James Cameron wants to make an animated project.
Cameron directed both films in the live-action Avatar franchise, 2009's Avatar and 2022's Avatar: The Way of Water, thus far. The third movie, Avatar: Fire and Ash, is also directed by Cameron and arrives in United States theaters this coming December.
What did James Cameron say about an animated Avatar project?
Speaking with Empire Magazine, Cameron confirmed that he's spoken to Disney, which owns 20th Century Studios, about potentially doing an Avatar animated project.
He explained, 'I said, 'Look, I want to do an animated anthology series that's essentially in the world, but stories that you wouldn't have expected from that world.' There might even be an animated feature in there – it might be a feature for streaming, or a theatrical feature. A good early example is The Animatrix, where they went afield in the Matrix world. These are all great examples for how we can add texture and baroque detail to the world of Avatar.'
Cameron further noted that these animated stories could explore 'backstory on characters and tangential stuff that happened off-camera within the movies. Who first landed on Pandora? The first expedition. You could go anywhere you want.'
The project, however, hasn't yet materialized into anything.
'We haven't done much with that yet,' Cameron said. 'We're still gathering our stories and that sort of thing, and I've got to find the boutique filmmakers, the animators, that want to do it.'
In the meantime, Avatar: Fire and Ash arrives on December 19, 2025. It stars Sam Worthington as Jake Sully, Zoe Saldaña as Neytiri, Sigourney Weaver as Kiri, Stephen Lang as Colonel Miles Quaritch, Giovanni Ribisi as Parker Selfridge, Kate Winslet as Ronal, Cliff Curtis as Tonowari, Joel David Moore as Dr. Norm Spellman, Edi Falco as General Frances Ardmore, and more.

James Van Der Beek was candid with kids over cancer battle

James Van Der Beek was "as honest as possible" with his children about his cancer diagnosis because he didn't want to "confuse" them. The former Dawson's Creek star - who has Olivia, 14, Joshua, 13, Annabel, 11, Emilia, nine, Gwendolyn, six, and Jeremiah, two, with wife Kimberly - was diagnosed with stage 3 colo-rectal cancer last year and didn't want to hide the news from his broos because "they know" when he's not doing well. Speaking on Today, he said: 'I'm far from an expert, but our approach was just to be as honest as possible, as honest to the degree of their understanding, right? Because they know. "They can sense that Dad's having a tough day. "They know if Dad's in pain. They know, and so by not telling them, I think you're confusing them even more." James has found "a lot of beauty" in his health struggles because of the way his kids have responded. He said: "I have kids making me tea. 'Dad, what do you need?' There's been a lot of beauty that's come out of it, but I would love to save everybody this journey, which is why I'm saying get screened." The 48-year-old actor advised other parents in a similar situation to share the news with their children as they will be surprised by the resilience of youngsters. He said: "When you tell them what you're doing, and you tell them the approach, they can see it and they can feel it, and I think it's also your journey is their journey." At the moment, James is "feeling great" but views battling the disease as a "full-time job". He said: "Today, I'm feeling great, yeah. It's been a journey. There are just so many ups and downs and so many unknowns. Cancer is – I call it a full-time job." James has made a number of changes to his life, including practicing yoga and trying the keto diet and has learned to slow down. He told "[I've been finding] the beauty of just taking things a little bit more slowly and prioritizing rest and really allowing that to be the job," he tells And he is happy he has continued to work, with a role in upcoming TV series Elle. He said: "The greatest thing about work is a cancer doesn't exist between action and cut. "It was fun to drop in and just have a blast because it's such a great cast, a great production, and everybody out there is really talented."

The Social Network 2 To Cast The Bear & Anora Actors as Sequel Leads

The Social Network 2, directed by Aaron Sorkin, is eyeing lead stars from The Bear and Anora. Two award-winning actors are currently in discussions to join the sequel, emerging as Sorkin's top choices to headline the next chapter in the Facebook saga. The Social Network 2 likely to add Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White According to Deadline, Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White have not received formal offers, but both are being eyed by Aaron Sorkin, who is currently assembling the cast and budget before submitting them to the studio for approval. Reportedly, they have also met with Sorkin. He is eyeing Madison, who won the 2024 Best Actress Oscar for Anora, to play Frances Haugen, the Facebook whistleblower. White, a two-time Emmy winner for The Bear, is reportedly in line to play Jeff Horwitz, the former Wall Street Journal reporter who led The Facebook Files exposé. The sequel is based on Horwitz's 2021 investigative series detailing Facebook's internal research into the harms caused by its platform. The film is not a direct sequel to the 2010 David Fincher-directed original but instead a new chapter focusing on Facebook's impact in the 2020s. While the original film chronicled the creation of the social network, this installment explores Facebook's knowledge of misinformation, harm to youth, and its alleged role in the January 6 Capitol attack. Sorkin began developing the script following those events, citing them as a turning point for the project. Sony Pictures is distributing the film, with production led by Sorkin, Stuart Besser, Peter Rice, and Todd Black. The studio has declined to comment on casting or development status. Casting for the role of Mark Zuckerberg remains undetermined, and it is unclear whether Jesse Eisenberg will return. Madison is expected to film The Masque of the Red Death for A24 in 2026. White will next appear as Bruce Springsteen in Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, set for release on October 24.
