts for the convenience of devotees.
He said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is regularly reviewing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and giving suggestions for the development of the temple. He informed that a review meeting is scheduled for June 28 in the presence of Vijayawada West MLA Sujana Chowdary to finalise the master plan. .
MP Kesineni Sivanath said the development works are being planned to serve devotees for the next 50 years. He said facilities for the devotees are very important in the master plan.
He highlighted that efforts will be taken to enhance the spiritual ambiance around the temple while also focusing on environmental conservation. Durga temple executive engineers Koteswara Rao and Rambabu, director of Siddhartha College B Panduranga Rao, retired engineer Narayana Murthy and other officials were present.

Water Resources Department to explore feasibility of turning Buckingham Canal into a functional waterway
The Water Resources Department (WRD) will soon begin preliminary work on a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to assess the feasibility of operating a water metro and developing the National Waterway-4 (NW-4) in Chennai. The project will cover the stretch of Buckingham Canal between Ennore and Marakkanam. As an initial step towards restoring the canal and improving its navigability, the WRD will take up restoration of a five-km stretch of the Central Buckingham Canal from Chepauk to Greenways Road (DGS Dinakaran Salai). The ₹31-crore project will be part of the larger plan, said the officials. The WRD will prepare the DPR with the financial assistance and consultation of Inland Waterways Authority of India, the nodal agency under the Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways. The NW-4 aims to connect Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry. Officials said that while there was a technical feasibility to turn the canal into a waterway, there were several challenges, including sewage pollution, encroachments, narrow stretches, and cost. The canal should be dredged for a minimum depth of 3 m in several parts for the smooth movement of vessels. For instance, the original bed level of the Buckingham Canal is nearly 2 m below mean sea level. But, the Central Buckingham Canal has accumulated sludge up to 1 m above mean sea level, which has impeded free flow of water and affected its flood handling capacity, he said. The WRD plans to dredge the Central Buckingham Canal and increase its carrying capacity by 700 cusecs, protect the banks, and create recreational spaces at a few places. However, the project will be implemented without the need to remove encroachments. More such measures are needed to achieve the larger goal of canal restoration, the official said. 'We need a minimum width of 15 m to make it a functional waterway. However, the average width varies between 50 m and 150 m in the South and North Buckingham Canal. Building a retaining wall along Central Buckingham Canal may provide a minimum of 3 m space on both sides,' an official said. About 5,000 encroachments and a minimum of 15 sewage outfalls have been identified in the Buckingham Canal within city limits. 'We are also considering the possibility of creating shutters/tidal gates near estuaries to control flow of tidal water and maintain a particular water level in the canal,' the official added. The detailed project report would cover aspects, including ways to ensure navigability while accounting for the MRTS pillars and changing width and measures to tackle pollution in the canal.

Over 37,000 farmers enrolled for natural farming in AP: Centre
Vijayawada: Union Minister of state for agriculture and farmers welfare Ramnath Thakur said Central government is actively promoting natural farming across the country through the National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF). He said over 14.32 lakh farmers have registered under the mission, covering 5.45 lakh hectares of agricultural land nationwide. Responding to a question raised in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday by MPs Kesineni Sivanath and Daggubati Prasad Rao, the Union minister of state provided a written reply detailing the progress of the mission. He said in Andhra Pradesh 37,387 farmers have registered their names under NMNF, with natural farming being practised on 5,699.2 hectares. The state has received an allocation of Rs.1,099.20 crore of which Rs.549.60 crore has already been released. The Union minister further stated that the state has also established 2,522 Natural Farming Clusters, and conducted 52 Farmer Field School (FFS) training programs to equip farmers with sustainable farming techniques. Additionally, 112 Local Natural Farming Institutions (LNFIs) in Andhra Pradesh have been selected as Model Knowledge Dissemination Centres, all operated by experienced and skilled farmers. However, the Minister clarified that no Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in the state has been selected as a model center under this initiative. The minister said the core objectives of the National Mission on Natural Farming include increasing awareness about natural farming practices, reducing chemical usage in agriculture, promoting environmental sustainability, lowering input costs for farmers and improving soil health and fertility.

Pune Metro sees 24% boost in ridership in July
The Pune Metro has seen a 24% increase in average daily rides in the month of July, as compared to the average daily rides of the previous 10 months. From September 2024 to June 2025 the metro had 1,54,652 average daily rides. This number jumped up to 1,92,204 average daily rides in the month of July. Signs of increase were seen in the month of June itself, with the month recording 1,74,702 average daily rides. From September 2024 to May 2025, average daily rides on the two metro lines ranged from 1.44 lakh to 1.60 lakh. June was the first time the average daily rides breached the 1.7 lakh mark and in July, the figure further shot up to over 1.92 lakh. The Aqua Line (Vanaz-Ramwadi) had the larger share of passengers at over 1.08 lakh average daily rides in June, while the Purple Line (PCMC-Swargate) had 83,459 average daily rides. Dr Hemant Sonawane, Executive Director (Administration & Public Relations) at Maha Metro, said, 'Full 33 kms are operational now and we are increasing multimodal integration as well. Due to the monsoon season, people are using their two wheelers less and opting to use the metro. A culmination of these factors might have led to the increase in ridership.' Sonawane also assured that the train frequency will be increased to six minutes from the current seven minutes during peak hours within the next three to four months. This reduction will be the first step towards increasing the frequency to five minutes in the future. Even with the increased ridership, the Pune Metro is nowhere close to the daily rides estimated in the system's Detailed Project Report.
